  1. Cheers mate! I hope to drive it all the way up your end of the country one day/year and really test its reliability haha
  2. Hi guys, Went on a bit of a camping adventure up to the Flinders Ranges in the wags last weekend. Had a great time and the rolla made it home thankfully, but only just! haha. It was about 450km each way and on the way up, around 350km from home when i stopped to fill up, I found the starter motor was dead! It was kind of always a bit dodgy and i think the long drive at 100kph or more just cooked it once and for all. Anyway got it started with some help from a nearby friendly outback mechanic who gave the starter a tap with a hammer which got it started. So I made it to my destination where I knew i had the help of some strong lads to help me push start it for the trip home. The drive up was about 5 hours in total and pretty enjoyable. Especially once inside the Flinders Ranges national park, the road became more scenic. I arrived to find I also had a loose rear shock! I heard a few noises near the end of the drive coming from the rear but didn't even notice it any difference in handling haha! I ended up fixing it using a bolt from the engine bay though so it was all good. The drive home was all good apart from not being able to turn the car off the whole time. Once I got home I straight away sourced a brand new starter and fitted it up without any problems. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. After reading some things about K engine starter motors I was a bit worried about how difficult it might be to swap. Only took about 30 min all up and she was starting like a champ again. Here is a few picks of the drive for your viewing pleasure. Was great to hit the open road, it's been too long! Hope to do it again soon. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere My rear left shock upon arrival :no2: My bed Wedge tailed eagle Massive truck thing coming at me New starter installed once I got home Cheers, Chris :)
  3. Dude, I really, really enjoy looking at this car. So the coilovers are ke30 struts? What is the spring rate? How do like the way it handles? Cheers
  4. A bit has been happening around here since I last posted. I ended up selling the panelvan because of lack of funds and motivation for it. Now focussing on getting the 38 exactly how I want it. Will organise getting the rear end repaired sooner or later. Just need to find a ke36/38 tailgate which could take some time. If anyone knows of a good one please let me know! Will pay good money for a decent tailgate. I have been doing a few small things to make it more of a pleasure to drive. Installed an Accuspark Stealth electronic ignition kit, which works great! It wasn't the right kit for my dizzy but I just had to modify the base plate a little to get it to fit right and it works a charm. Car runs way better now, especially at low revs. Noticeably smoother through the revs and more torque. Highly recommend this kit!! Also aligned the drivers door and bonnet better. And tidied up the interior including making a new mount for the head unit in the glove box. Well thats all I can think of right now, hopefully more updates soon :)
  5. Very nice! Good mods so far, look forward to seeing what else you do with it!
  6. Cheers for the info Ben! Alright, I've started stripping it down. Removed front windscreen and found some more rust that need some serious attention. Also picked up a nice dash which i will paint black along with door cards and other bits. Ouch :/
  7. Cool, thanks for the info Ben. I am pretty sure it's imported. The original owner said it was and said he had to wait for it to arrive, but I wasn't sure because this plate says manufactured in Australia so I don't know.. maybe they put this plate on after it got here? It also has this plate which looks kind of japanese
  8. Updated first post with pics and more info. Also I was wondering, how can I tell if this is an import or not? What are the differences? Cheers

  11. Cheers AussieSteve! Basically just want to tidy it up with respray, wheels, suspension and interior while trying not to spend too much money haha.
  12. Alrighty, cleaned up the wags a bit today and got some pics. Also had a go at white tyre writing but didn't get very far, it's pretty tedious haha. As you can see the rear end damage it barely noticable if you aren't looking for it. So it doesn't really bother me anymore. It's annoying that it happened but this car never was super clean anyway, only pretending  Need to get some more chrome strip for above the windows on the passenger side. Also picking up a new project next week, it's a Ke70 Panel Van. Can't wait to get my hands on it! :y: Heres a pic, and a link to the thread here : http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/66357-ke70-panel-van-project/ Cheers (Y) Chris
  13. Nah I wouldn't say the chapter is closing on the 38. I still drive it nearly every day. Although after it got rear ended (even though not badly) the plans to respray it etc. kinda went out the window especially once I got quotes to fix it. This whole ke70 van cost about the same as what it would cost to fix the 38 which has already been fixed too many times.. So it just made sense to start something new. :) Plus I have always wanted a pano! :D
  14. Hi guys! Picked this little beauty up tuesday night. It's a standard 1981 KE70 panel van called Henry  I am the second owner! It has 250k on the clock but engine and gearbox were rebuilt about 80k ago. Drives well. It has a straight body but has a little rust in some areas. Interior needs a bit of work. I used to see this around my house a lot and one day, a few years ago, I pulled up next to it at the servo so I asked the bloke if he would sell, he said he wasn't selling yet but took my number anyway. Then recently, he and his wife contacted me saying they were looking to sell, so I went and had a look. So glad I did! Really nice people and was pleased with the condition of the van. It shows its age in some areas but overall it has been well looked after and was a much loved member of the family. Things I will do: -Fix rust (cut and weld new metal in) -Respray (not sure if I'll do the same yellow or something else) -Fix up interior (needs dash, carpet front and back, side panels and stereo) -Chrome bumpers -Wheels -Suspension -Mild engine mods (most likely new carby and exhaust) -Love it Things I won't do: -Fender mirrors -Flare guards -Have no rear bumper -Engine swap -Drift/skid/thrash it -Any mods that can't be reversed Really happy with this car. Can't wait to get to work on it! :) Guess it's time for some pics :) Here is the first pic I got of it before I bought it: This is how I got it: (sorry about poor quality) And some pics of areas needing attention: Finally, some action in the shed :D Cheers, Chris
  15. Good to hear mate, I really can't understand why this has passed through so many owners.. I couldn't let mine go and its junk compared to this thing. As for the wheels, I think the dragways look mad. They might just grow on you. Otherwise maybe look into doing a 114.3 conversion as others have said, then you get a huge range to pick from. What I would be doing is painting inside the arches black and behind the grill black.
  16. Such a cool car mate, plans sound good. I will be watching :)
  17. Thanks man, much appreciated. Sure has come a long way! :) I just remember driving it home when i first got it, diff slapping chassis, no brake fluid, no air filter etc etc. absolute junk! lol. Good car to drive now though.. Love it. It does get a lot of attention too, you will probably spot it sooner or later :) although I'm not south anymore, more central/east but drive it nearly every day.
  18. Cheers guys, At the moment I am looking for another one to buy as well. Got a bit of money from the accident so instead of fixing this one, which has had its fair share of fixes/ rust anyway. I will keep this one as my daily but really hoping to find a nice neat one to take to the next level. Now that I have all these cool parts I really don't see myself getting out of the corolla game for a while. Just need to find the right car to buy and it's on! So nothing to report on this at the moment other than it's still kickin around Adelaide doing it's thing. And hopefully soon it will have a friend in the drive way :D Cheers, Chris
  19. Nice one. Pretty sure I saw this the other day crossing West Tce.. thought it must have been someone on here.
  20. yeah so she might be bent but still, the best. ever. car. ever.
  21. I also had trouble finding the square type ke55 MC. Does anyone know if the other type (the one that ke70dave posted) fits without mods?
  22. Teza mate, you're a bloody legend. You've done a great job with this little corolla. It's kind of sad that it's now finished! I am sure your daughter will love it! I know I would! KE38 love. Cheers, Chris
