    Spotted Qld

Red/orange hardtop turning onto Coonan St near Indro shops 5 mins ago!
  2. It hasn't been starting too well when cold for some months, and really struggles to idle until i rev it for a while. Interestingly on the morning that it overheated it started pretty much instantly; thought it was my lucky day however i see now that was not the case! Thanks for the reply, will try get my hands on the equipment to test.
  3. (Same car and similar issue, so figured I would piggy back this thread) Having issues with overheating again: Coolant seemed to be leaking from the cap of the overflow bottle Coolant seems to be getting into the oil - milky residue on oil cap, oil level is higher than before on dip stick and seems less viscous (still brown though) Also leaking a bit of oil rad and hoses < 1 year old Tried the "headgasket bubble check" as mentioned in other threads - water was overflowing at a constant rate, but could not see any bubbles. When thermostat opened after ~5min there were a few big bubbles, spilled a bit of water then resumed overflowing at constant rate with no bubbles. Gregories manual suggests warped/cracked cylinder head/block - last time the head was off (< 1 year ago) it all looked good/straight. Should I get the cylinders pressure tested? Could it be anything other than issue with head/block/gasket? Thanks.
  4. was just wondering about something posted in a thread: "15x7 with offset between 0 to +10 is spot on for KE's". I'm looking to upgrade wheels on my ke30, currently have some Tarago steel wheels 14x5.5 +30 (measured offset myself so hopefully its accurate) on stock standard (AFAIK) suspension, and the outer edge of the front rims is about 20mm in from the guard (rears have plenty of space). According to this willtheyfit.com link, 14x7 +0 will stick out and extra 2 inches, which makes it seem that they will not fit well. Do you need to flair/roll the guards to fit this size rim, or have i missed something in my calculations? I have also measured the stock ke30 wheel offset/size at 13x4 +40 meaning that 14x7 +0 would stick out an extra 78.1mm - does this sound right? any insight is much appreciated.
  5. Recently installed a 2" tacho in my ke30. This is the one i got from ebay for $30 + $8 postage. "Tachometer 2'' Gauge Wide Sweep 250degree reading 4-6-8 cycl adjustable In Dash" from seller "automotiveblitz". http://www.ebay.com....id=300880814731 Decided to put it where the clock would normally go Made up a simple aluminium plate to hold the tacho in place With tacho bolted in Wired both ground wires and the orange (light) wire to some plugs that would have been used for the clock. Red wire will hook up to plug in photo below, green wire goes to the ignition coil Don't know what this plug is normally used for, but is very handy for the tacho Routing the wire from the dash into the engine bay via this rubber collar was pretty tough, anyone got some tips/tricks for doing this? Blue wire connects to negative terminal of ignition coil (this is the green wire from the instrument cluster) This post is pretty much what I was looking for when contemplating adding the tacho (since my automotive/electrical skills aren't great), so i hope somebody else finds it useful.
  6. thanks for the advice guys. Not looking forward to trying those bolts, ill see how i go.
  7. Hi all,was hoping to get some advice on a problem with what appears to be a gasket that goes between the inlet and exhaust manifolds which is partly missing (see photo). I have heard that you can get some exhaust repair paste that could potentially be a quick fix, but thought i would see if anyone else has had issues with this before (i haven't been able to find much info on this gasket, even the workshop manual i have doesn't seem to mention it in the inlet/exhaust manifold section). Thanks in advance
  8. That sounds like a good option if it looks like it needs to be skimmed ke70dave, any recommendations for a machine shop in Bris and what would it cost roughly?
  9. @altezzaclub The original cause of overheating was that the bottom radiator hose was apparently severed by a corroded pipe that came off the rad (didn't see it myself, got a brand new rad + hoses put in while I was at work and that's what I was told). Since then, the plate has been the only place i could see coolant leaking while the engine was running, and it hasn't had issues in the past, so fingers crossed no more issues after this! @banjo I will attempt this on the weekend. Regarding the Gregorys manual, I probably won't be down that way any time soon, but I'm happy to pay for postage? Thanks for the invaluable information guys, ill let you know how i go with it.
  10. Despite Banjos words of caution, and my best efforts, the bolt heads snapped off. The head is now off. I guess I will need to get the stuck bolts taken out, but what else should I be doing/replacing before it goes back together (keep in mind it has overheated, but the head gasket looks fine)? I will be looking to get my hands on a Gregorys/Haynes manual as well.
  11. Thanks Jeff, Rone an Banjo for the helpful advice. It's good to know this is a common issue with these motors, I will clean it up and put it back with some sealant (the plate itself seemed in good nick) and hopefully that should solve the issue. Thanks again for the useful info.
  12. Looking for some advice on a 4k that seems to be leaking coolant from a plate on the rear of the engine, facing the firewall (see photo attached). The car overheated about a month ago, which is likely the cause of the leak. Has anyone had this issue before, or can give me some suggestions on what i need to replace? Any suggestions would be be greatly appreciated, thanks for you time.
