Ke70 Engine Conversions

jamie, one thing about the datsun engines, is that they are far more commonplace and there are a lot more go faster bits floating around. i think the datsun boxes are pretty strong, some just have weird shift patterns, and they seem to have sloppy shifts.

Yeah, my dad had a pink Datsun bluebird at one point in his life (aggges ago) and he use to call it the pudding car - he could stir the gear stick in any gear - literally lol

well i'm using old K50s so i'm no stranger to sloppy shifting. my box at the moment is well f@$ked, the bearing noise is getting worse. i should get the exit shaft bushing replaced in my good K50 this week and swap them on saturday before i drive to brisbane again

hmm. what am i talking about i can't afford to do shit with the engine at the moment anyway. whoever started this topic, put an L20 in your ke70

nah, think of the worst k box, and multply it by 5. some datto boxes are real real bad.

your gearbox sounds like the ke70 k50 one in becs ke16. it is real bad, has lots of shifter play and crunches bad changing back to 3rd if you are not real careful. it also makes this weird squeeky chirpy noise at slow speeds.

regarding the L series in a ke70. sorta be almost identical to a datsun stanza then. very similar looking to a ke70.

The L20s seem to be making a comeback. The ozdat guys are getting into them again....

Yeah that 1600 with the slogan "this may be Australia's coolest Datto" in Hot4's a whiel back had an L20 and was making very respectable power, somewhere around 200kW at the wheels i think

dunno if I'm gunna cop shit for this but why not try a escort/ cortina ohc 2 litre these things can really go and are crossflow i think the exhaust runs on the drivers side. gotta old car mag with a esky that makes 237 hp @ 6300 rpm n/a. or you could go one step further a capri 3 litre v6, dunno how good these things are or how to obtain go faster bits.getting pretty old now but I'm down with the old school stuff

pinto donk would probably be a bit heavy. if you were going to go to all the trouble of a 2 litre, you'd do something which actually made the car fast

i raced my KE25 with a dude who had a MK2 RS2000 and we were dead even, and i had two people in the car and a stock carby

that being said, yes you certainly can build an off its tits 2L and make power levels that K motors only dream about, and there's plenty of good david vizard books with head porting templates etc

the dude i bought my 25 off used to have a KE30 with an L20B in it, and he said it totally hauled ass

driver side exhaust would suck tho, you'd never get it to clear the steering box
