All K motor's have an alloy head (dunno about the real early ones), hence hardened valve seats, they will run on unleaded no problems :)

I agree with the astron 2.6 motor in it, a mate had one bored to 2.9L with twin webers in a galant coupe. Let me say it was a weapon, but died a messy death. Don't mind the old lancers, but you've always got to be scared of they're hereditary cancer, how's that one faring the ages?

Hey Lexcy! Welcome to Rollaclub. Restoring old car's is such a personal thing, the question you ask can't really be answered by another person. You've just got to work out how much you like the car, how much you would anticipate it'd cost to restore (then double it to be safe) and whether at the end you'll have a vehicle that'd serve it's purpose for your demands. Personally I love the KE50's they're such a rare retro looking car, if you don't restore it I'm sure someone on rolla club would take up the job rather than stripping the nice old beast. Best of luck on the panel van hunt, if you want to move your bike without a trailer it'd be awesome.

Wheel alignment made a huge difference. By the looks though the steering box is busted so that has to go be changed too. Gotta love the place i got the work done, Rocklea Mechanical Repairs. The owners mate had just bought Tony Longhurst's targa tasmania car and was sitting on the hoist getting checked over. The shockies on the thing had a 38mm bore and were $5000 a corner. Apparently they're the same brand that run's in the V8 super cars. mmm, 1 shocky would cost the planned build cost of my whole car :) Brian who run's the joint is a champion, he races a highly modified porche 911.

I love the road's around the mountain south of hobart towards huonville / dover. There's some real nice bends, such a pity it's wet most the time. I should do another road trip down sometime to visit my mate in launy.

The brakes I had came with lines, so I just left the sprinter ones on. They bolted straight to the KE55 connector on the inner guard. I didn't fit the corona struts to my car, it was done when I bought it, but I'm pretty sure the RA40 parts are what most people use. Demuire did all the mod's on my car before I got it. I know someone who may have a set of AE86 brake lines if you're keen.

I didn't end up getting a set of celica ones, I knew a guy who was wrecking a sprinter and picked up a set of AE86 ones. I'm pretty sure the celica ones will be the same though, I'll go measure some next time I'm at the wreckers, maybe someone has some lying around?

Finished the front end today. Turned out the AE86 and Corona steering arms have identical stud width, so the job went smoother than I could have planned.

Sign me up for one of those plates Sam, very keen. Woo Hoo!!! Got all the front suspension in today :y: It's a completely different car, ride height is no-longer like a 4x4(on the front), springs are a pretty good match. Haven't got a wheel alignment yet, but I'm already impressed by the way the car sits on the road. I really need to invest in a digital camera!

Had a good read through the water conversion you did Sam, it's got everything explained good enough to attempt the conversion, will take you up on the offer if there's any troubles. I'm gonna use a 4AC housing too, will try and AE82 twincam waterpump that I have lying around. Still finishing the front suspension over the next week, then the transplant should begin after that.

The spline on the 20V clutch is larger than the AE82/AE92 version. It'll also be 212 not 200mm like your AE82 clutch. You'll need an AE92 clutch kit to use the 20V flywheel on your AE82 with the AE82 box. With the 20V box, I've heard that the selectors need a bit of work to make them mate up properly, but other than that it'll fit it ok. There's a chance that there won't be a cable speedo drive on the 20V box too, might be worth a look. What I'm not sure of is whether the CV's will bolt up, or whether the width of the AE101 is the same as an AE82. I'm sure if you google the widths of the two cars you'll come up with an answer. There's piles of people on twincam.org that have done this conversion, might be worth posting there for more help.

Geez that's looking good, so close hey, The cut and shut on the manifold looks great too, gotta outflow the stock GZE manifold majorly.

Got the rotors machined today, picking up the new bendex high temp pads and some wheel bearing tommorow, all I need now is some AE86 steering arms which I think I have sourced. So close to new suspension!

Ah cheers I'll head down the wreckers tomorrow with a trusty measuring tape. I think celica ones will be a tad easier to source than sprinter ones.

I don't know why they didn't source some nice crome bumpers considering the amount of effort to make a car into a soft top. Or did the US phase out the chrome look before 83? I think it may be google o clock :dance:

Ah crap, by the looks I will need some AE86 ones. I just checked and coilovers appear to have holes 1.5mm narrower than the KE55!! Murphy strikes again, no new suspension for me yet :dance:

Just wondering if anyone can tell me which steering arm's I'll need to install my AE86 coilovers. I've got some KE55 and corona ones atm, the KE55 ones are the wrong size, not sure about the corona ones cause they're on the car, does anyone know if KE70 ones a match? Or do I need to score some AE86 factory ones ?

expand-a-foam will let you make some fully sic flares, love that crap.

Got the AE86 gland nut's for holding the shockies down today, a perfect fit. All I've got to do now is get the rotor's machined and score some new brake pads.
