  1. Corolla equals more fun than Europe. Evening cruise is a good idea; what days are good for everyone? I vote not friday or saturday So yeah I'm in too
  2. NOS. Start ya Bastard injection also works well. But seriously, rebuild with mild cam is probably a good place to start.
  3. Orange LJ, do post up thread on your ute, saw it someplace else but can't remember where. It was looking good last time I saw photos of it :D
  4. Yes does sound very similar (sorry for thread jack). Will try to remember to let you know how mine goes but might not be fixed (read: new engine) for a month or two. I'd def be leaning towards water pump. The previous engine in mine with cracked head didn't really get hot, that is until it ate most of the radiator water. Even then it didn't get hot like this 'new' engine. Although this one has a broken head bolt at the front, and oil leaks from HG here. I used the same waterpump on both engines, and it looks relately new on the outside, but was run with water for probably 6 months. So I think waterpump, as has been said theres not much else.
  5. Yep fan shroud and good stock fan. I think you might be right about the water pump impeller being corroded, thats what I've been pondering. Doesn't do it at slow speeds (engine and road), and doesnt seem to do it at above 4000 rpm (on highway constant speed). So I thought it might be inefficiency in the pump curve at a specific rpm caused by corroision, if that sounds plausible. Probably crack it open when new engine goes in I guess.
  6. My previous 4K still ran fine after 3 months of cracked head, albeit a little slower. Lol. The engine I now have gets hot (double normal temp reading) on days where ambient is around 30ish or more. New thermostat, recond radiator. Usually does it at 100 - 110 kms (3300 - 3600 rpm ish). Interestingly though it does not get hot when I'm near home, which is a small altitude drop from the highway. hmmm. I thought it could be some sort of build up flaking off from this engine and blocking the radiator, but flushing did not improve the issue, even with coolant. Any ideas?
  7. Yep thats the one! :)
  8. Looks like its coming along nicely Sloth, some good progress. Black would look good, but you'll forever be cleaning it, and cursing all the swirl marks. I like a champagne colour, kinda like that bottom picture but with a bit more depth.
  9. Marques is a pretty chilled event, so I wouldn't be worried about po-lice. Nothing like the nats where skids are obligatory. I'll represent, might jack it up cos it looks silly dumped at the back. Or hopefully s13 front by then...
  10. There is two marks on the front of the crank pulley and one on the back from memory, which is the one you want.
  11. Now that really does depend on who supplied "bj" as to whether it could be considered a bargain... Pics?
  12. Hmmm, may need a little more convincing, but I guess its free, so maybe. If I had space I'd buy this other orange one, just to screw with people :)
  13. 4age engine including near new rwd waterpump; AE71 sunroof, pedal box, engine crossmember and tailshaft for free.
  14. Because its a boring stocker, and not even a neat one
  15. I'll be there, but wont be entering my rolla. So is the Ke10 ready?
  16. True story. Whats worse is there isn't much in the way of education for young drivers. They get behind the wheel, pick up bad habits from mum and dad, and aren't told any better.
  17. I can see the no turbo/v8 law from both sides, yes given powah I'd do skids etc, but at the other end of the scale an under powered corolla can be dangerous too, for example if you have to pull out into fast moving traffic. And NSW laws doesn't make sense; you can have a v6 commodore, but not an old 253, even though the v6 has more power. What annoys me with high beams is an amazing amount of people think its okay to have their high beams on when behind someone, and they only have to turn them off for oncoming cars.
  18. Sorry I missed you, must have been focused  Today I spotted a brown AE71, and a nice white flat front KE70, yesterday I saw a yellow KE70 with sunroof strapping it down Antill, and theres a nice red KE70 wagon at tech on tuesdays.
  19. Haha, really? What were you in? ps I like Parkes Way cos of the roundabouts hehe
  20. What about the bulb holders, is it possible to get new ones?
  21. Even though its slow and rusty, my KE70 makes me happy whenever I hop in for a drive. This is most days, but if I haven't driven it for a few days I miss it, I too know the irrational love for KE70's. It is soo slow in a straight line, but nothing beats listening to the little k engine sing through some nice twisty corners. Do ittt, road trip sounds epic, do an awesome write up again.
  22. Old thread dig up time. So apparently Channel Nine have bought the rights to Top Gear, and Shane Warne is to host a six episode series with Clarkson. According to the internet Warne is known as a car nut. Thats not what I remember about him..
  23. Why would someone bother trying to steal an old Corolla, seriously, if they laid off the crack for a week they could afford one. Good luck in the futures and keep up the good work :S
  24. I too have dealt with Performance Plus when getting carby bits for my Holden, very helpful and cheap too. I'm looking into camshaft regrinds too Tom, so I'll let you know what I find. Yeah like $200 for an engine, same for gbox. Um can I come round some time and check out the head?
  25. Japparts have at least 2 gearboxes if your really desperate. That 3K head of yours Seabiscuit, what kind of condition is it in? Cos my old 4K one does have a crack in it. Or if anyone has a decent 3/4K head they want to sell me?
