Beautifull cars, every single one of them. Good to see there in good hands. That AE71 is very reasonably priced too, a little too cheap from him i'd thought. Will be good to meet him on Sunday, and some of the cars :)

Chris its enthusiasts such as your self who appreciate this which gives me the buzz to do this. Typically the issue with surface rust above the windscreen was due to the window trims put in by Toyota. Being a multi piece trim of 3 main lengths while it allowed for flexing it also allowed moisture, water and dust which would turn to dirt accumilate. Also, as the trims moved they would wear the paint down just enough to expose raw metal and with the moisture and dirt underneath it would rust. Its very common and can be found on the sv21 Camrys which feature the same trim design. I'm a little unsure on the surface around the doors though? pop up a pic in your rides thread and I may be able to address it :y: If you intend on keeping the long term it would be wise to remove the windscreen and clean the whole recess and repaint while blending into the roof. Yes that is my ke70 you saw :) , Your ae93 was the white series 1 I'm assuming? Nothing like an original SX, there was a charcoal series two as well.

Just a handy hint, tipping it will be parked outside? Steer clear of the metallic ones as they fade like the plague, encouraging all nasty stuff to happen underneath. Think Commodore (as they shared the same metallics as Holden). How many do you see with the sunburn, I see plenty. I have dealt with that bloke who is selling the cheaper Seca, he has enough parts to build up an e9! His a seller on ebay known as Corolla Mania which I got my starter motor from. Good to deal with but keep searching and you'll be suprised with what you see :y:

What Chirs said in regards to presentation of cars. The more superficial things you can pick on it the better as it draws more haggling for you. Especially if you need to pay someone else to clean it :wink: Really, you'd be better off cleaning up the interior or replacing bits and pieces as opposed to having a really great interior but exterior being in need of care, i.e rust dent removals, repaint etc. There are plenty around depending on body shape. Seca and Sedan seem to be the more common though, so don't be afraid to take your time but finding a Hatch with what you want you in it :y:

Thanks, a few hours work with a rag of petrol wiping over pre cleaned surfaces :) Blue liquid in the windscreen washer bottle is that solution from Turtle Wax, I think its called "bug off" with a cartooney picture on the front. I have never used the washer in the time I have owned this, but did so on the ae71 and it cleaned fine.

The battery pictured in the above photos was an RACV battery,(my replacement from battery world looks the same). It was 4 years old but all I did was take my 15 month old battery from the red corolla and pop it into this. Cranked over straight away when it wanted to though. The starter motor had an issue where the armetur was burnt out so it would be every second crank where it would start. I Let it go for a few months until I sourced cheap starter and had it cleaned and checked over and installed. Now it turns over first time every time. Regarding the airbox I suppose it has its limitations for some, for me I think its quite good and there is no delay like a carby set up. On my old ae82 if you gave it the berries as soon as those secondaires opened up you were hauling. Its just more agricultural compare to efi where its consistant. While you can't see it but behind the headlight or more accurately the parking light assembly there is a duct which taps in there near the guard to intake the passing air. I have mistakently driven this without doing the airbox clips and its quite loud :blush:. I believe it would be just as restrictive having a pod behind the battery as its drawing the ambient/hot air in the engine bay, the only good would be the sound factor. A friend of mine who has a red one has the lh guard liner broken/missing, as the air ducting is in the vicinity the intake sound is noticable but not crazy like with a pod. The other advantage of efi is the lack of vacuum pipes valves compare to the carby models if you want to tinker. One thing on this which needs replacing sooner rathe than later is the fuel filter, one of those metal ones that everyone dreads doing. Its still the original one so I'm sure it has 238,000 kms of rubbish in it. I think replacing it should help giving it a little sharper response :) Nothing to be ashamed of, you have a car which is the main thing. It beats walking sometimes!

Dan, some old(ish) engine bay shots for you :) Need to take some recent ones. Recently I sprayed some tyre shine on the engine ancillaries so everything is shiny and new looking, Did it after I changed the radiator and hoses. The second pic of under the bonnet shows a paint blisters, with a wire wheel rust coverter, undercoat and gloss paint it came up great. A while after I took out the grille, painted the badge gloss black, thoroughly cleaned the grille and gave it a few lush coats of clear (refer to novely photos) :y: Start of the detailing.

The right one will surface Sam, If I do another visit down to Kilsyth or there is a meet your most welcome check it out :) Put it this way, for the rwc I put the ridgy didge large box muffler on and you couldnt hear anything as the size so large. With this unit, while it has all the mounts like an oem type the chamber itself is much much smaller overall. So at idle its got a little rumble and driving it like I do (grandma) at low rpms it sounds good while still being in the boundaries. Its certainly no muffler which you must rev the ring out of to get a note. There is one downfall, the 3" tip on there stops the hook type hanger from releasing so I can't drop the muffler down if I want to reverse it. I havent looked properly but easiest option would be to remove the tip and tack it lower to the point of clearance. The novely plates grabbed attention, particularly when parked akwardly on the footpath and sloaping embankment near a pondage and there is a young guy unscrewing plates off a car! The first good muffler I put on was a walker, (full size) wouldnt mind puting it back on. Second was made by a company called Auspac performance exhausts. (Difference is the chrome tip, but you can see how limited the gap between muffler hook and hanger bracket it when theres a tip there.

Wow that is a different car, the camera effects accentuate the pearlness of the white paint, Love it! Shame about the big end bearing, at least once its done you'll know its all good :y:

Thanks Sam, well thats me I guess I like things to be clean and I think your on the money about the purist word too :blush: Its the satisfaction you get from seeing what you've done and other peoples recognition which gives me a buzz too. If I had a thought about modifiying it would be a continous excercise as I'd be constantly changing stuff to match other things and it'd cost big $$. While keeing something stock but near insanely clean pulls the same attention for a fraction of the cost :wink: And a few new photos from a while back with a novelty plate! Since these photos I replaced the number plates with some black and white for a cleaner look.

Hmm you'll be hard pressed to find a Csi without the garnish, but I'm sure if you know a panel beater he could probably weld up those holes anyway, Especially if there is a little surface rust which needs removing :y: I was at pick a part in Kilsyth last week and there was a white Holden Nova which had the tailgate spoiler that looked alright. Would you go for a manual though?

Buy another like bucket :poke: , but a Csi or Csi limited. Then you'll have a/c, pwr steering, efi so no carby issues. Its a whole different car to drive as I have compared the pair, and a few other nice touches too. :)

Looking at the rear right hand door in the last photo it has a nice shine to the paint, I'm guessing it has been previously polished and has progressively faded over time, or it has been blended from the rear 1/4 panel into the back door. With a good cut and polish the rest of the car would come up like that. Perhaps try and polish the car to see how good the paint is and assess the rusty areas and repair/paint those when its possible. Freshly cut and a new coat or two blended in certain area should come up alright. While primer may look good, as its an absorbant coating it will draw all the moisture and cause further rust.

Nice for a first car Troy, The bumperbars look okay, that front one would straighten out once its removed as the irons are probably bent. The rear looks to be missing the chrome insert, just replace that if need be. The tail lights used to fade on my old ae82, solution: Creme polish with a little paitence and they will have a shine and transperacny.

Looking good indeed, as you said simplicity is the key particularly when starting out :y: The colour is Midway Blue, but the two letter code will be stamped on the colour/trim plate which the auto paint shop will understand when you show them. K50's come up often enough, and yes a manual will transform the drivability of the car considerably! There arent many of these in a blue so a fresh coat would it good I think, and that interior looks quite clean too :)

Great progress Matty! Sounds tough coming straight from the extractors :) Hows the left hand mirror coming along :) Regarding buying the indicators off ebay, being Taiwanese quality can be questionable as far as colouring and fitment, if you want to bring back the shine on the guard indicators use some cream polish and do it by hand. If your pretty steady with a bench mounted buffing machine you could polish it up that way too. Ive done mine by hand any they have come out tops, especially since the car is garaged all the time as I'm sure your will be :wink: Keep up the good work!

I have only seen the ke70 and can honestly say its knackered, you'd be mad not to bend it. While I havent seen the ke25 the boys know a good thing when they see one and I'm sure if the ke25 was good this wouldnt have been the outcome. Looking forward to the next installment.
