  1. There was a leak from the heater tap. Probably the culprit.
  2. IT'S ALIVE!
  3. Cheap 'upgrade' is a Hyundai excel rad. Plenty of write ups and they're a dime a dozen. But determining what the cause is definitely should be first on the list. May just need a good reverse flush.
  4. I only just found out its not a backup spring like I thought. I've always set it like the above pic usually by feel. Never had an issue with the GZE doing it that way so I'll keep doing it like that :) Dave good question, no idea. Assuming manual rack as it feels similar to the ke.
  5. I actually hasn't been to bad to work on. I can't get the timing belt tensioner spring on. Well I probably can, might have another crack tomorrow. Supposedly you can pull out the engine bay fan and get access from the side. Apart from that one area everything else is reasonably accessible, the car isn't too wide that reaching into the middle is a chore.
  6. It would stop eventually but I ended up unhooking the battery. Got cracking today. Gasket comparison, theres no comparison to genuine. Yay! Rocker covers painted right over the OEM stickers. I decided to actually use the timing marks unlike the last guy. Slowly getting there. All done, well the engine is done. Still need to bolt on the exhaust, put the radiator and fans back in and clean the pipes out. Went back together pretty easy.
  7. I did a relay upgrade and the relay is under near the exhaust so I'm hoping it's just that that's fried. I'll test light the whole thing
  8. Don't get me started on the Corolla. The starter motor stuck on this morning.
  9. Looks pretty cooked to me. The oven didnt go to 300 so I just maxed it for the final bake.
  10. Divorce pending...
  11. I'm gonna finish at 2 tomorrow and get stuck into it. Might paint the head tonight though.
  12. Let's do this. Oh wait I have to attend to family stuff. Let's do this tomorrow!
  13. Well.. I..... Carry on. :D
  14. I bought my kit for $140 before I knew basic electrics :(
  15. For less than $30 you can't beat these kits. I was gonna make and sell them but no way I can compete. I use a quad light one and the difference is quite noticeable with decent bulbs. Same guy sells a quad light kit for a few bucks more. So you could hook your spotties up to high beam with it. Such a piece of piss kit to install too.
  16. Dropped the head off to be skimmed this afternoon. Got a bloody TNT missed delivery note so have to drive to pick up the gasket tomorrow avo. Will pick up the exhaust gasket and pipe cleaner too. Gotta weld up the EGR hole in the exhaust or fill it full of exhaust putty. Things should move along a bit now that parts are on the horizon. Looking at a full RCA and tie rod end kit from T3, with the full poly bush kit and the coilovers the suspension should be sorted. Will see how that handles and see what sway bar upgrades are available and whether they are worth it. I can't find anything or anyone selling short steering arms to boost steering response, maybe there's a quick rack out there? In all honesty I haven't even got under and had a look at the geometry as I have been so disenheartened by the whole situation. Hopefully having parts will motivate me, I'll be tapped out for cash that was meant for possible Rwc issues so hopefully the local guy isn't too harsh. The plan is to have this driving by Sunday. I think that's a fair call, tick off a few things in the avo after work then Saturday avo.
  17. I actually noticed these dags and sanded them down. Will see how they are after its shaved.
  18. Agreed, Awesome info, thanks. I think for now I'll just get it skimmed so it's flat and worry about getting it running. The head off the GZE is a tempting idea to mod as it already has cams. This way I can take my time, it's definitely something I'd be interested in learning about and wouldn't be hard or expensive to find a head to play with.
  19. Soaked the head in a boiling hot bath today, the amount of solid built up crap in it was pretty amazing. Used about 5 cans of degreaser and a few hours with a small flat head screwdriver picking out the shit. I'll 100% get it surfaced, if anyone wants to recommend shaving it and specs I'd be keen to hear.
  20. The F1 has its own dedicated high definition live YouTube stream. Only way to watch it. Well it did last year.
  21. 116mm. I'm gonna get the head shaved so I may as well get some skimmed too I suppose. And Dave I bought a genuine standard Toyota gasket for a better seal.
  22. don't have calipers unfortunately. Might graba set today, a need some.
  23. So I've been screwed on the pistons too? Great.
