Medicine_Man Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 AE101 would be front wheel drive, plus the fact they have a different stud pattern and would require a different offset tyre even if you did manage to modify them on. not worth the mucking around, sell the leftovers of the front cut.. Redwarf Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 The direction I believe we are going with the 55 is Magna rotors and VT 4 spots. Rear are probably going to be Pintara. I understand it to be a reasonably easy conversion. I'll tell you in about a month. Quote
demuire Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 AE101 and AE71 are very different in the front suspension, and won't really be worth the effort. I'm using Pug 604 discs and Landcruiser calipers on the front and Bluebird discs on the back, was a fairly easy conversion. Quote
Jason Posted December 8, 2004 Author Report Posted December 8, 2004 Ok... My hands are killing me from sanding, gona take a break for a couple of days. But i want to start on the spoiler. I have already sanded it down to the gray plastic, do i just start spraying it, or do i have to prime it? Its just that the back is coming close to being finished. Quote
demuire Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Anything you're going to topcoat should be primed first. If it's bare metal you should use an etch primer, if it's flexible plastic you should use a plastic primer (I've only heard of plastic primer, I've never actually seen it sold). Anything else and I usually use primer filler just cause it helps to hide any imperfections. I hardly ever use primer surfacer these days. For your primer I'd say primer filler would be just fine. If you're painting white top coat try to find a light colored primer, will save you a lot of hassle later on. Quote
Jason Posted December 8, 2004 Author Report Posted December 8, 2004 Ahhh ok, yere i got white primer. It says you can use it on metal too. Quote
demuire Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 (edited) Yes, just that etch primer tends to stick better to bare metal than normal primer. Well, it's supposed to anyway... Edited December 8, 2004 by demuire Quote
Jason Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 (edited) With all this rain i was getting pissed my paint job on my spoiler was f@$king up!!! :insane: so i decided to take a break and do some panel beating :D I got the big back dint out that was good, its pretty smooth and you can't notice it. The other one was a slight curve on the from right panel. Off it came. Shocked to find some more bad news.. RUST AHHHHH Its quiet bad and goes all the way through the under panel, what should i do? Will i have to bog it up then slop some tyctal on there ? Side PS how do you remove the antenna cable !!! and my fingers are now all cut up Edited December 10, 2004 by Jason Quote
demuire Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Rust there is quite common. Make sure you get rid of all the rust (cut if it's really bad, or rust convert if it looks surfacy), then it's up to you how you want to fix it. Welding a patch back in is the "proper" way to do it, else fibreglass is probably the best bet. Not sure about the antenna cable, I don't have an AE71. Quote
Jason Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 (edited) OK, yere i figure how to get the antenna off there was the BIG nut on top of it! OK i might have to practice up on my welding as i want this to be real good, ill see if i can get my uncles. Ark ok? don't know any one with a MIG :insane: What do you recommend for rust converter? i know there heaps out there but I'm sure there would be one better than another? Edited December 10, 2004 by Jason Quote
demuire Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 MIG welder much nicer welds than an ARC. TIG even better :insane: I've got a MIG welder, but my welding is rather crap. I did weld up all the rust on my car, so I guess I can weld, but I won't claim to be any good at it at all. Most rust converters are very similar, they are pretty much some sort of acid. I'm using some stuff I got from Repco a little while ago, can't remember what brand it is now, but it seems to work. Don't get it on your hands, it's acid and it really stings! Or in your eyes, that's just all bad... Quote
Jason Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 (edited) Ok thanks looks like i have to convince some one to drive me to super cheap i need some more primer any way, it doesn't have to be a pretty weld the panel cover it :insane: Gah my mum want to put her car in the garage now! dam, so now i have to make space.... Still Plenty Of Room Edited December 10, 2004 by Jason Quote
demuire Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Still Plenty Of Room Hahahaaa, I know the feeling :insane: At least no one else in my house really uses the garage: Quote
