I started my research into this tonight, and guess what I found for all you peeps with carby setups ! DIY Ignition only ECU Not really worth the effort making one from scratch considering someone else has done it already, at a really affordable price. These kits do what I was wondering may be necessary - Vaccum / TPS VS RPM for the timing control. MegaJolt Lite Jr. - Complete kit (MAP sensor option) $89.00 MegaJolt Lite Jr. - Assembled (MAP Sensor) $161.00 I really don't know much about there product, and shouldn't be recommending it to people without using it myself, but If your a die hard carby fan, this may make all your dreams come true.

There's a twin turbo lexus V8 GT4 celica on toymods, so lets face it anything is possible. Go for it Mulkers, if your first post on the club lies anywhere within the realms of reality I can't wait to see the final product.

You'll have to call around for that one. Expect $200-400 for a head reco, acid bath, etc. If you want it ported and flow benched I've got contacts in Bris, I can hook you up with, $400 - hideous amounts of money depending on how far you want to go, O/S valves, match porting etc, its all about how deep your wallet is.

Ah well, now we've got a couple of people keen i'll have a proper look into it over the next week. First model will only be compatible with reluctance sensors so a 7K dizzy should make it work on a K motor, smallport/modified bigport dizzy on a 4AGE. I'll make it fire 4 pulses per 720. Like this you'll be able to run single, wasted and individual coils on a 4 banger. I reakon you can't go past Camry or celica late model individual coils on a 4A, such a neat install. I did some research the other day into allowing a serial/USB interface to let you set the timing on the programmable ecu. I'd have to write a little program to allow simple modification of the advance/retard, should be possible though. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress. I need to get an old 4K on an engine stand to trial it on though. Dang more junk.

Its interesting that someone bought up the 2ZZ, heres a puzzle for someone to solve. An import mob that I deal with has a customer using a modified standard RWD Toyota housing with a few new holes drilled in. If I worked at a wreckers I'd try and track down what he used. So there will be a 2ZZ AE86 floating around brissy in the next few months I'd say. :n:

Yep, engine loads is boosts best friend, I do the same trick, but use the foot brake in heel toe. My mates t3/4 VL loved this kind of treatment, the launch speed was incredible, gotta love 300kw!

The money in a good worked motor is all in the head. I really don't think an atmo K motor will be tearing standard rods or cranks apart that often, I've revved a standard bottom end to 7.5K rpm daily for 6 months, and it wasn't very fresh. The only advantage in the bottom end might have fresh bearings, or maybe modified pistons to up the compression. Is the camshaft still in the block? I'd be surprised if its a good bottom end with the head removed, doesn't really make that much sense, I'd pull my ported head off after destroying the bottom end somewhere, not before.

Ignition only ecu is the go, problem is the expense, a crane unit is $500, I think loveKE70's one was in excess of 700 bucks to run his LPG 1GGTE. I'm pretty certain building an ignition only ecu is quite easy, and If I can have them available for under 200 bucks I reakon there would be a market.

Yeah the idea would be to use a small PIC to take the distributor signal. It would take the inputs and use a program to trigger the coils at set advance/retard. I had a bit of a read and I'm pretty sure it can be done quite cheap. To get it to work on a 4K would be pretty easy too, either a 7K distributor or fit 4A pickups to the 4K dizzy.
-
I'm pretty sure I could make a one off proto-type pretty cheap, I'm keen to have a go, there'd be heaps of carby turbo people who could make real good use a setup like this. I'll do a post and see how much interest there is tomorrow.

I haven't heard the best thing about those HKS twin charge kits on the GZE, apparently they drive full throttle for 2 seconds after you throttle off. Fine on a race track, not so good on the street. The VW setup is far superior. Nice to see someone having a go at a twincharge motor, I hope you get this thing running well.

It wouldn't be hard to make a custom circuit that would detect the pulse from a standard dizzy or (preferably) a crane module that would alternate the signal between two sets of coils for wasted spark. You could even go to COP coils. You'd use EFI igniters to fire the coils. I wonder how much interest there'd be on a nice module for running carbs on old rigs with individual coils, it quite simple to build. If there was some real interest on a module I'd make a fully programmable one that has adjustable advance / retard.

I know someone who's sucessfully tuned a set of Keihan moto carbs on a 4AGE. He has the advantage of working on lotus sports cars that run similar carbs, using the lotus visualisation software he got them running perfect. On a dyno this thing has hit 10,000rpm pulling around the 170bhp mark from memory. The igniton side of things is more of a challenge. I'd personally wait for a cheap crane ignition to show up on ebay, all the carby distributors people graft on work, but I don't think mechanical or vaccum advance cuts it with a motor like a 4AGE.

This topic has come up a few times on Rollaclub. It all ends up to whether you want the quick fix of the half cut, or have the time to pull the whole thing to bits and build it up from scratch. He already has a 7 Rib bottom end, and the tough crank, its a good starting point if you want a fresh motor. It's a fact that a fresh motor will go harder than an import one. If your motor has low K's you may not even need to grind the journals! Quick hone, pop the gudgeon pins and fit the new pistons. GZE low comp Pistons $380 Bearings $200 Labour $300 - 500 Gasket kit $180 SC14 $300 Aftermarket ECU & Loom $ 1000 7MGTE injectors $100 $2680 I don't know how much you get GZE Half cuts for, but there around the $2000 mark in QLD. We both know how often import motors from Japan have had there oil changed, would you prefer a fresh motor or a 100,000km motor that's had 2 oil changes in its life? A lot of people are hesitant to rebuild a motor, getting an import motor is a quick solution, but it may not always be the best one.

Smallports will take 8 psi stock on an aftermarket. Pistons are really quite strong in a smallport, only difference in the real world is the compression ratio you get. I don't know why your raving about injectors not flowing enough, They are bolt on! If your cheap get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, you can get 30 % better flow there, taking you to about 200HP on stock injectors. You can get a selection of different injectors of oodles of toyota's around - $100 tops. - once the GZE is in your engine bay the possibilities are virtually endless, unlike the GE - This is all opinion, I've seen reliable 3 rib bigports, atmo make better power than most GZE's out there. Why waste money on a GZE, you already have the tough bottom end, go get some nice aftermarket pistons for the motor, re-ring and hone, will be a better motor than a 100K import GZE anyday.

4ac Turbo Or 4ac N/a (paradise Racing)
beerhead replied to Toyparts Industries's topic in Engine Conversions
I don't think the beams is the best bang for you buck motor, they are an amazing piece for engineering, but that makes importers want to put a huge price tag on them. 2ZZ's are more of a peaky engine than a 20V, top end only FTL (come on guys he was talking a 1UZ at the start) good luck getting change from $4000 for the motor and wiring, let alone converting it to RWD. That said, I did here a rumour that someone has found a standard Toyota bellhousing that bolts to the 2ZZ in RWD. F20's are a terrible motor, on anything besides paper or a dyno. They cost more than a Beams, they don't have enough ring tension. They burn 2L of oil between services, and Honda thinks that this is ok. WTF! Honda spares are too exxy! I know all engine manufacturers are on a quest for less friction inside motors to save fuel usage, but I'm not into oil fouling as a standard feature on expensive motors. I wouldn't touch an S2000 with a 10foot pole. 2RZ's aren't much of a power house, but they do have some awesome torque, problem is they don't make huge power without a blower, and a 2.4 turbo is never gonna be legal in a corolla. -
found the other carry per

4ac Turbo Or 4ac N/a (paradise Racing)
beerhead replied to Toyparts Industries's topic in Engine Conversions
I think what you're trying to build is a truly an original corolla. The problem is you're driving the most mass produced car there is besides the VW Beetle. I agree 4AGE's have been done to death, but that's because bang for your back and the ease of installation in a blessing in an AE71. I think you may have neglected to look further abound for an interesting engine conversion. I don't know if you've seen Brownie's KE70 2 Door with a BMW 2.5 turbo 6 from norway? Down the importers I've seen 2.5 Vanos 99 half cuts with 60K on the clock for $2500 190kw factory !! Would be an interesting road to go down, I wonder what other engines are hiding out there to make there way to rwd :) -
Using my database I can get you a list of rotors to suit your size requirements, let me know if you want me to get some part numbers for you. Bolt up the caliper and work out exactly how tall the rotor needs to be to bolt up to the hub properly and be spaced properly.

Hey dude, I've always had a thing for the 1UZ, great engine, I reakon its gonna be nose heavy though. The R154 is a massive job to fit in the KE, they're too tall across the whole length. Are you gonna put a transmission tunnel from another car in to make it easy? If you go to all that effort, It'd be worth trying to tuck it in as far as possible. I gotta say though, if your planning to run this on the street rego'd, are you sure you don't want to do a more sensible conversion? This thing is gonna attract a lot of attention.

Paint and body looks great, positive offset wheels FTL though, I've never liked anything but dish on oldschool rolla's. I've always wondered how the 7K's pull, what's it like to drive?

Holy Spirit: Ae71 - New Motor In Development
beerhead replied to beerhead's topic in Rollaclub Rides
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get a 3SGTE import motor, build a custom turbo manifold and bung in it. ST185 Half cuts are $2000 bare engines are $1500, quite cheap for what you get. I reakon it'll hammer stock. ST141 gearbox's are cheap as. It'll give me time to build up a fresh bottom end whilst still being able to have some fun. -
If you ever try and get Sierra parts, remember that there is a Narrow Track and a Wide Track model. The Later wide track transfer case is very weak. Good mod on the Narrow track is the Wide Track flares and diff's, really makes them handle a lot better.
-
Its a shame your not in QLD, my house mate had the perfect Sierra you. Approx 140kw 4AGE fitted, $1700 head on the thing and he let it go for $2000 !!!! I wish I would have had a few spare dollars at the time, would have kept the motor for something interesting.
