Now that is starting to look better.

The rear end is such a rip off of the Jaguar E-Type.

 

 

In fact, the whole car looks way too much like an E-Type ripoff with the different front end.

Looks like the Toyota Sports 800 to me.

 

Surely the Sports 800 would be a mini-clone of the 2000GT. Especially since most people couldn't afford the 2000GT, hence only 371 were ever built. The Sports 800 sold more plentifully though, I believe.

Seeing as its about probably a third the size of the 2000GT, they must of stuck with the mini-clone idea and used a third of the cylinders, the little F-2, horizontally opposed 2 cylinder for the win! :)

 

I'd still love one of both though. :)

BTW, I think those last two shots of the Sports 800 might actually be a Mazda MX5 with a different body. Look at the wheels and the fat wheel arches (to cover the wide body) to see if you agree.

I like the kit car better. Love the big wheel archs as they suit the shape quite well.

The Sports 800 Were made in the early 60's, while the 2000GT was in the late 60's. You can see where the Sports 800 has influenced the design of the 2000GT.

Now this is where in my opinion it all began. With this concept car.

 

The Publica sports model made its appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1962 as a prototype for the Toyota Sports 800 released in 1965.

I think the 2000 was originaly designed with no popup lights, but they had to be added because they wanted the US market. And in USA the headlights had to be a certain height.

 

The engine was a 3M, 2 litre 6 cylinder twincam, with tripple sidedrafts. About the same power as a 18R-G, not that much (Load it up on GT4!). The "G" was not used in the engine name yet at that time, but in general you could call it a 3M-G I guess. The 3M (and 6R in the Corona GT RA45 I think, of the same period) were the first Toyota twincams. The 2T-G and 18R-G came later.

 

The Cressida, Cresta, Mark II, Crown etc have all been ralated to each other in some way. The history of the Crown goes way back, before the 2000GT. They started selling Crowns in America in the 50's.

Yep, the 2000GT causes me a stirring south of the navel. Would offer up one or both testicles for ownership of one, as they would be surplus to requirements if I brought one of these babies home. :)

i still think the z a far better looking car, theres just something not right with the 2000gt
