  1. Awesome! As soon as I get back from Thailiand I wanna hit the pan again. After the NissanSilvia skidpan day I did earlier this year I was going to post up a thread on there titled "Show us your D-face" as I got some hilarious pictures of peoples expressions as they were driving around.
  2. Dibs on your 86 wiper switch! Mine is broken (cracked on the inside) and the knob snapped in half.
  3. The trick is for the rust to make sections of the car fall off at the entry or prior to the apex of the turn. This causes the car to undergo a weight shift, helping with the initiation of the drift. It's all just maths and physics.
  4. Corollas without aircon are basically just steel saunas on wheels in summer.
  5. I think I'm one of those kids (I have neons on/in my KE55), but I did get some good lolz at that Commonwhore.
  6. LOL @ Overnight parts from Japan.
  7. Hehe, yeah there is always CCG. Only been to one of their events and haven't been active with them yet. I've been active in Rollaclub forums for a while and AE86 (and have some merch too :lolcry:). I think I'll keep the sprinter stripeless for now :lolcry: Once I get some more cash she'll get a makeover, but that won't be for a while.
  8. I'll be there in the Hachi Roku, gotta decide which group to go with though :lolcry: AE86DC or Rollaclub If I go with AE86 my car won't look as good by comparison, but if I go with Rollaclub people will call it a Corolla and get distracted by the KE20 :lolcry: I don't have the stripes this time to lure over the kiddies.
  9. No probs, was about to post it myself. Originally we were going to go all blue with a black bonnet, but the blue looked so good that a mat black bonnet would've spoilt it. We were a little short on paint, and the spray painter was a huge ford fan, so we ended up going with a Cobra inspired scheme. Below the doors on mine is also painted silver (I have some more pics of the car in an album on here). My stripes are a little less discrete than they could, but make the car quite memorable and unique. If you are going to paint the stripes on (instead of some of the pin striping tape you get) make sure you mask it out properly. There's a couple of points on mine where the tape wasn't stuck down properly and there's a little over spray. It's amazing how much better a subtle little stripe can make the car look. I still have the crappy plastic striping on my AE86 which I will take off one of these days, once it's gone I think the car will look 100x better. My car (KE35) had plastic striping and it looked so much better once it was off. All depends on the car, colour and style you are going for.
  10. I agree with JDM, $4000 might seem like a lot (when you think you can pick up an engine for 1-2k) but when you start to factor in all the little things, the engineer and a dyno tune at the end it starts growing dramatically. Make sure you aren't in a rush and you do your homework before starting (read other peoples build threads etc). I recently had a 4AGE Silvtertop put into my AE86 and there were a couple of little hiccups that I and the mechanic didn't know about at the start. You also need to look at what you want to get out of it, do you just want something that is drivable on the road, do you want a race car etc. I have a 7k in my KE55 and it goes quite alright. I think you will be quite happy with any of those options.
  11. Nice to see you following the scientific method Trev :blinks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method The last step is Retest, so if anyone else wants to challenge the results feel free to reproduce the test. I think what we need to do now is produce some graphs and come up with some crazy theory that is proved by the results, like not driving Rollas causes cancer.
  12. All of the things add up, as most people said you need more than just the engine etc. One thing to keep in mind (as you said you wanted it legal) is that you will (probably) need to get it engineered. Check with your local RTA to see exactly what needs to be done, but from what I hear most engineers certificates are at least $500-$1000, so remember to factor that into your budget. Nothing sucks more than getting right to the end of a project right on budget only to realise there is one more giant expense.
  13. It depends how much you do yourself. I recently got a silvtertop put into my AE86 and it cost a fortune. The problem is people don't think about the labour and all the little things, sure you can pick up an engine and loom cheap, but then you need all the bits and bobs, new radiator, this and that, and it gets quite expensive. I was quoted roughly 5-7kish from ToyoSpares in Melbourne for a 4age conversion, drive in/drive out no exhaust(probably one of the places e70van is referring to). In the end I payed a lot more than that, I think 10-15 is reasonable if you are talking about getting it done by someone else. If you are doing it yourself it's potentially just the cost of the motor and one or two little things, or you can always slowly steal them from pick a part over three years (know people who have tried this approach cause they were poor and trying to do a conversion out of their price range and it always never got finished).
  14. I love being told my car/engine doesn't exist. I've had lots of confusion when I've told people exactly what I have (Saying AE86 SR5 confuses people a lot).
  15. ZOMG!!! OMW to the wreckers now to buy some wheels that big for my 55..... I will call it a Corollux! Or maybe a Hi-Rolla (I think that sounds more pimp)
  16. Looks awesome, got the whole duality thing happening on your nature strip! Love it!
  17. Being a young chap myself I was in a similar boat a couple of years ago. I started with a stock KE35 that was falling apart and barely ran, got an old KE55 and resprayed. Then over time (several years) we started replacing things; dropped in a 7k, sports seats and wheel, neons, custom dash and other things here and there. My advice would be not to rush it, take your time and do it (semi) right. By that I mean don't go out next week and start buying a 4AGE and turbo and some king springs then not have any money left to actually install it (One of my mates was working on an SR20 bluebird swap for about 3 years which never got finished cause he was too poor). On the other hand, don't just give up or spend 10 years saving up for something; do some research (like you are now) and set some realistic goals. Also remember this is (probably?) your first car so in 6 months or a years time you might find you don't like rollas (don't know why you wouldn't, they are awesome :D) and you also have to be prepared for the harsh fact that (almost) everyone has some sort of accident in their first car (so don't bother fitting a fully sik body kit till after that :P ). Most of all have fun! And remember that it's your car so in the end do what you want.
  18. Congrats on the find, body looks nice and straight. How does she run? Any plans?
  19. As I said, ran it on two different dynos, 67.8 on the first 67.3 on the second. Some of the power issues have been discussed here: http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/s...ean-and-Pinging @GJM85 - let us never speak of the financials behind my AE86 or I may just cry  There is definitely something not quite right with mine. Chart from first dyno run Air/Fuel chart Second dyno run
  20. I only get 67.3 RWKW out of my 20v Silvertop. Still needs a couple of things done here and there (new cam belt, tyres). The people who have dyno'd it (two different places on two different occassions) didn't seem to think that it was making too little power. Everyone else though has disagreed and at the CCG dyno day people were saying "I would't be happy if I was making any less than 90RWKW out of that engine". I'm hoping once I take it in for a tune, replaced the cam belt, get the timing checked, put on new tyres (with grip) and take the socks off that I'll get some of my lost 20KW back.
  21. I was originally looking at putting a set of 16 inch Rotas on my AE86. I know nothing about the quality of the wheels etc, so I was just going to put them on cause they were going to be cheapish and looked good. Like people have said, at the end of the day it just comes down to what you like (as long as what you are putting on there isn't such bad quality it falls apart or is broken).
  22. My KE55 shell is slowly rusting away, so I'll have a 7k lying around eventually, lol.
  23. Watch too much TV Play too many computer games Pitch and Putt Rollaclub Dream about having more money Watch AE86 videos and wish I could get on the track in mine Little bit of photography now and then Procrastinate doing work on creating websites/webapps and programming Hopefully soon shooting.
  24. I had a look last year at Idealseat (the Victorian reseller for Recaro) and I think off the top of my head they charged about 200-500 per seat to get the rails made up (but I'm assuming that was when you bought a seat through them), so I guess the $1000 sort of makes sense... When I fitted a Sparco seat to my 55 I just got 2 metal strips, bolted the strips to the old rails and the seat to the strips. For the FTO seats I've got in my AE86 my mechanic modified the 86 rails to fit the seats, not sure how long it took (was mixed in with the bill for other work on the car) but it would've been a couple of hundred (under 500). If you know exactly what seat you wanna put in have a search around and you might be able to find someone that has done it before.
