  1. Hey guys, I've just purchased a welded diff centre for my car and I think I've run into some problems before I've even started. My car's currently running a standard open borgwarner diff with 3.9 ratio and the welded center I just bought is the 4.1 ratio'd one from the automatics. What I'm confused on is whether or not I can use the 4.1's center with crown wheel in my manual housing which still has the 3.9 pinion? In other words, can I put a diff centre which has the 4.1 crown wheel into a housing which still has the 3.9 pinion gear in it? Or will I have to change the pinion gear to the 4.1 ratio one for this new locked center to work? Cheers, Adam
  2. Car hasn't really changed much since my last post, but I have picked up a locked diff centre. :D Finally... The centre was from an auto borgwarner (4.1 ratio) and from what I've been told, these can't be put into the manual housing without changing the pinion to the higher ratio one as well? If it doesn't, I think I'll have to take the crown wheel off my current diff and put that onto the welded one. :) Anyone know? Edit: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=23669 Answer in there if anyone needs it.
  3. Luke's into BMX riding and is quite good at it from what I've heard. Never knew he was a world champ though. :)
  4. Ohh they're here already!! 5 week wait, not bad at all! Too bad one didn't turn up with the lot though. I hope it'll turns up soon. :y: They look overrated. Throw them on the car!! Who cares about respraying them. :hmm:
  5. 1983 KE70: 13x4.5 32mm offset. Tyres I had on them were 175/70, but I'm not sure if they're the standard size. Edit: These specs were printed on the 'lip' of the wheel. Not measured up by myself. :D
  6. To remove tint, it only costs ~$80 if I remember correctly. You seem a little tight on money so to remove tint, you'll need an emo blade and a heat gun. Just heat up the area to be removed then rip off tint and scrape away with the blade. Use eucalyptus oil to remove the stickyness. Edit: Ah damn... got in too slow. The above links seem a little better than my advice. :D
  7. It sucks that you found as much rust as you did, but lucky you're a good welder hey! :) Hope to see it at a meet soon.
  8. I can't believe I only just saw your thread. :) Car's clean as mate. I would love my engine bay to be as clean as yours. hahah
  9. Whoa f@$k! 18s! Never seen that on a E7 or any old school Corolla before. Like others have said mate, should be able to fit them with the right offset. All in the offset and tyre size.
  10. Yeah, spacers are needed unless you shorten the strut. You'll probably have to get a gland nut made up as well. The standard ones don't fit if I remember correctly. If you run into problems with the nut, I've got a spare pair here. Cross threaded the start of the nut (one 'ring'), but will do the job. The shocks don't keep the springs captive at all. At all.. hahah I think you'll need something about 100mm shorter to keep them captive. Hey Christian, Thanks for the comments. I personally think that the car looked more tough with the lower springs in, but yeah, the police won't like it much so this will have to do. Depending on how the road is, my car is JUST legal ride height. Wheels are from SSR. You can easily find them on yahooauctions Japan. Just type in 'SSR Mesh' in Japanese and it'll come up. Cheers
  11. Car looks very nice mate. What rear shocks are you running? Any droop at all? I'm currently running Sierras but fark they're short..
  12. Definitely an improvement with the rubbing, but my wheels are still touching the front of the guard. Need to run more/less castor or something. :) I forgot to mention that these shocks don't keep the springs captive at all. No where near... Oh well. hahah
  13. My front shocks are from a ST185 Celica with KYB part number 365077. 490mm extended, 346mm compressed. Cartridge size is 332mm with an OD of 44mm. Running 14" wheels shouldn't be much different to what mine are with 15s. Remember that you're keeping the same rolling diameter. :)
  14. Received and installed the new springs this evening. Very happy with the way it's come out. Not too high or too low. Here are some pictures. They're 210mm free height 8kg springs. Sorry about the poor shots, I was taking photos with a camera which had a stuff screen.
  15. How wide are your wheels? From the looks of it, there's nothing really in the 15" tyre range small enough to give you that look. The smallest you can really go to keep the same rolling diameter is 195s and for these to have a stretch look, you'll be needing some 8"+ wide wheels. Stretching tyres is the new rice mod in my opinion. Some people think that there's no reason for you to stretch tyres, but I think that you only need them if your wheels with tyres any other size don't clear the guards. If you can put more than 1 finger between your guards and tyres, you don't need the stretch.
  16. Yep! That's it right there. I still have it by the way. Parents use it to buy groceries. :jamie: From a quick search, the 210mm springs will be a bit high! hahaha I'm just buying them cause I get too many dirty looks from the men/women in blue. Just asking for trouble with its current height. Edit: Here's a picture of the current height up front. It gets worse when you add the driver and a passanger. :P
  17. Never mind about the above problem. All sorted. Just adjusted the idle screw and all seems good now. When its warmed up completely, it idles at 1krpm now compared to 1.5k. I've got a little something to show everyone about my car. These are the first two pictures I took of the car that is now mine. These pictures were taken when I went to check the car out. It's changed so much since then. Nothing has changed much since the last time. I purchased new front springs though. 8kg springs which are 210mm in free length. Not too sure how high these will sit so it would be good if someone could throw a few pics up. Thanks
  18. Read somewhere that only the AE71 pannos had the AE86 struts. :P There's a AE71 panno at my local wrecker, I'll check them out to see if they are the same. Hope they haven't crushed it yet though.
  19. Nice little read. Your English isn't bad mate. Did you use spring compressors to take the rear springs out? :jamie: I hate using them! I took my rear springs out by undoing the shock and kicking it out. hahah Keep us updated. :P
  20. What did you mean by, "get the dish out alittle"? Do you want the wheels to stick out further? You're wanting to go to a smaller sized tyre so I'm guessing you want the 'stretch' look?
  21. Damn.. they seem to stick out quite a bit! With my 15x7.5 -8's up front, it doesn't stick out THAT much. I've got corona arms, but still, the arms don't give shit all enough camber to tuck those in. :hmm: Edit: Here's a pic to compare. Edit edit: You've got S13 suspension.... completely forgot. :sob:
  22. I just remembered that there's something a little wrong with my car/motor. Nothing serious, just annoying. When I start the car, pretty much drive it straight after I let it warm for ~10sec, everything goes fine. Engine warms up fine, it's when the engine is at the normal operating temperature that I start to get idle problems. It starts to hunt, but it's not a up down up down up down type of idle. When I go for a drive and slow down to a set of traffic lights for example, the engine will stay running at ~1.5krpms, but then out of nowhere it'll drop to 1krpm then go back up to 1.5krpms. It'll then idle there till I drive off again, but if I stay at the lights for long enough, it will drop down to 1krpm then go straight back up to 1.5krpms. Anyone know what it is? I've adjusted the TPS properly as far as I know because the throttle used to be shit until I turned it abit. haha And I've taken out the air pockets in the cooling system as far as I know, done it twice to make sure, but still here. It's nothing serious, just annoying. If what I wrote doesn't make sense, I've got a similar problem to this guy over on twincam.info, but someone's locked the thread and I don't know how he fixed it. :sob: http://www.twincam.info/index.php?showtopi...136&hl=idle Help! :hmm:
  23. It's an import so I guess so... :hmm: Edit: I know my KE isn't an import, but close enough :sob:
  24. I'm guessing just no burnouts, all that fully sick shit. I might turn up at the meet spot and cruise a bit, but don't think I'll be staying for the full event. I'm gonna crash... :sob:
  25. :hmm: Thanks mate. Means a lot to hear that. I love my car the way it is, I don't know what else to do to it apart from drive it! :sob:
