  1. As for the diff it really depends what diff is in the car, check then take a look at the guide: http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Differential_Gears As for the engine I'd say, most likely, but look into ti first eg apparently the mounts are different, but you could probably just use the ones from the 55, the engine itself should be the same http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/Mounts http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/Blocks EDIT: If you have already searched those and believe that they say you can and you are just seeking confirmation, say that "I have read the FAQ and various other sources and determined that xxxx is possible, but would like to clarify this, has any one does this exact/specific conversion before or can anyone confirm my findings."
  2. Yes, pretty sure I saw some go up in the for sale section. There are always rollas for sale in SA. The question you should ask is whether a rolla matching what you want (which you haven't stated) is for sale. Do you want something stock? Dedicated track? Drifter? Granny spec? Project? Shell? V6? Rocket Engine? etc
  3. Awesome stuff, can't wait to see it at the next event.
  4. When I put the 5 speed KE70 box in my 55 it was fine (needed to cut the hole, but it didn't interfere with the handbrake. Just remember that you need to chage/look at the clutch if you are going to use the box that came with the 5k
  5. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/49536-does-the-k50-dominate-the-k40/ Some of the responses say: 1st: 3.789 2nd: 2.220 3rd: 1.435 4th: 1.00 5th on the 5 speed is 0.865 And: Later (KE70) 4speeds and 5speeds are the same. The 5th is an overdrive gear stuck on the back outside the gearbox itself. 5th is nice on the open road, it just drops the revs a few hundred at 100kph. As soon as the revs hit 3000rpm going up a hill its time for 4th. The earlier 4speed had a 2nd and 3rd closer to 4th, which would also be nice. 2nd is 2.022 and third is 1.384 One day I'd like to take the internals of an early box and stick it all inside a 5speed. The diff ratio affects cruising speed also. I'm using an auto diff at 4.3, the manual runs a 4.1 So mine is quite perky around town but revs a bit higher on the open road.
  6. Off the top of my head I think I read on here that the only different between the K40 and K50 is the 5th gear (all the other ratios are the same). I could be completely wrong though. Feel free to correct me someone.
  7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_supercharger Is that something along the lines of what you were originally thinking? A supercharger driven from an electric motor?
  8. I think the moral of the story is if you want an 86, get used to the stock 4ac or make it a track car
  9. Link is broken :( has ... in it :bash:
  10. There are also other gotchas and hurdles you'll face if you go with one of the more exotic flavours of 4AGE (ie 20v, ZE, T).
  11. Welcome to the forums. I'm sure you will get your initiation of flaming quite shortly. Couple of tips (say this to everyone considering a conversion), once you work out how much you think it will cost, double it, then add 50% :laff: Nextly, being on your Ps you probably can't legally do an engine conversion (even just a 4AGE in a AE86, as it wasn't a factory available option here), I'm not a professional though, so don't take my word on that (you'll need to see what your local road authority says). The 86s are a fun car, though usually overpriced for a stock one. You can save a lot by buying a modified one, but then it is almost certainly not legal (especially for a P plater). One thing I can tell you though is that (while the 4AC in them is pretty shit), it's still not too bad for the car. When I first got my old 86 it actually drove ok with the 4ac (and was leaking oil and had done over 550,000 kms). I wouldn't start modifying your first car as soon as you get your Ps, get used to drive on the road (there's a lot of dickheads out there), then once you are ready (and need it) consider an engine change, modifications etc.
  12. If you send the pics I can give it a go.
  13. Since the 20v was in an 86 previously a lot of the hard work has already been done (converting the engine to RWD, wiring etc). But there is still lots of stuff that needs to be done (playing round with crossmembers, diffs, suspension/steering, fuel line etc). Stay tuned!
  14. Nah, the 5k only had a k40, but that was sold of with the engine. Back a couple of years ago when we were looking for the k50 for my ke55 they were a little tricky to come by, in the end we ended up finding one in a ke30 with a 7k attached :) I guess you just have to keep you eyes open...
  15. :bash: Talk to a local engineer or your road authority..... oh wait... I see what you did there! lol :laff: That thing is awesome! According to the site it weighs 400kgs (which for 130hp is pretty good).
  16. Yeah I'm trying to hold back with my Integra, though part of me just wants to go crazy and body kit it, at a spoiler, wheels etc.
  17. It'll get there :) Can't wait to see how it progresses. Welcome to the world of front wheel drive!
  18. Stripping The AE86 Yesterday we stripped the last of the bits from the AE86. Luckily Bob and KENut dropped by to get me a J Riftin a hand. Basically everything that we could take off we did (as long as it wasn't too badly damage), this included a mountain of trim, taillights, front crossmember/suspension, rear suspension, exhaust, etc etc. By the time we were finished it was basically just a shell. It was a little sad to see the old girl like that, especially when we rolled her onto her side to help us get better access to parts. The shell will be towed away over the next couple of days. Thus ends the story of the mighty 86 :( I'm going to keep looking ahead and moving on, but all always remember the good times. Lots of little bits and pieces will go onto the 70, become spares for J Riftin and Bob or be sold/thrown away. Some of the bits and pieces aren't usable anymore due to the damage; the steering rack is probably screwed (and it's not worth risking it) and when we got the car on it's side we realised that the diff/axel is actually bent. Since the S series diff was bent we will have to look at something else for the KE70 (probably a T series, which will require a different tailshaft). Over the next couple of weeks we will start prepping the KE70 to receive the engine and fitting various parts. There are also a couple of spots on the 70 that will probably be spot welded (to give the car some extra rigidity). We well also have to do the hydraulic clutch/pedal box conversion, source some extractors for the 20v and some trumpet/velocity stacks. It's all slowly moving along. Mad camber!!
  19. I've been a little slack and forgot to post the progress from last week, so this week I'll do two posts this week... Engine Out Of KE70 Two weeks ago we took the 5k out of the KE70. It all went relatively smooth. We were smart enough this time to start early, so we didn't end up working in the dark. When we drained the water from the radiator it was as you would expect the water from an engine that hadn't run in quite a while to be.. quite dirty. The pipe from the heater core basically shredded itself as we disconnected the hose. The 5k has now been sold of to some local member who are going to clean it up and put it into their KE55  As you would expect the front of the car is sitting even higher now... and it's so like that J Riftin was able to lift the front wheel off clear off the ground.
  20. Squint and use your imagination.... :P This will give you something to imagine until someone who can actually use photoshop can be bothered (I could photoshop up a model, but car stuff I can't do, also it's easier to change colours than play around with metal/black and white).
  21. 1jz engine?.... no shit! Seriously though, I thought this thread would have received a lot more flaming (was looking for a good laugh). I think it's possible to put anything into anything, all it takes it time, money, effort etc. I thought that the limit of what you could put in a KE was 2.4 litres (hence it would be more "tricky" to get a 2.5 JZ legally in). I can't remember where I read that though (and I guess it also depends on the state etc). The issue I'd assuming that you'd have though with a JZ in a KE3x would be the same as putting a v6 in there, or a JZ in an AE86.... the lead tipped arrow. When you start to mess around with weight like that it can seriously impair the handling (or so I've heard). If you want to go straight though or have power it would probably be a monster. EDIT: to back up my claim of "you can put anything into anything", I've seen a Mini and MR2 with jet engines and pretty sure I've seen a go-kart with a k engine...
  22. That's one clean looking KE! @TE278U There used to be a yellow KE cruising around in Melbourne... Kangaroosa from these forums (could be the one you are thinking of). I get super paranoid whenever there are police around, even though I'm not doing anything dodgy (think I watched "The Fugitive" when I was too young and am now paranoid about being convicted for a crime I didn't commit). I got pulled over at the booze bus in Melbourne back when I was on my Ls... second ever time I'd driven (the first was in a car park and then just home). I was driving a manual Tarago (terrible car) and was certain I was going to drive over all the cones, hit a police car and then stall (luckily I didn't).
  23. One thing to remember is that the KE3x didn't have side intrusion bars, yet the KE5xs (or at least some of them) did.
  24. I have a Link G4 Storm running my N/A 20 Silvertop. Seems to do the trick (deals with VVT etc). But as everyone said, one of the biggest things is having someone that can tune that particular ECU and has the appropriate software/cables etc. The software for the Links is just available online, so I just took in my laptop last time with the software on (though the mechanic doing the tune had previously had experience with the Links).
