  1. My parts finally arrived!! Got a set of coilovers that I bought from rollaclub and a surge tank I got off ebay. They are nothing fancy, but hopefully all of this should help me drift a bit better out at Wakefield in <2 weeks time! Here's the original add for the coilovers: For sale here i have a set of AE86 Front Coilovers 8k spring rate with 40mm RCA's and Adjustable Camber tops. these Coilovers are inverted monotube design. These are from an unknown maker but not a cut and shut job. appear to be very solid and firm, spring rate of around 8k. E.B.N roll centre adapter 40mm Cusco adjustable pillowball upper mount. inserts have some rustand havent been used for a while so i will sell these cheap
  2. It's slowly progressing along. This weekend we fitted the passenger seat and belt (in the hopes that I'll be able to take passengers at the upcoming Matsuri, turns out though due to Wakefield regs I won't be able to until I get a half cage :( ) The dash (or what's left of it) is now back in, and some of the gauges are installed. We tested the wiring and when you try the ignition the starter motor is turning and the lights all seem to work (this is a good sign as it means we hopefully won't have any issues with the electrics). We removed all the glue that was previously holding on the plastic strips on the side. Someone (KENut) got a little enthusiastic with the metho, lol, giving me a number 70 and a stripe on the boot. Along with vandalising the car by making it say "CSexy 70" on the boot, all valid mods to increase the driftspecness :lolcry: I'm still waiting on a surge tank that I order. Once this arrives the pumps and tank can be fitted (a hole has already been put in the boot). We still need to add all the fluids and get an exhaust made. During the next two weeks I need to organise some decent tires for the front (at the moment I'm leaning towards Adrenaline RE002s), for the rear I'll just be burning stockies at Wakefield (since the car is underpowered it'll be best to have something easy to spin/smoke). I ordered a set of coilovers off Rollaclub, which haven't arrived yet. I'm hoping that there was nothing fishy about the purchase and that the delay is merely the courier company being slow... :glare: Couple of pics (once it's all finished I'll have to get some decent shots, similar to some I'd done of friends cars http://craigtregear.smugmug.com/Cars/Canberra-Car-Scene/19708277_tLBXK6#1571387407_9wmCmq5 ):
  3. This sounds very much like the issue I had with my KE55 at one point. When I was going at lower speeds/accelerating there was a huge shudder (felt like someone was behind my seat shaking it), but once I got to a higher speed and was just cruising/rolling it was fine. I drove like this for a while until one day it got really bad then I heard a bang and things just didn't feel right.... Immediately I pulled over to the side of the road and then I realised the bolts connecting the tailshaft to the diff had all come out and it was dragging on the ground; one guess is that when I'd done the 7k conversion a couple of weeks before the bolts hand't been tightened, the other was that the sheer power from going from the 4k to the 7k was more than the stock bolts could handle. I'd suggest checking that these bolts are nice and tight. I'd also check at the mount in the middle of the drive shaft has the bolts in nice and tight.... I also had one of these fall out (that's another story).
  4. Don't think my 55 will be on the road :( I will still be there taking photos though. Will have to hide the Integra outside somewhere :P
  5. Ahahahaha. Seriously though, generally the way the internet works these days is that everything persists forever. The only reason that you would need to delete a post is if an error occurred with your internet connection and somehow you posted it twice. You shouldn't post up things that you don't' want people seeing. One place where I could see threads needing to be deleted is duplicate threads. Often people as a question that is already answered. In these cases it could be worth deleting it. Often though, I think it's probably a better idea to post a link to the post that actually resolves the issue (as if the person had to ask the question a second time they were obviously unable to find the answer, and having a duplicate post that links to the correct answer may help the next person unable to find it). If something is posted up prematurely (ie the original poster hasn't search and later finds a proper answer, it's easy to PM a moderator and get it removed. Another place where I think threads could *possibly* be deleted is on sale threads which have sold. With this said, I think it is good to have an archive of previous sales, as it gives people a view of what has sold in the past, for what prices, what was involved etc. It is quite handy if you are looking at buying a part, stumble across an old thread selling that part and discover (through the replies) that the part isn't a correct fit etc for your purposes. As Philbey asked; is there any reason why you are against users not being able to delete posts? In terms of the advertising... this is necessary. Web hosting isn't free, at the end of the day someone needs to pay for it, and people often take the owners/managers of these kinds of sites for granted (people think that everything on the internet should be free.. because it's on the internet). As a Software Engineer and Information Technology consultant working heavy around the internet, I can tell you that doing things right can often be expensive. Everyone hates ads, but they are needed.

That was my thought too... Trick people into working on my car in exhange for photos. Can't organise it though without his approval (I've suggested it and we'll see what happens).
  7. How about a whole KE55 with worked 7k ;)

How many people/cars do we actually have confirmed? Currently it looks like: JRiftin - KE70 Aladdin_GT - KE70 Sloth - Honda Drifttegra / photographer

I'll be free on Saturday arvo (busy that night though). I don't have any Toyotas on the road at the moment though :(
  10. A friend with an S13 recommend Belconnen Exhaust Centre. I will probably be going to Roadway though in the next few weeks to get mine done (as it's been very highly recommended).
  11. Anyone thinking of doing anything with a 20v should read SamQ's pages, so much awesome info!! (And his trumpets look awesome!!)
  12. Depends what it's out of. If it's another KE70 then yes, otherwise (I'm pretty sure there was a ke35/55 5 speed) it will bolt up fine, but the shifter could be in the wrong location. When putting a KE70 5 speed into a KE55/35 you just cut a hole in the floor and the position is fine, I'm assuming the reverse is true for a KE70. You'll most likely have a KE70 5 speed though if you can find one.
  13. If you need sheer man-power just send me a message on Facebook and I can turn a screw driver/socket wrench (can even bring my own socket set), as for skill I don't have much (any) of that. Don't worry about Marques in the Park. As other have said, if that's the only reason you are taking it to the shop to get it done, don't bother. I think the "learning to do it yourself aspect" is good too. At the end of the day if you take it somewhere it WILL cost you a fortune (and probably at least 50% more than you think it will or want it to). If you are going to take it somewhere, make sure the person know's their shit, knows exactly what the job is, and how to achieve it. I'm sort of in a similar boat (need to have my track car ready by the 25th of November), my main issue is just that I'm lazy :( (haven't even called up to get quotes on exhausts etc yet). Also I'm poor, so I can't buy all of the "nice to haves". At the end of the day, it will be awesome though! You just have to ask your self whether you are doing it for the result or for the journey. I think with modifying cars it has to be a bit of both.
  14. So we got a little more done this weekend... Took out the stock springs and shocks and fitted some Pedders shocks and 6kg AJPS springs, cutting a little off the bump stop. While doing this we replaced the driver side trailing arm as it wasn't really straight.... Removed the mud guards (well what was left of them!) after they had been attacked by the dogs (like the alternator cable). Connected up most of the wiring loom. There are still one or two wires that are left. The car looks so much better now that it is sitting at a more respectable height at the rear. The pictures don't quite show it, but it's fairly low. The old repaired extractors that were previously on the silvertop have been fitted. We tried fitting a couple of different sets (include the big 4-1 I posted pictures of earlier), but they all sat too low (and would scrape once the front is lowered. The strange thing is that the extractors that are too big/long have previously (apparently) been on 86s, obviously the rail/floor is slightly different (the engine must sit higher in the 86). We tried to replace the extension on the oil filter with an AE82(?) oil cooler connection, but while fitting it it snapped :( we have another one (which we may fit to allow me to run a cooler), but if I am using the smaller extractors it's not really required. Pics!!
  15. On the legality side, you can make almost anything legal, all it costs is time and lots of money (lots of it). I'd steer clear of something like an SR20 for your first conversion. Firstly you won't be able to drive it until you are off your Ps and secondly it'll be a bastard of a job and could put you off cars. I'd suggest start simple, build up your skills and get familiar with Corollas, then go for it (if you wanna take the leap and have some mechanical experience and people to help out, feel free to jump in though). The other question you have to ask is "why is someone getting rid of a partially complete project car?". Sometimes people finish projects because they have realised it's cost too much, they have got something better or it could be that they've hit a big roadblock (discovered something unrepairable on the car/engine etc). Before you start a project, take a step back and think about exactly what you are looking to get out of it: experience, a show car, drift car, race car, drag car, street/daily car etc. All of those different projects will have different approaches etc. If you were just building a daily I'd say an SR KE would be a little silly (especially if you've never owned a turbo in a lightweight car). If you are looking at building it as a dedicate race/track car, talk to some of the other SR KE owners, read their build threads and get a sense of whether it's right for what you are after.
  16. I went round to give seabiscuit a hand with some work the other day... it rained :( beer and sausages were consumed in lieu of mechanical work.
  17. If it was a KE70 I'd say it doesn't need brakes (because a 4k can't make enough speed to require anything more than putting your foot out the door to stop the car).
  18. Hahah, I'm going to be in a similar boat with my 55 soon (so let me know what you end up finding fits). Though I'll just be selling it for parts, so if it doesn't have a drivers seat it's probably not the end of the world.
  19. I got the whole package installed in my old 86 by a mechanic a couple of years ago. He did all the hard yards, so I'm a little bit ignorant about what it took to convert it to RWD and put it all in. The ignition is using a coilpack from a 90s Subaru and set up with a Link G4 Storm programmable ECU.
  20. Unfortunately not :( Last weekend was spent at Toyota Fest, this weekend my friend who is helping out (doing most of the work) is away, since the car is stored at his place I can't really do much on it. By the end of this weekend though I'm planing to have designs done for some of the stickers/vinyls and have them sent off to the printers :D

Hahah, mostly for comedic value. Should be a great event though, a lot of the Canberra Car/Drift scene will be present. On another note, entries are open for the next MGCCC Motorkhana. According to one of the organisers it was almost half full after 24 hours.
  22. I'm curious about what sort of stack can damage all the suspension gear but not destroy the shell... My guess is he jumped it, got over a meter of air and came down hard!
  23. Did a bit more work on the 70 last weekend. Got the hydraulic handbrake and all the lines fitted. Added clutch fluid and bled the system. Added an air filter for the idle and fitted the last two trumpets. After some research we started looking into how to mount the air flow sensor and connect up some of the last bits and pieces. There are still some wiring issues to be sorted out as well. We fitted the extractors and discovered that they are touching the oil filter :S Looks like we will need to remove the extension. They also sit really low.... Discovered that one of the lower trailing arms is a bit bent, so I'll need to replace that before I get it on the track. The next step will be to fit the drive shaft, purchase a surge tank, sort out the final wiring issues and fix the clearance issues with the oil filter. I also got in contact with someone regarding some stickers/vinyls... so it will look drift spec soon

That all makes sense Tom. I guess the position is that there is a lot of information online these days, and sometimes if can be hard to find if you don't know where to look (and/or don't know what to ignore/filter out). There's no possible way that everything could be covered, and you make a good point that it would be hard to specify what to even cover. I guess there are two issues. Finding answers to the questions that have been answered a million times already Finding answers to the obscure questions that might have only been answered once Nisrolla/Dave make a good point, there are some very common questions/situations that seem to arise all the time. Making a simple life of common questions could probably solve this. The site already has an FAQ, and this could be leveraged. I think the FAQ/wiki contains a lot of information though, so maybe having a subpage that is "Common Questions" with links to threads answering them would be good. The other issue people face (not necessarily newbies) is finding answers to the really obscure questions. Sometimes things that people take for granted. I've lately been trying to find out specifically what size trumpets I can put onto a silvertop in a KE70 without lots of luck. Sure after wading through some build threads you might see someone say "this size fit" or "this size was too big, without cutting" but it wasn't super easy. The point about it not always being the best way is also extremely valid. But I think the thing that people need to remember (and should never ever forget) is that this is the internet! You can't believe everything (or anything) that you read on the net. You have to take it with a grain of salt, and use it as a guide for making your own decisions etc.

You both make very good points. I definitely understand that people need to at least have some mechanical understanding and should do research. One of the issues that I have seen though is that when researching something obscure all of the things that I find are just posts etc saying "use the search/google" or posts that say "this has already been answered, go here" (which then points to another post with someone just saying use the search/google). Part of this issue is that you end up with one post containing information and 19 posts with people who couldn't find that information asking where it is (and when you do a search you only have a 1/20 chance of actually finding the right information, with the odds decreasing as more people ask questions). I don't have any answers as to who should build or maintain this, I guess it's similar to most other ideas that are suggested on the internet; someone else should do it! Feel free to stop reading now, as I'm going to go on a slightly off topic rant..... /startrant As a Software Engineer and lover of design/abstraction, one of my beliefs is that a lot of the internet is misused (don't get me wrong, I love the internet). I think that forums, blogs, wikis etc generally end up doing a lot more than they were originally designed for and more than they can handle. In my mind forums (like rollaclub) are typically used for four different things, ideally there should be 4 different systems that are used to do this, but everybody likes integrating things. The four things I think forums are generally used for are: Discussion (which type of petrol do you run and why?) Asking/Answering Questions (will a AE86 diff fit in a KE70 with 4AGE/T50?) Displaying information or updates about something (build threads, results of club events) Posting random bits of information (spotted, new members, random pics of cars) While forums can be used for these things I think that some of them are better suited to other sites/methods. I think the types of sites that you would ideally use for these interactions (respectively) are below: Forum (a flowing discussion, not always talking about a single point, involving multiple people, where historical information is important (good to see how things are derived), the comments/responses are important). Question site (eg Stack Overflow style, where there is a single question and single-ish answer, users should be able to easily identify what an answer is and see others comments on why that is valid/invalid, the ability to ignore answers that are wrong/irrelevant is beneficial) Blog (something where the main focus is the information posted up by the original poster and comments are secondary and can be ignored). Twitter, blog (something where you don't car too much about historical information). I think that a lot of posts just ad lots of noise and very little information, eg; "Sweet car bro!". It's nice to get feedback but if you post up a build/conversion/discussion thread and 80% of the posts are someone saying "Sweet car bro!" the information can get lost. That's just my general belief on the internet as a whole (not just or specifically rollaclub). If anyone wants to hear me rant about it more outside of this thread feel free to send me a PM. /endrant
