Des Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Hey Hey, A mate bought another 18rg thats f@$ked so i have a chance to buy the 40mm weber's from it. They ran but had a few flat spots down low, So they would need jetting down to suit a 5k and a tune as well. Comes with linkages that are home made but work well. What are they worth ? Des :) Quote
kangaroosa Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Webers generally pull alot more money than Dellortos. Its not uncommon to see a pair of 40mm Webers sell for $600+ on ebay. I rarely see a pair of webers in decent condition sell for under $400. Whereas excellent condition Dellortos can be purchased for $250. Have a scout through ebay and see what sort of prices they go for these days. Quote
Des Posted June 16, 2007 Author Report Posted June 16, 2007 There is a set on there to suit a datto for $600 with manifold and ram tubes, My mates are just the carbies, No tubes or manifold so i was thinking $450 to $500 or i could buy his rebuilt 45's for $1000 but i can't justify 1k for carbies. Quote
Redwarf Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 That's top dollar for a set of 45's. You could almost buy them new for that. $400 to $500 is a fair price for a set of 40's. Quote
Raven Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Paid $250 for a set of DHLA40 Dellortos in Excellent Condition. They seem to have been rebuilt not long ago. Quote
ancullen Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Am I correct in assuming that Dellortos are effectively the same as Webers, or can at least the use the same manifolds, just significantly cheaper? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Am I correct in assuming that Dellortos are effectively the same as Webers, or can at least the use the same manifolds, just significantly cheaper? Hey ancullen, if you're really interested in finding an answer to that question, do a little serach on google for some like "how did weber start" (yes, dellorto was around first!) and you might be surprised. If you can't find it, PM me. :) Quote
ancullen Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 I couldn't find any results relating to this. However, the only reason I'm asking is that I want to know if Dellorto and/or Solex carburretors work the same way as Webers. Apparently all the carbs use the same manifolds and filter arrangements, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they work the same, or that Dellortos or Solexs will help produce as much power as Webers. Are Dellorto DHLA 45's the same as Weber DCOE 45's? Quote
Raven Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 I know that the ram tubes use the same part number for weber/dellorto, so they are interchangable and they use the same manifolds and linkage kits. I'll ave a suss of my Redline Parts Catalogue later today and get back to you with a few part numbers/details if you like Ancullen. Quote
ancullen Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Cool, thanks Raven. I have checked on the internet and filters, ram tubes, and manifolds are the same for these three brands, so I really just want to know if it's worth paying the extra for Webers (aside from the brand name) or if I could get away with a pair of Dellortos or Solex's. Taz_Rx Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 to cut a long story short basically the story goes that the guy who started weber used to work for dellorto. He "borrowed" some desins for dellortos, went round the corner and started his own business called "weber" using plans for dellortos. So thats the reason why most dellortos (eg, DHLA) has a VERY SIMILAR cousin in the weber family (eg DCOE). :) Quote
ancullen Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 I'm hoping Solex's aren't too bad because I just bid on a pair. Quote
Xany Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 The only thing i've heard about solex's is that they should be used for paper weights and/or ashtrays. Sorry to give you some bad news. Quote
ancullen Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Bugger. Oh well, at least I didn't bid very much. Quote
Corolla_Kid Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 I've heard they are a bit harder to get parts for than dellortos/webers. Keep an eye on ebay twin dhla 40 dellortos regularly go for <$250. What are you planning to put these on? Quote
