I've got the 20v silvertop in mine running aftermarket ECU (Link G4 Storm) and custom exhaust, but it makes no where near as much power as it should (like 73rwkw). With that said though the car drives fine on the road. It's not the fastest car, even if I take of at the lights I don't end up miles ahead of people, but for a street car the power is fine. It's fairly even and smooth. I'm not really planning to do much more to the engine. All I will really do is put on some trumpets. Over time I might try and hunt down some of the missing wasps, but at the end of the day its fine for the road. I'll try to get some close up pictures of the rear and how it sits for you (I am also very lazy).

I hope my 86 looks this good one day. i just put new rear springs on mine and it's made the back fairly low (it was already a little lower before, had half a coil cut from the stock springs) but it still seems ok to me.

I occasionally need the choke for the twin SUs on my 7k (usually just if it hasn't been started in a couple of days/weeks).

January Photo Shoot I'm a bit of an amateur photographer, and every now and then I go out with another photographer friend and take photos around Canberra, the skidpan or Wakefield. Here are some pictures I got of my Sprinter in January (apologies for the large size).

New Rear Springs The person who sold me the wheels also offered to sell me his old rear springs nice and cheap (as he was putting in electronically adjustable suspension). The springs are AJPS 6kg springs and they are now fitted to my 86. You can see the change in the ride height (it's fairly low at the rear). Hopefully soon I'll order a matching set for the front. Since the main focus of the car is just as a daily and not a full track car, I'm not going to go too over the top (replacing everything with fancy coilovers etc). While we were installing the springs we discovered that the rubber boot was missing from the drivers side spring (the spring was just rubbing against the metal). This might account for some of the weird creaks and moans I've heard while driving (as I no longer hear them). The car just seems a little less floaty at the back with the new springs and feels a little more in control at the back. Old spring (with half a coil cut out) on the left, new spring on the right Car up on stands Old drivers side spring (missing rubber boot) New spring installed on passenger side New (current) ride height (you can see the back is fairly low, the angle of the picture makes it look a little worse though)

New Wheels and Tyres After the car couldn't grip at Marulan it was finally time to get some tyres (with the help of my christmas bonus). I put some second hand tyres on the rear that I got at the same time as the wheels (they are still basically brand new) and got some new Federals for the front (nothing too fancy, but anything was better than I had). With the new rims on the car looks awesome! I celebrated by doing lots of driving on them (drove to Melbourne and back) and taking lots of photos.

I know what you mean, but for someone like me who can't do any mechanical work themselves (for various reasons), even just a shit dedicated track car would cost at least 10k, then I you have to either have it registered (another 1k a year) or hire a trailer and a car to tow the trailer for each day (probably about 500-600 each time). Spending 12-20k on a track car that I might get on the track at most 4 times a year seems like a bit of a waste just for a little bit of fun (I'm a terrible driver and couldn't do motorsport as a full time hobby due to my intense shitness).

Just cause you can afford to buy and mod one car doesn't mean you can afford two (or to crash them).

For the past three years at work I've been parking my car in a dirt carpark that (while not technically secure) is private property and completely fenced (so people aren't randomly walking past), my work is also a little out of the way and so there's isn't a lot (or really any) foot traffic. At the start of Feb though I start a new job and will have to park my AE86 in the spaces out the front of the building. There are several other businesses around and the area is much busier than where I currently work. I'm trying to determine which would be the best way to stop someone quickly smashing a window and trying to steal the car, either a steering lock or removing the wheel. I guess like most security measures it's more of a deterrent. I just got a steering lock for free from a friend and also got a Nardi wheel off him. Because of the insane dish on AE86 steering wheels I will either need to use a standard boss and a quick release hub (as a spacer) or find one of the long boss hubs. I'm assuming that putting a steering lock on a wheel with a quick release hub will still have the same effect (they could take the wheel off but still won't be able to get the car anywhere. Any thoughts?

My KE55 is blue with silver stripes (see avatar picture <--) and the engine bay is sprayed with chrome spraypaint. The car was just sitting around at my dads place one day with no engine and he decided it would be a good idea. I like it, it's a little different and it really sets of the engine (which has a red block). My cars a bit ricey though, and many people don't quite like it (not a good idea if you are going for period correctness/subtlety).

I'm pretty sure we got my SUs rebuilt by South East carbies in Dandenong, they were great at managing to fit it in so we could get the car on the road. We had the wrong needles though, so I took it to Powerplay Automotive in Mentone (or Chetenham, somewhere in that area) and they dyno tuned it, found the right needles and fixed some other little problems, when it drove out it was basically a different car. All this was about 3-5 years ago though so I don't know who's still kicking around these days.

I just got reminded of something I saw on A Current Affair a couple of years ago, some dude was importing this thing that you stuck onto the side of the engine (or fuel tank or something) that was suppose to do something magical (like ionise the petrol) and give you better fuel efficiency.

Mmmm twin charge, best of both worlds. Always wondered why this isn't more common.

I've gone to the past two and they haven't minded. Spots usually fill up pretty quick, I've mentioned your name, once its all sorted you basically have to secure your spot by paying the organiser. At the moment he's trying to organise 13/03/2011.

Sol from NissanSilvia is looking at organising one a skidpan day... gogogogoog! http://www.evotuned.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=474739

I'm starting to suss out what I need to do to get my CAMs licence (or whether it's just worth getting daily licences) and what types of events I can enter in in my car. Will also have to get out on the skidpan again soon. I think I know enough people right now who are keen for a session, might have to chat with Fifth Gear, see what dates are available and start organising people, or get the person from NissanSilvia.com who usually does it to.

Got a couple of pics from Summernats (700 or so). Was my first year, was an interesting car show, quite different to anything I'd been to before. There was a couple of rollas cruising around the circuit (with crazy supercharged engines). Got to see some of the amazing effort people had put into their cars (might post a couple of pics of some of the cool cars and burnouts) and some of the low points of bogan culture (I probably won't be able to post these pictures...). Overall though had a blast. Then on Sunday I went to Wakefield for the drift day being run by Initial Drift Australia. Unfortunately wasn't driving (just taking photos). The weather was shocking (as Wakefield always is) it was raining and windy, but there was some good drifting to watch. The rain was a little discouraging, so I think I got there around 11:15 and stayed till just before 3. Might have to try the 86 out there next time :)

What Way Is Easiest To Pull A 4K Out?
Sloth replied to CodyTravers's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Last time I did an engine change personally we used a 10 tonne industrial crane to take the engine out and a forklift whenever we needed to list the car  Though all the other times the engine was removed it was removed without the gearbox. (The time we took it out attached we were swapping the engine and boxes of two cars completely). I think if you are taking the gearbox out too you need to make sure there is enough room under the car for it to pivot (meaning if you are just doing it with the car sitting on the ground in the garage I think it won't work). NOTE: When taking the engine out with the gearbox attached, remember to plug the hole at the back where the tailshaft connects.... or else you'll end up with oil everywhere :bash: -
I've got a 7k in my KE55 running twin SUs (I think they are 2s but they could be 1 3/4). My SUs originally came off a Dollamite Triumph. I believe we got our manifold from Lynx (was relatively cheap and seems to be the go for twin SU conversions). It's got solid lifters too, but the decision to use them over the hydros was made by my dad and all the work done by a mechanic, so I can't really shed any light onto that one (though judging from some recent posts there are many people here who feel hydros are fine and that you don't really gain anything going to solids). The flywheel was also lightened, but for the life of me I can't remember how light it now is (7kg or 9kg). Sorry that none of this actually helps, but hopefully it shows you are on the right track and you aren't doing something that's never been done before.

LOL 86s are a really fun car though, I absolutely love mine.
-
Just be careful, 86s always end up costing more than you think. I picked up mine for 2k and now I've spent.... well lets just say a lot, and there is much more I still want to do. Make sure you make a budget and stick to it.
