  1. I think I saw this one too the same morning (coming down William-Hovell), forgot to post it up when I got to work. The one I saw was a Yellow KE30 with red wheels. Wasn't Benny's, (like KENut said, he has the cookers) but the paint was a little more faded than Bens and I think it also had the round headlights...
  2. I think my boss got a set of tires from there (or some other site) for his Touareg, had heaps of issues, in the end it costed him heaps in the end trying to get through customs etc. Don't exactly know the details, but just make sure you don't rush into it and have all your bases covered.
  3. Yep they fit, not sure if they fit 100% perfectly though... I have some KE30 doors on my 55, I can't open the rear door without first opening the front (I might just need to adjust the mounting). The KE30s though don't have side intrusion bars (like the 55), so there might be some legal issues.
  4. The AE86s require a long boss kit (110mm-ish I think) to clear the stalk. For mine though I just used a 50mm boss and a 50mm quickrelease hub for the wheel. From what I've seen, around 50mm seems to be about standard for boss kits, have you taken yours off and measured it?
  5. Looks like you are essentially talking about building something like http://store.quietrush.com.au/fighter.html except with a petrol motor. I've also heard similar things about the 0.2KW rules. I also find it quite funny reading some of these post where someone says "I want something that is illegal, but I can't (cause it's illegal), so instead I will build something else illegal". Not trying to be a hater at all, I love the ingenuity and some of the ideas make for a good read.
  6. Just spotted a yellow KE wagon (KE3x?) while taking the dog for a walk in Macgregor. Sounded fairly stock, but had blue neons in the boot :D
  7. You can use an AE86 engine crossmember (at least we have put mine into my KE70 in preparation for dropping in the engine). Though if you use AE86 struts you will have to ensure you use the KE70 camber tops (to avoid terrible castor). Depending on the model of 4A you decide on more modification may be required. For example, with the 20v you need to do something about the distributor (as when the motor is turned it intersects with the firewall), to solve this you can either cut the firewall (bad idea), relocate the dizzy or use a coilpack and aftermarket ECU (the usual approach). I don't know what the issues are though when using the 16vs.
  8. My 20v in my 86 ran a Link G4 Storm ECU. Most 20v setups will need an aftermarket ECU to allow it to control the coilpack setup etc (that is required as the distributor is usually removed).
  9. Yeah, I completely agree. Nothing you can do about it. Stuff about life will always suck, nothing you can do about it, just gotta accept it and try to still find a way to enjoy yourself.
  10. I'm glad that when I got my "hoon" fine years ago they didn't automatically impound for 30 days on the first offence. In my case I turned onto a road and probably jumped on the throttle a little too hard too quickly, I lost traction on the inner wheel while turning for a fraction of a second, I barely noticed, but apparently the nearby police car did. I then turned into a slip land drove through a giveway sign (as it was 11pm at night, the road was clear and I had full visibility for about 1-2km down the road) drove under a tunnel and into a shopping center carpark (to pick my ex up from work). The police officer boxed me in, and issued the fine stating on the fine that I'd "failed to have complete control of the vehicle". He also commented that I didn't stop in the slip lane and my car sounded loud while driving through the tunnel. He said I was lucky I didn't get defected or have the car confiscated. In my opinion he was just bored, getting to the end of the shift and wanted something to do. I admit there was a slight slip of the inner wheel while turning, but nothing significant and I wouldn't call it "hooning". There was no malicious intent in what I did. But maybe in his opinion taking a corner at more than 1km an hour and not stopping at give way signs on (clearly) desserted roads is unsafe driving. He stated that he could "take the car off me" but I'm assuming that since I wasn't actually doing anything and it would've been a mountain of paper work he didn't bother. I guess one of my issues is that while lots of things are clearly hooning, some of it is slightly subjective. Sure in the situation where the person accelerates quickly to take a gap you can state that he should've waited, but there are intersections where if you don't have at least some acceleration or assertiveness you will never get in/through. There's also the issue that you can't really do anything if they say you are hooning, if you argue back you are just in for a world of hurt; they will then find something on the car to defect it etc (I've heard some stories of police saying things to that effect). In my case I didn't bother saying anything back, there was just no point. I paid the fine I was issued before the due date like I was told. BUT THEN the week before it was due I received a check in the mail from Civic Compliance refunding my money. I thought obviously the police officer had changed his mind and decided it wasn't worth putting the ticket in the system. Unfortunately I had a busy week that week and didn't get a chance to call up and confirm, and received an overdue notice the next week (the day after the fine was due) with a $15-20 overdue fee. When I called up Civic Compliance to ask what the hell had happened I was told that "the police officer reissued the fine on the spot, and I had paid the incorrect fine", I explained that I hadn't received the reissued copy, and that they still had my money (hadn't cashed the cheque) but the person on the phone yelled at me (since I was a filthy hoon) and told me the only way I would get out of paying the $15-20 overdue fee was if I wrote letters to the head of the police, the ombudsman and took it to court. I'm not saying that I'm the best driver in the world, but I think that things are slightly stacked against people these days. The vibe is that most people (especially young ones in sports cars) are all deliberately doing the wrong thing and flaunting the law. I can see why the hoon laws were put in place, I've seen some terrible things done on the road, but from what I have heard the majority of people who are caught by the hoon laws (while they might be doing something wrong) aren't the true targets of the laws (the real targets being those people that drive unsafely in traffic, around people and other cars etc and generally endanger lives). I guess you can argue though it's quite hard to catch the people who are endangering lives, as the police can't have 100% presence on the road. At the end of the day I don't think there's a right answer, someone is always going to be unhappy about it (whether it is the drivers/enthusiasts or the people who want to see something being done about the problems).
  11. Updates! (Suspension, Pedalbox, Extrators and Bit's and Pieces). Well it's been almost a month since my last post (been a bit slack). We've progressed quite a bit on the 70. I've managed to get a couple of new parts: 4-1 20v 4AGE Extractors (3inchs at the end) Lockable bonnet pins Hydraulic Handbrake AE71 Gearbox crossmember Along with that maxhag also got a new socket set (so hopefully we should have enough tools now) and I got a new hydraulic jack. Front Suspension We took all of the front suspension bits (struts, steering rack and engine crossmember) off my old AE86 ready to go onto the KE70. Was a little bit of a hassle getting it all set up (had to borrow a rattle gun in the end to remove the strut tops). In the end we used all of the AE86 front end, but used to KE70 strut tops (as using the AE86 ones on a KE70 gives bad castor), the KE70 top hats (normally you would use the 86 hats if you were using 86 springs) and some completely random springs that were in the shed (they looked low enough and were a lot stiffer than what was on the AE86 I had). Big thanks to KENut and maxhag for helping out. Now the car has front wheels on again (just stole a set of maxhags 15inch works) and it's still sitting a little high. Hopefully the weight of the engine once it's in will drop it down low enough. We still need to put the 6kg AJPS springs in the rear. Pedalbox Yesterday we had the.... fun... experience of trying to install the pedalbox. Was quite tricky to get it in there. Luckily we had ripped out lots of dash and it didn't really matter if anything broke. It would be a real pain if you were trying to do it on an intact car and put it all back together. We still have to install the clutch master cylinder and bolt some stuff back in. Pics How she sits now And a couple of things maxhag picked up....
  12. I've got a whole heap of KE70 and AE86 interior bits lying around. If anyone needs something in particular let me know and we'll see if we can organise something. If not, some of it might just get thrown out. That includes most interior KE70/AE86 panels, cloth seats to suit KE70 and much more.
  13. My guess is 3y (as the 7k is 1.8litre, unless it has been bored out to 2l or the seller just rounded up the figure). We were looking at putting a Tarago engine into my KE55 at one point.... but I digress. I reckon that would be getting close to the limit of what you could legally register, but as Evan said, talk to the local road authority and an engineer; they are the only ones that can really say if it's legal. I reckon it would be a bit of a weapon and is probably a decent deal (as long as you can get what you want out of it, ie if you want a road car and it's going to cost another 3 grand to get it engineered and roadworthy then it might not be such a good deal).
  14. I put a set of Narva H4s (like $50 each from autobarn) and whatever the brightest legal globes where into my KE55 and it was 10x better. It still seemed half the strength of anything brand new though, but you could really notice the difference.

  16. I vote for jet engine. This is an MR2, but you get the idea: http://www.engadget.com/2005/07/15/rocket-powered-car/
  17. I believe they are different between the sedan and some of the other models. I sold my stock sedan radiator to someone who bolted it in a station wagon (or maybe panel van) and it wasn't wide enough.
  18. Awesome stuff! Can't wait to see how it turns out. There whole "measure twice, cut once" approach is very good and saves a lot of time/headaches.
  19. The car is red, but the interior was blue.
  20. This post is at the Charlie Sheen level of winning!
  21. Can't wait to see this thing develop. We'll have to take some more awesome photos of it (next ACT Rollaclub photo shoot you better show up). If you need some interior bits I have some left over blue bits from my Ksev.

    ......

I can see what the previous owner was going for with the front bar (I think it looks pretty sexy in the pic), but I know it's not everyones cup of tea. Look forward to seeing how this comes along!
  23. Yeah, there are some crazy keen people into rollas in Malaysia and Thailand, maybe they can shed some light on the authenticity of this..... /me sounds the call to south eastern asia rolla owners. BTW: WOOOT 400th post :D
  24. From memory I think with the KE55s (and maybe ke70s) the most you could get was 2-2.4 litres.... There are also restrictions for P platers of less than 100kw per 1000kgs (at least that was the rules back when I got mine), but I think these days it's basically no engine conversions. Since no one else has said it though, I will say it: ask VicRoads. Anyone else that tells you is possibly lying, at the end of the day they are the only ones that can tell you the truth (though getting a straight answer out of them can be difficult). Also speak to an engineer. If you are looking at doing any sort of conversation or modification (which is obviously the point of this post) it will need to be engineered to be legal. Only an engineer can tell you what can legally be engineered. Maybe though you should post what conversion you think you are doing, maybe someone in vic can tell you how they went about getting it legally registered (or how they couldn't).
  25. I'll give a really generic response: It's never just a matter of moving an engine across (unless it is exactly the same model of car and the same engine). But anything is possible with enough time, money and effort (for example: http://maisonbisson.com/blog/post/10679/jet-turbine-powered-toyota-mr2-on-ebay/)
