Well tomorrow I find out if all this work is worth the effort, and I must say I am a bit apprehensive.

I finally got the new master cylinder all fitted correctly with the purchase of a little fitting to screw into the front port, to allow me to use the standard Toyota brake line.

It is a brakequip part, BQ40A and a copper washer for anyone doing the conversion. M10x1.0 male-female adaptor.

Took the car for a run around the business park at work, and its very prone to locking front wheels. It had too much toe out I think so I took some of that back off and it became a bit more stable, but I think the new master cylinder might be over doing it.

That or the old tyres I have really are very old and don't have much grip. I am hoping with a good heat cycle in them tomorrow they will get a bit grippier and I will be able to stand on the pedal again like I was before, without fearing of flat spotting a tyre.

Front end is soo much stiffer than before. Wondering if I have over done it with the 325lbs (6kg) front springs. Will wait and see what it does at Sandown tomorrow. One of the gland nuts keeps coming loose, so I will have to keep an eye on that.

Sandown has been run and won.. Only 35 entries today so shed loads of track time if you had a reliable car... if......

The good - I came first in my class (lets ignore that there was only two cars in it and the other bloke was in a Laser!) A win is a win in my books!

The bad

1. The fan belt came off in my first run.. and she got damned hot before I noticed the temp gauge. If the friggin alternator was working I might have noticed the light, but hey its been on for three events. Really should have fixed that huh. Anyways put spare belt on, miss a session, but all good.

2. That alternator.. no chargey the batttery no more. Go to start car for second run. Click click click. Fug it. Jump it with my jump battery i bring with me for such occasions. All good off we go.

3. Go to leave for next session. Jump battery cactus (I have always known its only had one start in it at best, and have been "gunna" get a new one for ages. So push car out of the way. Pack everything up. Unhitch trailer. Drive to auto parts store. Buy $150 jump starter. Race back. Fire her up. Go out for another run.

4. After two more sessions, and lots of time idling the car waiting on the dummy grid, I cruise out and head out on to the track, only to run out of fuel 50m down the road. Idiot!! Get towed in having caused a red flag for stupidity. How embarassment.

5. After filling up, get another run and as they are now cycling people staight through no waiting, so line up for "just one more" - we had been speculating about how long the nearly flat battery would actually run the car without getting charge from the alternator - turns out just past turn 1. At least this time I didn't park in a place that would cause a red flag! Sigh....

The car rode the bumps a heap better, but it didnt translate into any more time.Shocks both bottomed out still, so wondering whether I need to go stiffer in the spring again, or get the shocks done again

Was in fact half a second slower. That could be the dodgy old free tyres I got... or the fact I am learning how hard I can push the brakes now.

Lots to do before Phillip Island on August 16th.

Will post some pics and video when I get them sorted.

Newsflash ! Hadn't seen my times from the last session. Last session last lap I did a 1.37.67 - 1.1 seconds faster than before. Whoo hoooo :) Much happier now.

Thanks to my support crew who were there taking photos too :)

I am thinking so at this stage.. it could potentially be better with better tyres, but at least for me, it very easily locked a front brake with very little pressure on the pedal.

That said the pedal was pretty low with the old master cylinder, so I am not sure what is the best option.

It might be different with a standard Corolla rear end too - mine has a T-series in it. Though that means I have bigger rear brakes and therefore should have less of an issue.

A brake proportioning valve would probably fix it too.

Yeah, i havent got mine on yet, don't think i will. ive had such a bad run trying to get it in, i just not going to bother.

My brakes kick in pretty well when pressed hard, not to the point it locks up though.

New tyres in my size are allegedly $300 plus each :)

Hi Adam, cars looking the goods. Just on tyres, I get mine from Traction Tyres in Rowville. They are the Australian distributer for Avon race tyres, among others and I use X Formular Ford tyres. They sell second hand (usually only one or two meetings old) for a fraction of new price. They also have heeps of IPRA second handers. Maybe you already deel with them, but if not Andrew a ring on 9764 2811 They are at 65 Kellets Rd. Cheers Paul.

Thanks heaps Paul. I will go visit him and see what he has to say - I have been just getting my tyres through the IPRA forum so far but I reckon it might be time to do something else :)
