Okay, I'm trying to research which bits can be shared between AE86's and AE71's, but a lot of this info may also be helpful for TE72, and more obviously, KE70 owners. If I can successfully get this info together, I'll be creating an article for the FAQ with it all contained within, so if you know (for certain) anything, please list it below. I'm trying to find out the following: 1. Can a set of coilovers to suit the front of an AE86 work on the front of a KE70/AE71/TE72? 2. Can a set of coilovers to suit the rear of an AE86 work on the rear of a KE70/AE71/TE72? 3. Can a front strut brace to suit the front of an AE86 work on the front of a KE70/AE71/TE72? 4. Can a…

Hey all! I hope there's enough people here still to give me some advice. I just bought a 1983 Corolla Wagon that I plan on modifying to my liking, but I wanted someone to look over my parts list for lowering the car before I start buying things. I did my research in the KE70 Lowering thread, and I think I have a decent understanding of the parts I need. I was just hoping someone who has done the work can give me advice on whether or not these parts are correct. Hi everyone, I am trying to source a very specific and rare ignition switch (electrical contact part) for my 1982 Toyota Corolla KE70 (LHD, DX, 4K engine). My car came with the European supplier NEIMAN ignition assembly. The switch is a black/grey plastic cylinder with 4 wires (gray, brown, red, white), and has the casting code 1 G 1 25 on it. (https://imgur.com/a/KVZahPr) I didn't eve found a picture of it online. Does anyone have any advice on where to find one? Thanks in advance!

AE86 Body Panels on a KE70 – Is It Possible? Hey everyone, I have a serious question and would really appreciate some input. In my country, AE86s are extremely rare, but we have plenty of KE70s available. I used to own one and now I'm planning to buy another. While comparing the trunk panel of a KE70 with that of an AE86 Corolla Levin, I noticed a striking similarity between the two. That got me thinking, is it possible to weld AE86 body panels onto a KE70 chassis? If anyone has experience with this kind of swap or build, I’d love to see some photos, reference videos, or any resources that could guide me. My goal is to create something visually and str…

When I spent 6 months looking for a KE70 to teach my daughter how to drive, I found that all the nice ones were autos owned by older people, and all the manuals were well-thrashed by young guys. For this reason I think this conversion will become more common. I bought a nice auto and almost a year later, a complete manual donor car. This gave me the pedal box, flywheel, cable fitting and diff for $450, as well as the rest of the car including central locking and a dash with a rev counter in. Now, before you begin, clean the garage floor and paint it! There is nothing leaks oil like an auto! The lay out all your tools and disconnect the battery. You could take o…

A friend came round when I was wiring the 4AGE and gave me a thick book of Japanese car wiring diagrams. Here's the KE70 one. I'll do the KE30/55 next. Its 6144x2060 by 2.28Meg, I hope it doesn't get re-sized on the server. Fail... turns into 93Kb... can't see a thing. Photochop does the same. Send me a PM if you'd like the real size, or if you have a server that won't re-size it. A poor wiring diagram is just not worth having.

Some people have been having trouble finding the Aunger mounting kits for the rear louvres. (insert flood of replies about where to get them) This is a cheap (my kind of) way of mounting them List of what you'll need: Some sheet steel offcuts, I used 0.55 gauge zincalume, about 200mm by 200mm ish. A pop rivet gun Tin snips Rivets (about 10mm should do) Drill Beer First, cut out some tabs of steel, these were approx 35x35mm One side round the edges, this will help with installing them. Youll notice the louvre has a raised edge. You need to bend the tabs into a Z shape with the rounded edge protruding about 15mm Now I used t…

So, hunting around the wrecker checking on projects, I came across one of these- A Daihatsu Move. The reason it doesn't have a disc or hub on that side is because I have them on the bonnet of a nearby car.. They are unusual because the disc mounts on the back of the hub, like a RWD, while nearly all FWD put it on the front of the hub so the wheel bolts it into place. You can see the diameter is bigger by 16mm, or 8mm of radius. The swept area is MUCH bigger, 30mm out to 40mm is a lot. The hole in the middle is 6mm larger (FWD!) so we'd need a 3mm wall spacer to center it. The bolt holes are 2mm out, so that would need a litt…

OK, the KE70 has pathetic headlights, even at 60kph! So the first thing I tried was replacing ONE bulb with a 100/90watt halogen. This was a pain as the three 'wings' were not quite in the same place so I had to cut one off and re-rivet it back on a few mm around the edge. Then I found the difference in brightness to be very small! A bit of research found that the power goes straight to the bulbs, then earths back up the steering column and through the switch. Never a good idea, my old Datsuns were the same and we always re-routed those! So I decided to run relays on the lights and just go alternator-relay-bulb-earth. First I tested the idea- I set up the wi…

This is ONE way of doing it, and as usual its quick, cheap and easy. Needed: NE/NF/NG Pajero master cylinder. Old Mazda master cylinder banjo fittings. The short one was from a 626 and the longer ones were from a 121 (I think), both FWD. I used the longer of the three. I ripped them off one in a wrecker for nothing, remember to keep the washers. So rip out the old KE70 master, as you can see the outlets are in completely different configurations. Bolt the Pajero one in. Here you will see the issue with the brake lines in relation to the outlets. Yes you could make up new brake lines. Looking at the gap between the master rear outlet and…

This really started off last December, when Steve thought he'd bring me a banjo 4.1 for my birthday. It came from an abandoned KE70 on the roadside, and it turned out the reason it was abandoned was that one wheel bearing had collapsed completely and the oil was like metal-flake paint. So I thanked him politely and declined, running the 4.3 up and down to Walcha at somewhere over 1000km a trip. It started to get whiny, so the next trip was to the local wrecker.

Hey guys, ive got an 83 Corolla and I basically swapped an Old old ooooooold 4k out and swapped an old 4k in. Just for a learning experience etc etc.. I got everything in and going but I had a water pump leak, so I took it off cleaned everything up nicely cut a new gasket out of gasket paper and the water pump stopped leaking, however the thermostat housing is leaking too, and I tried the same fix but its corroded and the new gasket doesnt fix it.. Any ideas guys? For home fixes, or is it worth just buying a new one? Cheers in advance!

Looking for a cheap ke70 for cheap, doesnt have to be anything fancy. don't mind having to do a bit of work. Prefer a sedan but would consider a wagon, willing to spend up to $1500. Preferably in Queensland, must be willing to drive it to Atherton queensland or drop it to a depot. Email me pics and details [email protected] xx

Straighten the wheels of the car - to 100% straight on ! 1) Take font wheels of car 2) Find (14?mm) castle nut on end of tierod end, remove split pin. Crack nut. Do on both sides. 3) Measure from 2 points on the rack to the new rod ends, so that when you screw the new ones on, they sit in the same position. 4) unwind rack ends from rack. 5) Installation is reversal of removal ! 6) Send car for a wheel alignment! - leave anything loose, and you risk loosing all steering to the vehicle. ! This was originally posted by stahlz_ae86 on KE70.com, 9th of May 2007. This is a plastic rear wing from a Series 1 AE82 Seca hatchback (not a series 2, there is a difference in the shape as the series 2 incorporates the number plate light whereas the series 1 has the number plate lights as separate units either side of the plate). This photo shows it the right way up. It cost me around $30 from pick-a-part This is what it looks like up-side-down The next photo shows that i have hacked out the 'support thingys' located at quite regular intervals. I used a grinder with a cutting disk to cut into them from both the top and the bottom, then used m…
