  1. I'll let you know how things go and when you can help out
  2. Going to see how the 5k goes, and if I can get it registered (might cruise around with the 5k for a little while). The silvertop should go in soon though. J Riftin is going to help me install the 20V (along with anyone else who wants to help).

Hahah yeah, s'all good. Hopefully I can make the next get together and you can see the 70 soon.
  4. Color looks more orange than yellow. It's an awesome colour though! Exactly the colour I was originally thinking of spraying my 86. Nice car!

Yesterday I purchase a KE70 :D Plan is to turn it into a track car. Will put up pics and a thread soon.
  6. Mmmm that front grill is sexy. Is the cream 70 yours? Once you lower it, take off the black plastic strips and add some rims (and maybe some camber) they look so much tougher (that's my plan for my 70).

Unfortunately I've got a photography course on that day :( On another note, will be looking a buying a KE70 on Saturday....
  9. I beg to differ: An engine conversion is not cheap. Done! :lolcry:
  10. I heard something similar, something along the lines of one of the ovals representing reliability, another representing performance and the outside oval representing their care/commitment to the customer (encompassing everything). But who really knows, it could just be marketing fluff and someone could've drawn it cause it looked cool.
  11. V-TEC YO!!!!! (that is all)
  12. After a quick google..... According to: http://www.carbuddy.com.au/car/values/specification/default.aspx?&mk=TOYOTA&md=COROLLA&y=1985&vs=~ 1985 TOYOTA COROLLA CS AE71 4Door WAGON 5 SEATS, RWD, CARB, 5 SP MANUAL » Towing Capacity: Brake(750kg), Unbrake(400kg) All of the other variants of the same year have the same rating. As Twinky said, remember that if your trailer doesn't have brakes (which it most likely won't) you need to be looking at the Unbraked rating (400kg). That's on the legal side, as to how well it would actually do it, I have no idea. NOTE: This information is just something that I googled up, and may be incorrect or not applicable for you state and I personally have no knowledge or experience on this matter.
  13. I'd say work out how much all the parts will cost (engine, gearbox, loom, intercooler, bits and pieces), then add 25-50%, then double that (to account for labour if you aren't doing it yourself), then add another 1k-3k for a engineers cert (depending on state, in vic it costs about 1k last I saw, but in act these days it's 2k+), then add about another 1-3k to account for things you will need to change for the engineers cert (brakes etc). I'd say (realistically) you'd be looking at 10-15k. There's some places you can call (toyospares etc). When I was looking at getting the engine changed in my 86 I was quoted around 5k for a bigport 4AGE without the exhaust and things like brake upgrades (and that's a fairly easy conversion). When I was looking at getting a ZE a year and a half ago I was told they are starting to become a little rare (you are probably looking 2k+). http://www.toyospares.com.au/2.html That page is a little hard to understand, but it translates to "not that cheap". As dave mentioned, on a 30 it's all custom...
  14. Back in the day we sprayed my 55 with a custom blue PPG paint with a bit of a purple pearl through it, looked amazing (also added silver stripes). The guy that sprayed it for us though was a workmate of my dads who's a spray painter, so he knew what he was doing, originally we were just planning on a basic blue.
  15. Awesome ride dude! Need some drift pics/vid. I've been looking at RC cars for a while, thinking of getting a Yokomo when I have some cash to splurge.

I'm fine, cars not :( still a bit of a touchy point, I'll release the details eventually etc when I'm feeling more upto it. I might be able to borrow a mates S13, if not then my spot might be up for grabs jojo ;) New car is a 1996 Integra GSi, ok for getting me around for the time being. Thinking of getting a KE70 to put the silvertop in.
  17. I went for a classic muscle car/ricer feel for my KE55. I have blue paint with silver stripes (Cobra style) a chrome engine bay with a red block. Red Sparco seat and Momo wheel. Blue neons in the foot wells, blue neons under the car (most of which have now fallen off or been ripped off) and blue washer LEDs. I have crappy blue plastic check plate mats and matching dash. All the interior panels and head lining have been sprayed black and the carpet has been replaced with new carpet. Many people hate some of the things done to the car, but I love it. It gives the car character, makes it unique and showing up in it is an experience (we used it has the wedding car for the groomsmen at a friends wedding a couple of years ago). Do what you like and don't car about what other people think. If you have just bought that KE55 recently then I think I know which one it is (was parked around the corner from my house a couple of months ago and saw it again on carsales a couple of weeks ago). I think the previous owner had already started developing the cars "style", so it's up to you to decide if you want to keep going along those lines or change it's direction.
  18. LoL @ catpower. I agree with whats been said, a lot of people want to have fun in their cars (and I'm all for that), but you need to do it safely, you can't treat the roads like a racetrack. I have seen some pretty stupid things in my time. More than once I have seen commodores getting sideways in bumper to bumper peak hour traffic (when the traffic starts to move they floor it, drop the clutch and slide the car while doing a burnout for a meter or two before the traffic stops again).
  19. As people have said there's a lot more to it than that. What if one of the cars was a bike making half the power, it would probably be much quicker. Also there is turbo lag.
  20. Couple of pictures from todays hill climb.
  21. It's coming, still coming to terms with it. Probably by the end of the weekend.
  22. I've only had one note, was some dude trying to sell me a set of rims. I have left one for someone though.... Said something along the lines of: "WHAT THE %$^& ARE YOU DOING PARKING SO CLOSE TO MY CAR!!! IF YOU EVER DO THIS AGAIN I WILL KILL YOU" I actually had to climb through the passenger side to get in (which is lucky cause these days the passenger door doesn't open from the outside).
  23. I used to have a 79 model KE55. When I upgraded to the 7k it came with a 5 speed box. The shifter was in a slightly different position so we just cut a new hole and welded the old one. I think in the past I've heard that there is actually two different K50 boxes, each with a slightly different shifter position.
  24. Yeah it should look pretty sweet. I was originally thinking black, but black 86s (even the black limited ones) just don't look that great (they don't pop). The big thing about the grey though is I don't want a bright silver/light grey. Nice and dark like the other car. Over the next couple of weeks I'm planning to start spraying the interior panels from brown to black. Might even see if there are any places in Canberra that do moulded carpet, when I got the carpet for me KE55 (like 5 years ago) it cost about $120 for a brand new black moulded carpet (which I think is pretty good).
  25. Plans VS Current State I thought after having the car for almost a year and a half it was worth doing a little bit of a recap of where I am compared with the original plans. AGEZE (New engine) I didn't end up going with the ZE, but I have put in a different engine (4AGE 20v Silvertop). I got everything done right (and expensively) resulting in an engine that hasn't really given me any issues. It's got a bit more kick than the 4AC and even though it's not putting out lots of power (or as much as it should) it's still fine for the road. LSD Still running the stock diff for now. Still planning to get a new diff, but it's not a huge priority for now. Paintjob (probably in orange/yellow with black along the base, like all the Initial D themed 86s) I've abandoned the full ricer spec. Hehe. I decided that since I wanted it for the street I should go with something a little more sedate and sensible (though one day I hope to have a Jap car with crazy paint covered in stickers). My current idea is to paint it similar to this http://www.flickr.com/photos/quickster/2970540145/in/pool-35257991@N00/ two tone with a really dark gunmetal grey. Bodykit (nothing too over the top, thinking of rolling the guards and/or putting on flares) Still want to get a body kit, and will do this before I paint it, but it's fairly low on the list of priorities. I almost got a new tailgate with spoiler a couple of weeks ago, but was too slow :( I still think rolling the guards or flares will look cool, but I'll need to make sure I can get some rims/tyres to fill them out right. Rims (probably 16 inch, not gansta style chromies, probably some nice simple black rims) Eventually got some 14 inch meshies. Decided 16 was too big! I will eventually go up to 15 inch rims (have two Volk Racing 15 inch meshies in the garage at the moment) when I find something good, but for now the 14 inch rims look good and the rubber on them is fine for the road. Tyres (as wide and low profile as I can put on it) Just got some new Federals on the front (nothing too fancy, just standard $100ish tyres) and some second hand (though almost new) Dunlops on the back. They manage to keep traction most of the time ;) Suspension While getting the engine changed the springs were cut a little (half a coil). I've since replaced the rear springs with AJPS 6kg springs and I'm planning to do the same to the front. I'm running new pedders sports shocks on the rear (and front as well I believe). I'm not going to bother going too over the top (adjustable coilovers etc). Diff Still running the stock ADM diff/rear end with drum brakes. I'll probably just keep this as I've heard the hassle of changing the rear end isn't worth it for a street car and it pulls up alright. The master and slave cylinders have been replaced and the drums machined. Strut Braces/Sway bars Nothing done on this yet. Will see how it goes next time I take it to the track. I'm still considering braces and might replace the sway bars if something comes up cheap (but I'm not really going to go out of my way). Sound system (currently the radio doesn't work) Still no sound :( in fact there is less of a sound system now (as I've removed the dodgy old speakers from the front). Hopefully I'll do something about this in the next couple of months. For a while I had a set of headphones around the gearknob and I just turned my ipod up really really loud. Recaro adjustable sports seats At over $5000 to put in brand new leather recaros I ended up going with FTO seats in the front. They are comfortable enough and don't make the car look to ricey. Extractors and exhaust Had an exhaust custom made when the engine was being installed. It currently has a small hole (or so) just before the muffler so it is a little loud (have to be silenced for track/skidpan days). I'll get this welded up soon.... hopefully. Daily Drive Since I got the car back from the engine change I've driven it to work almost ever day. It's such a fun car to drive around. The aircon not working can be a little annoying, but the fact that I have a ball wherever I go makes up for it. I've driven from Canberra to Melbourne in it at least 4 times. I've taken it to the skidpan 3 times (and going again in a month) and onto Marulan once.
