  1. Happy birthday chappo (35 minutes to spare). I didn't end up going, gfs dad was in town so we were looking after him. Will try to go to another in the future, and quite keen to get back on the skid pan or track soon.
  2. I've heard various tidbits here and there, don't know how much of it is true though. I've heard that you aren't allowed to import anything older than 10 (or maybe 20) years, meaning most of the old s13s, 86s etc can't be brought over. I've heard that if it wasn't sold in australia you need a compliance plate/engineers certificate, probably only if the model wasn't actually sold in Australia though (for example you are only able to get one engine size with the new Evo X in Australia, but there are two or three larger capacities available around the world). With that said I don't think it's impossible and as everyone has said, ask an actual importer. I used to work with a guy who's dad was an importer. Him and his dad imported an oldschool Camaro (or something like that) and got it registered (even though it was left hand drive). So I guess anything is possible.
  3. Hmmm... my Silvertop 4AGE makes less power than that, but more torque.... 68rwkw 353rwnm
  4. Just spotted a light blue KE55 (or maybe 35.. I think all the old KEs are 55s :blinks: ) leaving Belconnen Mall just after 11. It was dumped on it's ass, had a nice burble from the exhaust, big sticker on the back windows, I think it had mags and it had an aura of power to it.
  5. I stand corrected :blinks:
  6. I'm going to issue the standard "use the search functionality", as I'm pretty sure someone posted this up earlier this week or last week (it could've been on AE86DC). I'm pretty sure though that the answer was no and that they were different sizes, but don't quote me on that,
  7. I love the Takumi Tax  luckily I didn't have to pay much Takumi tax on my 86. It's a shame that you can't pick up a decent KE to learn in these days (ie one that has been around but still doesn't have too much rust). I learnt in a KE35 and it was great. The car had no guts at all, but it was still a cool little car. I don't know if there are any decent RWD cars you could get as a first "learn to drive in" car, so FWD is probably the way to go.
  8. I was thinking about going to check it out. Sprinters not quite ready to enter yet though, want to put on new tyres and strut brace before I put her through her paces.
  9. I think the R31 bumper looked tough as. Are you going to put the mirrors back on the front guards? I think it makes the car look like a classy classic.
  10. Tacho Before hitting the skidpan I decided I should install a tacho. I thought that this would be pretty simple to install (only 4 wires and two holes to bolt it in) but as usual my terrible electrical/mechanical proved this was not the case. After spending way to long installing it I took it for a test drive and everything looked good.... until I tried to use my indicators ;) I returned home, and pulled the whole dash apart again (for about the third or forth time that day) trying to find the source of the broken indicators. After searching for another 20 minutes I found what was wrong... The switch for the hazard lights is broken and when switched on shorts out the indicators, stopping them from working... but I guess that is a problem for another day :D Tacho installed on the steering column The mess of wires inside the steering column and behind the dash
  11. Yeah I took the KE55 out on Marulan last year. The AE86 isn't quite ready for Marulan or Wakie yet. Before I take it out there I want to put on a strut brace and new wheels and tyres (and probably a drift charm ;) )
  12. Had a very similar problem with the Twin SUs on my 7K when I first put it in (except I got problems with I opened up the throttle, but it was ok when not open too much). Turned out (like Felix suggested) the the needles were wrong (and it need a little machining). Everyone that has seen the twin SUs have commented that they are a pain cause they get out of tune with each other so easily, but I've never really had any problems on mine yet.
  13. I had a very similar problem a couple of weeks ago with my AE86, like you we tested all three prongs of the headlights and all showed voltage. My gfs dad (who is an electrician) was quite confused saying that was wrong. A little bit of research though told me that toyota do something a little wierd with their wiring by having a constant positive voltage and adding a negative/earth to turn the lights on. The problem in my case (as other people have suggested) was the combination/dimmer switch. This should be located on the stalk (steering column). It's definitely worth a look. Before you removed the negative relay was it clicking when you put on the highbeams? If it was then it's not actually the problem, it's in the switching mechanism. If you are savvy with electrics etc, see if you can get the wiring diagram for your car, or just take a look at the switch in the steering column. (Take a look at the forth page of my project thread near the bottom http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...4331&st=45) [Edit: Just thought I'd add that I suck at anything mechanical/electrical, so take everything I say with a grain of salt]
  14. <-- This explains it "Dude I almost had you!" "You almost had me? You never had me!"
  15. I'm pretty sure the 7k in my KE55 is running a 3k sump... It was already on there when we got it though.
  16. It also depends on the dyno.. When I got my 20v dyno'd it got a lot lower than I thought it would. One of the guys from the dyno said that each one will give a different reading (and the one I went to reads quite low). The only way to really know it to get it done at a different place for comparison, or compare it with another cars figures from the same dyno.
  17. Skid Pan With the new Silvertop in and everything running smoothly it was time to see what the 86 was capable of. I managed to tag along with some of the guys from www.NissanSilvia.com and visit the skid pan at Sutton Road Driver Training Center (with Fifth Gear Motoring). After taking the KE55 out at Marulan Driver Training Center with Fifth Gear last year I knew I was going to have a ball in the 86... and I did! Most of the NS guys had done a bit more work to their cars and had a little more experience but since I have an 86 I knew I'd be fine. I watched a couple of the other drivers go on first and saw some of the varying skill levels and got a sense of the track then after a while it was time for me and my ex-housemate (in his 228rwkw S13) to hit the pan. For the first lap I just took it easy, got a feel for the track and how wet it was, where all the drains were and how much I needed to turn to get around the corners. As I can back to the main straight (if you can really call it that) I opened up the throttle, kicked the back out and unleashed the innate drifting ability of the sprinter. Note: I think I forgot to mention in the previous posts, but when I picked it up the mechanic mentioned that it was very prone to understeer. I noticed this the first time I took a corner in the wet and when I tried to do some circles in an abandoned estate in the wet. Anyway... back to the story... As I hit the turn and started to slide the understeer kicked in. The front shuddered like it was in the middle of an earthquake and the car started heading for the edge of the track. I tried a couple more corners the same way, with the same results, then began to unleash the handbrake (with the result of the Fifth Gear instructor). Using the handbrake I was able to get a lot more control of the car and make it drive the way it was supposed to... sideways. By the end of the day I was getting quite good at it and started to build up some speed (I spent most of the day in 1st gear as it was only a small track, but managed to get a bit of time in second towards the end). By the end of the day my skill had improved dramatically (although since there was no one videoing me it's hard to see exactly how I was doing) but I think there is still a fair bit for me to learn :) Since I was in my car the whole time it was on the skid pan (and I don't have a crap enough camera to mount on the car) I didn't get any photos of my car, but there were other people from NS taking photos, so I should be able to post up some of those as I get them. I'll definitely have to hit the skidpan again... maybe with a couple of other toyotas :P Here's some of the pics I've gotten so far.
  18. I'm in. I vote 30 mins too. My other half said she might be interested.. but we will just have to wait and see.
  19. "There's no replacement for displacement" When I took my KE55 on the track last year one of the marshals stopped me as I was about to go on saying that he thought the engine was leaking oil. Another marshal though said "nah, it's ok, it's a Corolla they're supposed to do that". Just make sure before you get it rego'd that you clean up all the oil leaks just before you drive it into the mechanic. I made that mistake for my sprinter and then I had to get them all "fixed" before they would issue the RWC.
  20. The best donor car I've ever has is my KE55 (in my display pic). We originally bought it to steal the doors and then realised it was in way better condition than the other car, we ended up stealing a door from the original project car. Since then I've had a green KE35 which had the 7k, 5sp box and 2in exhaust in it, but we just stripped out those parts and sent it to the wreckers (massive mistake). The next one was a KE wagon (can't remember what it was). Bought it for $200 to steal the engine from. Got it with a months rego and a full tank of fuel, so I drove it till the rego expired then stole the engine and we got rid of the shell (again a big mistake). The car was awesome, it drifted like a dream!! I've got pics of the green car, but since we didn't destroy it and the pics like nice I didn't post them :laff: Our problem has always been no having anywhere to store the cars :D. A mate of mine who was into bluebirds once had three donor cars in the driveway (only for a day). One of them got put up on newspapers. The newspapers were still holding it the last time I saw it (3 or 4 years ago) and at that point it had been on them for 2 or 3 years, will have to see if the car is still there. While it was up on the awesome newspaper stand it had stripes painted on it, a design on the side and the rims painted gold, looked hilarious.
  21. I'm usually free all weekend (except this one and next sunday). Firday nights I have a standing game of Pitch and putt with a mate, but I can put that off for a rollaclub event.
  22. Lol, I had to drive really slow so I didn't drift into the back of it :lolcry: Edit: In response to your question chappo, it runs like a dream. Heaps of power (although not too much that it isn't drivable on the road).
  23. Yeah, sometimes it's a little too fun, hehe, have to hold myself back a bit although it doesn't always work (left some marks coming out of work the other day  ). I was driving to work behind sammo the other day, he probably just thought it was some bogan hoon behind him though :jamie:
