I think those oil setup things are rubbish...I had an XY on gas, it is still running and it has now been on gas for 15-20 years.

you guys are talking about something like a moreys upper cylinder lube kit?

 

Bec's mum has one on her immac gemini. the thing runs a white/grey exhaust pipe like in the old leaded days. seems to do an ok job. runs on vacuum though. don't know how one would work with a boosted engine.

ok thanks guys, so basically the engine didnt get enough lube, becuase it was burning gas instead of petrol.

and the damage that has been caused would be?

all the bottom end will still be good rite? just the head will have damage? what damage mite we be talkin?

i asked on toymods today and they seem to think in an unleaded engine the upper cylinder lubrication isnt needed, norbie said that so I'm incline to believe him.

spoke to the seller, he now says the turbos were the source of the smoke.

so now all I'm left to work it is reason for all the noise, he told me it was noisy ever since he bought it. but do i believe him, I'm not sure

what do people think?

yeah i sorta figured that i may need a new motor, but i have time to burn so wanted to rebuild it, coz it means i get to learn more and keeps me busy

I actually have a CA18-DE which i was going to have a look at putting in my KE70.....but thought it would be too much stuffing around....i'd have to get a silvia gearbox and change the gear shifter position and everything....right? :y:

ooh, anyone that hasnt heard, i got the car for 1300 :y: getting close to running now aswell, intercooler, exhaust and distributor mods left to do

 

ke70-84 - depending how much you know about cars etc putting a dirty neesan engine in wont be any more difficult than any other conversion really.

you will need to modify your crossmember so the engine sits on it properly, yes u will need the silvia box, and to change shifter position is easy, just grab the angle grinder and remove the bit of metal in the way of the shifter

you would want to uprate your brakes, which will be the same as any other conversion

and you will have to get the ecu wired up, or wire it in yourself, this is not something i want to try, but it wouild be well worth the result

your stock diff would prob hold up _ok_ for a little while with the ca18de, and when you get bored with that you can go to the ca18det without too much trouble and maybe just a diff upgrade at that point

would also have to convert fuel system to efi for the ca18de

but ke70-84, an engine conversion, if you love you ke70 if always gonna be well worth the effort, maybe get a el cheapo rustbucket to do the initial fabrication work into, so u know how it all works and know your issues, then put it into the car you want it to go into, as you already have the engine i think that may be the better option, coz if not having a daily driven project just doesnt work

My guess is that a lot would need to be custom fabricated. However, anything is achievable with time, skill, and of course, money.

It is by no means impossible, here is a CA18DET in and AE86..

I don't know if this has been suggested or not, but one conversion idea might be a Suzuki G13B from a Swift Gti. They have a 1.3 displacement, put out 74kw and best of all, the manifold is on the right side for RWD mounting. Gearbox would still be an issue...

Pretty sure it's been suggested before, Distributer clearance on the firewall may be an issue, also finding a gearbox to convert it to RWD..
