  1. In Victoria, you would just have to get a road worthy certificate, go to VicRoads to clear the defect and they'll just check over what you were defected for. Sucks you were defected, but I guess that's a part of modifying a car.
  2. Ah that's not bad news mate. I will try and remember to ask my insurance company about the same thing when adding modifications to my list and get back to you guys about the outcome. I shouldn't be different to Shannons, but we'll see.
  3. Yep, that's what I've heard from a few people too. Not notifying the insurance company about the modification you did, whether it's legal or not, they just won't pay out for that modification. Buy wheels, put them on, but don't tell insurance company and when it comes time to make a claim, they'll pay out what you told them you had. Edit: Let is know how it goes. I know I'm not from the same state, but insurance companies wouldn't be much different if at all.
  4. Ah that isn't too bad then. Hmm if the modification didn't cause the accident... :hmm: I wonder what you could get away with. didn't mean it to come out like that. I just thought that because you're getting the entire car legal, why not go make the wheels legal as well. Lets just say you've got wheels over the limit, you crash, you get rejected. Then there's another guy who engineered his whole car, but had illegal wheels, he spent heaps of money trying get everything legal, he crashes, he gets rejected. It's the same outcome in the end, why bother engineering your car and wasting that money when you'll end up in the same position as if you didn't get it engineered? I hope that made some sense. I just think that seeing that you're getting everything else legal, why not your wheels too. Edit: Not trying to start shit by the way. Just trying to clear up what I meant by that sentence in my first post.
  5. I honestly don't think the insurance company would even check how much your track is over the legal limit, but they would do anything to reject your claim. I've read a bit of your build thread and seeing that you're doing everything else right, do this one thing right as well. No point going to all the trouble having everything else legal then just having your wheels over the legal limit. If it was just a standard *e7* with wheels over the limit, I wouldn't really care if I had the risk of not getting paid out. You're doing all the hard work already getting it legal, might as well do it all right. My 2c. :)
  6. Happy Birthday mate! :)
  7. The first pics correct, don't know what I'm looking at in the second one though. :)
  8. It first just 'folds' well rolls the lip under the guards. Flaring I would say involves some 'stretching' of the guards. Really depends how far you want the guards to go and how low your car is. Your car should get away with a roll. :)
  9. Guard rollers can be picked up for about $150 from Bursons. They're very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Comes out nice if you're just after a roll. Once you start flaring the guards, it gets a little trickier. Pretty much take wheel off, bolt guard roller on, heat the guard up with a heat gun, start rolling! Adjusting the roller along the way making it tighter to get a flatter finish. Edit: There should be a few people around who can do the roll for you. Not sure what the going rate is over on your side of the country, but here in Melbourne, expect to pay around $45 for a roll per corner. $60+ for a flare per corner. Something like that. Best to buy a roller and do it yourself then sell roller later on, but it's up to you whether or not you trust yourself enough.
  10. Sierra shocks are REALLY short. You've seen pics of my car's height out back (well at least I think you have, you posted in my thread :hmm: ), it takes the factory jack probably 2 whole 'proper' turns for my tyres to lift off the ground? Something like that. They keep the springs captive, they're about 180mm or so in free height. There's barely any bump in the shocks, but heaps of rebound (edit: I might've got that the wrong way around. :) ).
  11. Hey mate, I only just saw this thread! Very clean ride you've got there. Here are a few pics to show you what rolled guards look like. They'll give you more tyre clearance if you're having rubbing issues. The next step is to flare your guards. Pretty much however you 'rolled' your guards, you'll have to keep doing it and then eventually your guards will 'stretch'. Before pics of under guards: After: Here's another, before: After: Guard rollers are used to roll your guards. Some people are dodgy and would use a pole. :) Pictures stolen from a user on ae86dc.
  12. Doesn't look too bad, but needs a wash. :hmm: Here are some pics of the front wheel's fitment. Before was just with standard arms, after is with XT130 arms. Before: After: Sorry about the shitty 'after' shots, I only just ran out and took them then. :) Hopefully the distributor will arrive tomorrow and we can try and start the engine.
  13. Long list of mods there mate. Wider wheels and she'll look awesome. :)
  14. Cheers mate. I try not to think about how much I've spend, but I have this list going on to show me how much I've spent. It's not a complete list, but it's pretty much the things I needed for the conversion and it has a total of $2567 so far. If everything's going to plan, it should cost about $3k all up for the conversion. I'm still yet to purchase the exhaust. My budget before I started the conversion was only $2k! :( Nothing goes to plan. :D Hope that gives you an idea. Edit: I just wanted to say that I paid for another distributor today. I'm thinking the owner of the one that was supposed to come to me is ripping me off. I just don't understand how you could just all of a sudden forget to send it out with everything else. Oh well, I'll do what I can to get it. :(
  15. This is how my engine bay looks currently with pretty much everything, but the dizzy and igniters hooked up. Nothing interesting really...
  16. All the wiring on the car's pretty much done, just need to wait for the igniter and distributor then she's ready to be fired up! Hey Matt, I took a few shots of the engine bay after I got the wiring done, they're still on my brother's camera so can't post it just yet. Tried to take a few photos of the Corona arms installed as well, but my mum's car is in the way so couldn't really get a good shot of it. Hopefully the parts arrive soon and the car gets started by the end of this week. :( I'll be updating the progress soon. :(
  17. Keep at it mate. You'll eventually get there. At first it does seem hard, but you pick it up real quick if you've got the right people teaching you. Just find that friction point and stay there for a little while longer for it to stop the jerking. Good luck with it!
  18. Oh I also forgot to say that I picked up some Corona XT130 lower control arms yesterday. :P I was expected a bit more camber out of it, but it should be alright for a daily driven car. Pics to come when motor is all up and running. Cheers
  19. 'Dirty' and 'nasty'? LIES!! That's one of the cleanest xE7x's I've seen. Very clean. More pics please! :P
  20. Cheers guys. Hi Nino, The extractors are the TRD copies from Kaizen Garage. Bought them for about $340 or something delivered with a new clutch line made up to clear the slave cylinder. I'm not too sure if they will or will not clear for left hand drive cars. With the conversion, everything's pretty much in place, fuel pumps and lines all in their places, wiring is still a bit messing around to actually get it started, just a few starter motor lines, etc. No point rushing to get it done. Everything's pretty much here and ready for the motor to start except for the distributor which was supposed to be sent out with my engine, but the sender 'forgot'. Still waiting on that, he still hasn't even sent it out yet! :P I'm a bit annoyed about that, but hopefully it'll be sent out soon as it's holding up my project.
  21. Yep, pretty much it. New drivers from July 1st will now have to hold their P licence for at least 4 years in total. A few people have gotten confused switching to green Ps, I just wanna say that the laws you had to stay by with the red plates, you carry over to the greens. The only thing that changes is the colour of your plate.
  22. ;) Was way too busy and excited to take any more photos. Still need to wire the motor up, set up the fuel lines and... I think that's it! Still waiting on the distributor which was supposed to be sent out with the motor, gearbox package, but didn't ( ;) ). Need to get igniter and a few other little random bits. Hopefully we'll be ready to start the engine by mid next week, Wednesday.
  23. Thanks mate. It's really good to hear. :D Cheers! Umm the problem I had with the uneven ride heights is still there. I put in the other half of the spring which I chopped up and it's better, but still uneven. I took both sides out the first time and they were EXACTLY the same length. No idea what's going on there. If you ever find out what's going on, I'd like to know! hahaha :P
  24. Cheers mate. The items are expected to arrive tomorrow so hopefully I can get started soon! Will try to make a step by step guide for the 4AGE to KE70 install too. We'll see.
  25. A little taste of what's to come in the next few weeks.
