Jono Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 a bit off topic: so what gear does the 7-rib bigport motor have? crank? oil squirters? i thought they had all the better late model stuff but just the old head, or is it all old model stuff with just the extra ribbing on the block? Quote
Medicine_Man Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 its quite confusing, it changes between motors depending if the are early or late and what it actually came out in.. My AW11 MR2 motor for instance (N/A version) has the big crank but no oil squirters. This AW11 though doesn't have the big crank or oil squirters. An AW11 4AGZE though has the big crank and oil squirters.. Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 got compression lock up? :lolcry: didnt some gze's not get oil squirters, and some silver tops too? Quote
Jono Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 my mate has a spare motor - its a 7-rib bigport from a late ae82 seca twincam. might have to inspect it a little closer. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 got compression lock up? :lolcry: didnt some gze's not get oil squirters, and some silver tops too? compession lock up.....?? you don't mean the drifting technique right.. because that has nothing to do with the engine or compession or locking Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 i don't mean anything as i was taking the piss.. ohwell i thought it was funny :lolcry: Quote
Teddy Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 Thats got what we call *get the warranty clerk out here* syndrome.... No wonder it wasn't running quite right? Quote
Trev Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 (edited) if it had a oil problem it would have run a bearing not snaped the crank. the oil level was full, pressure was oil & it had not long ago had a oil change. i think the crank had fault in it. all the other bearings look overrated except for the middle main which supplys that big end bearing, it looked like it had run low on oil, but still wasn't bad. I was referring to all the heat marks on the crank itself and the fact that it has what looks to be sludge build up in the block, When i worked for volvo mack restoration plant my job was to strip used engines down to the bare block and pull everything else fully apart and inspect the crank and so on, That 4age one to me looks as tho it didnt have adequate lubrication but thats just me. Trev Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Sorry about the grave dig but i thought i'd throw a pic up of what a 4age crank looks like when its well lubricated. Quote
Jono Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 i'm glad you dug this one up. yesterday i got a spare motor ( its disassembled) its a bigport, 7 rib block, GZE with no oil squirters. i haven't measured stuff yet but i think its got the smaller rods. whats the go with all the different combinations? anyone want to buy it? i bought it as part of a job lot of bits, but i was hoping it was going to be the smallport GZE with the beefier rods and oil squirters. Gen 1 GZE (bigport) had the smaller bigend and gudgeon pin diameter, I'm not 100% sure about the MR2/AE92 rod but i know the AE92 rods are alot bigger then the AE101 GZE and AE101 20v rod. Quote
philbey Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Another one for the Fatigue basket. Microscopic cracks form at a sharp radius, like when you get porosity (bubbles) or a sharp machined edge etc. Constant fluctuating load causes the crack to grow and grow and grow and BANG she's all over. Take a good look at the face that snapped - you'll see a shiny area with wavy lines across it, then a dull rough area. Quote
love ke70 Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 trev, little bit of scoring/bearing pickup on the no.1 (left hand) big end? Quote
