How Many Tries Did It Take To Get Your Licence?
adam-__- replied to chrisandliz's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
I got 100% the first time I did my Ls test. I studied a bit for that, low on cash and didn't wanna waste the chance. Ps I got the first time also, only lost 1 mark for not using the outside mirrors enough. I think that's because my car's got guard mirrors and they're pretty useless so I adapted my driving to mainly using the in cabin mirror. :P -
Thanks mate. Some people seem to think the style I'm going for is stupid. Check out the thread in the general discussion section. :(
-
Brand would depend on what style you're after. Mesh style wheels, Longchamps or the SSR MKII or MKIII, etc. It really depends on what you want. Oh and you have to pay before it gets shipped out. :( The 8 weeks I counted started from the time it left for sea. Add another few months of searching before hand. haha
-
No worries mate. With searching on yahoo, it's best to search for a particular name and brand of the wheel. Not just typing in 'wheels' in Japanese and hoping for the best. ;) I remember when I was searching for my set of wheels, so many came up. Most weren't in the right offset and when they were, they were always too expensive. Just be patient and something will come along. Once they do come along and you win the auction, again, be patient, you could be in for a long wait! :( 8 full weeks for me.

The Yahoo Auctions Japan site will need you to search everything in Japanese. If you're not confident with that, there are other people out there bringing those type of wheels you're after into Australia. If you're after Japanese wheels, you won't find them in Australian tyre and wheel stores unfortunately. Edit: I hope you got my PM.

The wheels you're after will have to have a stud pattern of 4x114.3. The standard wheel specs are, 13x4.5" with a offset of +32mm. To find out how the new wheels will sit, you'll need to know a width and offset. With these numbers, throw them into the offset calculator and you'll see how much of a difference these wheels will sit to the originals. I'm personally more of a fan of the Japanese branded wheels so I would look at auctions on Yahoo Japan and purchase wheels through there. Some may prefer the big and chrome look, those can be easily purchased at your local tyre/wheel store. I'm running SSR and Hoshino mesh wheels at the moment. You can check out the photos in my 'Rides' thread here: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=17254 Decide on a style which you're after and we'll be able to help you out more. Hope that helps.

I personally don't like anything larger than a 15" on a E7. Those wheels in the for sale link aren't the best styling either. It's a message board where we share opinions and that's mine. Depending on the widths and offset of those wheels you're after, you could get away with the bolt on conversion spacers. The conversion spacers will be at least 25mm thick. So if the wheels are 7" wide up front, the offset would have to be originally +30 or there abouts for it to clear rolled guards. Even then, I think you'll have trouble rolling around in 17s with those spec wheels.

Oooohh I'm interested to see this project! From what you've told me, this is gonna be interesting. Keep us updated. :lolcry:

Thanks guys. The comments have made me want to keep the car even more! I was thinking of selling at one stage. :lolcry: I like the way me rear wheels sit in the guards at the moment. Couldn't ask for more. ;) The fronts aren't too bad, just need the corona arms and it'll be perfect. I haven't done anything extreme yet to need the grip anyway so it's all good. Just rounding things up for my 4AGE conversion. Just need the AE radiator, fuel lines, fuel pumps and the ECU, looms to suit a big port. Once I get all these things and everything rocks up at my door, the project will begin. I'm on a 8 week uni break so that'll help! Cheers :y:

Not really a fan of kits on E7's either, but that yellow one looks tough. If your car ends up looking like that one, good work! Nice clean car though, keep us updated. :)

Because I mentioned my wheel nuts, I might as well post up a picture of them. :)

Cheers mate. Yeah, I bought my wheels off Yahoo Auctions Japan. I got Jesse Streeter to bid and send them over to me. Not too sure if I've mentioned it before, but it set me back about $950 all up including Rays Engineering wheel nuts, so not too bad. bahahahah  The camera used is my brothers, not 100% sure on the name, but it's some Canon with 5 mega pixel camera. Here's a picture of what it looks like. Instead of pink, it's black. Not the best camera out there, but does the job. Cheers! :)

Thanks for the comments. I ended up using a pole to flare my guards a little more. I couldn't stand my tyres rubbing every little second that it was moving. hahah With the front wheel fitment, it's not too bad, but would like it a little wider/aggressive. I was thinking corona arms, just need to find someone selling one for a decent price. I agree with you that it needs a little camber for it to look aggressive. Soon... Engine upgrades, YES! :) I found a guy in Tassie who's selling his 4AGE into KE70 package and I've put a deposit on it, but still need to hear a price for shipping to me in Melbourne. Package comes with the engine itself, gearbox, from engine cross member, modded T18 pedal box to suit KE70, clutch master and lines. Still need a few things to get it actually running though. Hopefully by the end of next week I'll see the package and I'll start work on the car straight away.

All I can say is, that's a dusty as engine bay you've got! :) I see you're stuck under these turbo laws too. It sucks man.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm in the Dandenong region mate. A newspaper roll is pretty much just dropping your car onto your tyres with only a newspaper/book in between your guard and tyres. So pretty much take out your springs so that the car rests on your tyres, the newspaper's just there to give the tyres some clearance if the car ever gets to that height WITH the springs in. This technique 'pumps' your guards out where it's needed. Pretty dodgy if you ask me, but it does the job. :)

I've taken a few more shots of my car since the last time I posted in here. With my car, I'm just starting to gather all the gear I need to get a 4AGE in my car. What I've got on the way are the gearbox cross member, gearbox and engine mounts, both the rubber and steel mounts. Should arrive by the end of the week, thanks Gilly! Currently waiting on a quote for the engine cross member, clutch master and lines to be sent down to me from Sydney. I was so close to buying a T-50 this afternoon, but the seller had a local buyer asking the same price so I lost it. What I still need is the 4AGE, T-50 gearbox, AE71 tail shaft and pedal box so if you have any of these items lying around in your back yard (or still in a car you're dismantling), LET ME KNOW!!! :) I'll be waiting until all the parts I need are in front of me before I start my conversion. I want the car to be off the road for the least amount of time.

Your car's stance is farkin tough dude. Keep us updated with the sr20 project!

With $5k, I would personally go for a 4AGE conversion. Been done many times before and pretty much a straight forward conversion except for the hydraulic clutch installation (only need to rip out dash and drill a few holes, but pain the arse from what I've heard). Many threads on what's needed to be done.

Yep! Supercheap were out of stock though. Going to go pick them up tomorrow. Hopefully everything runs smoothly, but from what I've read, it shouldn't be all that hard. Cheers

That's all I needed to hear. Thanks!

Hey guys, I was thinking of replacing my fuel filter and wasn't too sure how to go about it. I've searched google, but they're all for electronically fuel injected cars, would changing a filter on a 4kc ke70 be the same process? I'm just worried about de-pressurising the system. How should I go about doing this? I'm a complete noob when it comes to these type of cars, so please help me. :) Thanks in advance. -Adam

Cheers mate. Just to let you know, the rear wheels are 7.5 -8 and fronts are 7 +5, not -5. :) I'm happy with the way the rears sit, but the fronts are a little weak. They were right on the guards to begin with, but once I used the newspaper method of rolling the guards, the gap got too big. hahha. Need some wider or lower offset wheels now. Tomorrow, I'll be pulling the rear suspension out, one side is lower by 10mm than the other and it's rubbing. Hopefully when I get it all even, the rubbing will go away (only the lower side rubs at the moment). Saturday, I'll be respraying the front wheels black. An engine conversion will definitely be the next mod. :y:
-
Definitely have a search under different terms on this forum. I've searched myself before buying suspension and I can tell you that a LOT has been covered. Read it once, then read again to understand and make your mind up. Good luck with it. :)

I haven't driven the car hard yet or at all really. Too scared... I've driven in it with 2 passengers and it rubbed pretty bad. I must admit, it was really annoying. hahaha About the speedo reading, I didn't know how to fix it so I just used a bandaid job and got larger diameter wheels. When I get my gearbox checked out (it's got bearing noises at the moment), I'll try to get the speedo fixed up and get some 195/50's on the wheel to fill out the guards a little more (sounds stupid to think I could fit wider tyres on, but I think there's enough room :y: ).
-
They don't rub all that bad to be honest. Well with the one person (me) being in the car, the rubbing isn't annoying (but I only drive for about 5mins a day so...). Thanks for the advice and comments Gilly, it really means a lot hearing it from you! hahaha. With the part that doesn't come out, I just used a pair of pliers and pulled it out a little to make it even after I took those photos. It's even now, but you can see all the dents left behind by the pliers.
