Â Tunnel is only 2 lanes in each direction, and train tracks = 2, so even then that would be 14, although someone would have to be a major idiot to include train tracks and a completely separate tunnel into the number of lanes on a bridge (technically there is a footpath too, and of course the steps over the arch too) Â What has most likely happened is that the original creator was US (where double-decker bridges are common, especially in New York), and read that the Warringah Freeway (the lead-up to the bridge) has 16 lanes, and the bridge was 8 lanes wide, and thus assumed that the other 8 lanes must be underneath.
