If you are going to turbo a Silvertop I'm pretty sure there is a couple of things you need to do to the internals (change compression, replace with some 4AGZE parts etc). I'm sure there is a guide kicking around if you do a quick google (if not there is probably some on SamQs site). Worth taking a quick look at now, just so you know that it's not a simple bolt on when you get to it later

I reckon the teks. I didn't used to be a fan of meshies, although now I have two (only two ) old Volk meshies sitting in my garage and they have really grown on me. But I think the teks would probably look better on your ride than the meshies.

Finally a small RWD car! Shame (like most awesome concepts), it'll probably never hit the streets (or will be completely molested by then to be more "affordable" etc). New Supras would be interesting to....

Brick under the accelerator pedal.

This is awesome! My gfs excel is sitting in the garage at the moment, I'm sure she won't mind if I drop a V6 in there.

When the AE86 broke down a couple of weeks/months ago on William Hovel I signed up to NRMA to get it towed (and just so I had the cover in case something else happened in the future). The guy driving the truck that picked me up said they were quite busy in the ACT and had several trucks going flat out 7 days a week (there's always cars on the side of WillamHovel).

I second that. You don't need a lot of power for a nice ride that you can still have fun with. Both of my cars(KE55 and AE86) have had less than 70rwkw (and that was after the engine changes), even before (when I was running the stock 4k and 4AC respectively) they still had enough power to get me around and have a little bit of fun when I needed it. Grats on the find! It's good to see old rollas in good condition going to people who will respect them and not getting crushed or thrashed. My other suggestion is to be aware that when you do bodywork or make a car look nice there is always a chance some idiot will drive into you (or you would do something silly, but all Rollaclub members are responsible  ). When I got my KE55 painted we sanded it all back, cut out rust, sprayed it in awesome PPG paint and then 3 months later (1 month after having it registered) a truck hit my rear drivers side wheel arch. Just to prepare you, there's a lot of idiots out on the road. (Getting a little off topic now, but I was driving home the other night with a camera attached to the bumper of me 86 and in the space of 30 seconds had two cars pull out in front of me from separate roads, for one of them I had to slam on the brakes and lock up the wheels, all caught on camera)

I've been meaning to do a run down Coppins Crossing road with cameras on the car to get some video footage. I drove up Black Mountain two weeks ago at night, in the rain in my fogged up Sprinter, that was fun.

@Philby - I'm not staring directly into the light (as they are tucked well under the foot wells), it just sort of gives an ambient glow. I don't know exactly why it seems to help with driving at night, I think though it's because my eyes adjust because of the extra light, and so I don't get blinded by oncoming headlights etc. Other people might feel differently, Also seems to keep me awake a little bit (as I can't sleep when there is light). Nah that's the right way around. Momo wheel I got brand new, including boss and the seat I got second hand... from a guy I met one night in a maccas car park after 12 (wasn't quite as suss as it sounds, he used to own a V8 KE35, but had to sell it as his partner was having a baby and they needed something more sensible, so he put the original seat back in and had the spare sparco lying around). Next time I'm in the same state as the car I'll get some pics of my ricey interior etc and post them up, will be interesting to see all the disgusted replies from RC members.

All my cars seem to be stuck in the rusty car/shell stage, even after they are finished. Pics look nice as though.

Had something like this in my 55 just after we did the engine change, although it was the opposite, the shudder was at low speeds (initially only starting and stopping but at the end up to almost 30-40km/h). In my case it turned out at the bolts connecting the driveshaft to the diff hadn't been tightened (or had come loose), resulted in my driveshaft falling off at 40km/h on the way to work on day. Don't know if this helps, but could be something to check. In my case it was more the car shaking than the steering, can you only feel it through the wheel?

If all else fails, turn it into a piece of artwork. There was a house around the corner from where I used to live that had (what I think was) a camshaft from a truck engine as the talk for the mailbox.

Did yours have one stock, or was the mirror that was on there an after market one? If it wasn't stock then I believe that you don't legally have to have one on there (I personally barely use the passenger side mirror, but then I'm a terrible driver and terrible at parking). EDIT: As you can see in my pic <<<---- there is no passenger mirror.

Which Tyres Would You Recommend For A Ke55??
Sloth replied to jackbyo's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Started off with Regattas on my KE55 lasted me for almost 4 years, only replaced them cause one blew on a 40+ degree day after I'd been driving (quite fast) for a couple of hours. Now I have Hankook Optimos on there, haven't really had any issues. Took it on the track laster year and they seemed ok... -
New carpet and underlay for the KE55 cost me less than $150, couple of cans of black vinyl spray, $50 seat covers from Kmart and it was all set for my first few years of driving. I added $40 worth of neons in the foot wells (for a bit of wank factor but it also helps me drive at night) and my dad covered part of the dash in blue plastic. Later on I got a Momo wheel for $500 and a Sparco fixed back seat for $100. Just replacing the carpet (or giving it a really good vacuum if it's in good condition) and re-spraying all the plastic black can do wonders.

I picked one up for $50 from Jaycar (they have even cheaper ones, but the one around $50 looked like the best without looking like it was going to break). I had some issues with my headlights in my AE86 a while ago, turned out to be a lose wire in the stalk/steering column that was coming off the switch in there. When I had issues with the low beams on my KE55 it was the actual headlight itself that had died (the left low beam didn't work, but the highbeam did if I remember correctly).

I'm not an authority on this, but from what I've heard you can sell a defected car without any problems, but it will get to have RWC done before you can register it (as you would with any car) and I think the defects will travel with the car. You'd have to make sure that you are advertising that it doesn't have a RWC (and is "defected"), if you are buying a car that doesn't have a RWC you have to remember that it'll sometimes take more money than you think to get it raodworthy. If you don't have a RWC you can't sell it with registration, you are basically just selling the physical car and the other person can't transferr the rego, so basically the rego should be cancelled before sale (but you can always do a dodgy if you are buying/selling and make it the responsibility of the buyer to get the RWC for registration, but that's not the way it's supposed to work).

Daily, usually at least twice. Get up in the morning and check the RSS feeds and notifications while I have breakfast.

:P :bash: It's all good. I get that a bit, hehehe. Like I said there is also red fixed back sparco race seat.... I also have neons in the footwells, undercar neons and washer LEDs (that flash in time with the indicators) that complete the look, LOL. I'm a bit of a try hard ricer at heart so I love it, but I understand the look isn't for everyone and it always bring a bit of joy whenever I see someone shaking their head in disapprovement. The checkerplate was done by my dad one day (as were the washer neons) when I left the car at his house and he was bored. He also resprayed the engine bay chrome. We are both people who don't like to take life too seriously. On a sidenote though, the neons in the footwells actually help me when driving at night (having all the extra light adjusts your eyes so that you don't get blinded by headlights).

I have a red momo trek on my KE55. The 55 is blue with silver stripes, but the engine block is red and my sparco seat is red so I got a red wheel. I think it looks a little toolish, but I love it. I've also got blue plastic checker-plate on my dash, so it sorta gives it that ricer feel. Love the feel of it much more than the KE55 wheel that was covered in 30 years of gunk and I think because it's leather and a little thicker it doesn't heat up so much on hot days. I agree with Oh-KE, it's your car, do what you like :P

When we put the twin SUs on my 55 we ran an electric fuel pump and inline regulator (like everyone as mentioned). We got the manifold, linages and ramflo air filters from Lynx in Sydney (I did a quick google and I think this is their site http://www.lynxcorp.com.au/main.php?idx=home). My dad ordered the parts and apparently he was able to get them to knock a little off the price (although this was 4 or 5 years ago now). We had some issues with the fuel pumps when we first installed them. The first model we tried was a square shaped one, and we ended up going through two or three of them (seemed to die on hot summer days and I think one time when I only had about 5 litres left in the tank). After we went to one that is more cylindrical shape and haven't had any problems since. I don't know what the difference is, or what the different styles/models/brands are, maybe someone else who knows more can shed some more light on it.
-
When I had carby issues with my twin SUs it turned out that we were using the wrong sized needles (someone else on here had a similar problem not too long ago). I know nothing about this sort of stuff, but if you post up what sized carby you are running (if it's not the stock one from that car/engine) somebody smarter than me might be able to tell you what parts you need.
-
I got new ones for about $50-$60 each from Autobarn. If you tell them the make/model of the car they should be able to hook you up (had to order mine in). Combine that with a set of nice new globes and you should be able to notice the difference. With that said, when I put the new set on my KE55 I did notice it was a lot brighter and I could see heaps better, but it was still nothing in comparison to some of the newer cars at night.

I agree with corollaart, making a daily/drift car will result in a car that's either illegal, or one that doesn't drift as well as a purpose built drift car (because of the compromises you have to make to keep it legal). Plus if you manage to get crazy power out of it it'll probably become un-drivable on the road. My previous housemate has a 228kw S13 (with modded suspension and diff) which he has basically had to stop driving on the road cause there is just too much power (and it's impossible to drive on the road in the wet).
