smacko84 Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Hey, i was after some suggestions to get my exhaust sounding a little better. I have a full 2inch system with one muffler near the back of my car. But it isnt producing the note i want it to and sounds a bit weak. I want to avoid putting a fart cannon on so i was wondering what other options i have to improve the sound. My budget isnt that big but any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Quote
Des Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 (edited) I had a 2 1/4" on my seca and a hotdog and lukey sports muffler and it sounded great with no drone. Edited January 28, 2007 by AE70 Quote
smacko84 Posted January 28, 2007 Author Report Posted January 28, 2007 what did the lukey and hotdog cost you?? thanks Quote
Des Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Dunno it was on the car when i bought it. Hotdogs are cheap about $80 for a good one that works and $30 for a poxy one that does nothing, The muffler I'm not sure on prices but it wouldnt have been alot. Quote
kangaroosa Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Just put a long resonator on it. The longer the resonator, generally the deeper the exhaust note. Exhausts without resonators 'generally' sound a bit tinny. 18" or 450mm resonators are a nice choice in my opinion. Quote
Des Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 (edited) Kangaroosa is spot on with the length factor, mine was about 400mm. Edited January 28, 2007 by AE70 Quote
smacko84 Posted January 28, 2007 Author Report Posted January 28, 2007 cool, so just a long resonator should do me then?? will i get a drone though? like you do with cannons etc? Quote
Des Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Canons drone on 99% of cars, Just a resonator/hotdog/bullet muffler will be very loud and sound like puss, Ive tried it and it made a really loud horrible noise when i backed off but it blew flames out the exhaust on sprited runs. Quote
Trev Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 I just stuck a 2" stainless cat back (standard cat) on my twincam seca with a straight through mercury exhaust, Has a bit of a drone on the inside of the car but you get used to it, Sounds great and not too loud, Cammerondownunder88 has been in it so just ask him for some feedback. smacko84 Posted January 28, 2007 Author Report Posted January 28, 2007 ok cool, thanks for your advice and help, keep it coming, i guess ill just have to go to a few places and talk to the people there and get some quotes etc. Thanks again Quote
flat out Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 lol, i have a cannon and it actuly sounds tuff, pretty deep and you could mistake it for a rotor at times :D but i have brought a decent redback straight thrumuffle to put under the passenger seat in hope that it will tame it down abit Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 lol, i have a cannon and it actuly sounds tuff, pretty deep and you could mistake it for a rotor at times :D Same, nothing but straight-through pipe from headers to cannon at the back, no resonator or hotdog or first muffler. Revs too high on the freeway for it to be considered drony Quote
smacko84 Posted January 29, 2007 Author Report Posted January 29, 2007 i initially thought cannon because my sisters car is straight through with a cannon and sounds kinda fat, but i don't want a cannon hanging out the back of my kesev, looks shocking Quote
Jono Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 my 4age has 4,2,1 extractors to a 2.5" past a r33 turbo cat, then through 2 mufflers. sounds a bit too loud but not tinny at all, just angry at high revs. Quote
