Johno Posted March 28, 2009 Author Report Posted March 28, 2009 One of those plastic kitchen cutting boards with slots cut into it should do the trick if you either can't find one or not willing to fork out the 20 or 30 bucks for one Cheers, i might just buy one. I'm sure it would be a heap better than trying to use a plaster sander. Quote
roladude Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 So any updates? Or you just enjoying the new appartment  Quote
Budowski Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Hey will we see this beast in 2010 on the GOR? Quote
78_7kRolla Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 It's been a while since i've checked this thread. Progress looks awesome mate, shame about the flooding and muck everywhere. This beast is shaping up to be so so soo good. Keep at it. Matt. Quote

binclintonusa Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 (edited) I still have a lot of work to do on it, new grey carpet, paint the door trims, paint the inside roof and maybe later paint the car red? But for now I'm putting my time and effort into getting a RWC. I will keep you posted as I complete more work. ;) pret auto Edited June 9, 2009 by binclintonusa Quote
Murd 55 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 just for everyone. you NEED to use plastic prime on anything plastic, 2pac primer may seem like it will stick but it wont. even if u prime with plastic primer then use 2pak primer thats fine, but on raw plastic you need to use plastic primer, its designed for that purpose. with guide coat, you basically have repaired it already, so bogged up pinholes and whatnot, then primed, guide coat, which ever you choose to use, i use different types depending on what purpose and part of the car it is (on a repaired panel,on a car thats not masket, i would use dye - on a panel off the car or a fully primed bumper i would use the black paint, and after plastic priming something i generally use carbon, which is also used after blocking a repair panel to remove blocking scratches, very crucial. and for anyone who doesnt know, for 2pack in a solid colour as in white or red with no metalics you are fine to finish the panel off ready to paint in a 400 grit paper, but for anything metalic must be finished off in a 800 wet rub. Johno Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 A very small update for such a long time since last post, My Portable carport is getting pretty torn, I need to get the car out and get painted. I was starting to save for a paintjob but then the timing chain snapped on the ford so thats just cost me $2,500 so the paint job is going to be delayed for a while more. I did a bit of work on the weekend with the car, I put the panels on ready for towing. Quote
Doogs Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 with guide coat, you basically have repaired it already, so bogged up pinholes and whatnot, then primed, guide coat, Exactly. Just make sure you always use a block and you will be fine. Also, use biggest block you can (dependent on the size of the panel), and make sure it is kept nice and wet. Quote
Johno Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 I'm over the painting side of things. I tried, and tried again and its not working the way i want. I am just going to hand the car over to a Pro and get them to paint it. I tried to get out dents and no matter what i did you could always see a tiny little ripple in the panel. I can't afford a $5,000 job but i'm going to do it anyway. Everyone says I'm stupid and i should just get rid of the corolla. They said i could buy a EL Xr8 for the same money but this is a project Quote

Once I started priming things again I felt so much more motivated. I find laying down paint the most enjoyable part of the process, and once you get to that stage it is all downhill. Keep plugging away at it and you will be so glad when it comes together and you have done it yourself. Quote
Johno Posted July 11, 2009 Author Report Posted July 11, 2009 (edited) The weather has finally taken toll of my carport  THe whole roof and walls just toor apart in the wind. I just took out all the lights and leads and left the car there to rust away till i can afford a paintjob. Edited July 11, 2009 by Johno Quote
towe001 Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Heck man, don't let all your hard effort go to waste grab a tarp or a waterproof car cover or something to give the primer at least some protection. But yeah we've got friends down that way and they were just telling us before that their at the point of giving up on things cause of the wind and just let it all run its course - "what blows away, can stay away" Quote
JiP Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Just buy another carport thingo, a cheap car cover or even a tarp to go over the carport for now. What ever you buy is going to decay and eventually fall apart. No point buying an expensive cover. I've bought expensive covers for my cars and they've fallen apart. Just get a cheap one for now. Johno Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 The Carport I bought was never meant to last more than a year so its pretty much on time to break, lol I Had a really funny thought yesterday.. Tell me if I'm crazy ok? Ok, well the rolla is not really going anywhere atm, 5 grand is a fair bit of money for a old car. Its not a GT or a monaro. Its not a 2 door or a coupe or a FX or GTi. Its nothing special at all. Its just a run of the mill seca. I'm thinking of getting rid of it. I will keep all the parts and just scrap the rest. Buy a new AE82 S1 seca. One that has a nice body and good paint. This way i don't have to paint it and if i do just a blow over on the outside What do you think? Am i crazy? Quote
