I'm currently working on putting a rb25det into a vl commodore at work and I'm pretty sure the standard downpipe from the turbo is 3", I will measure it tomorrow.

i wasnt talkin bout sizes for a turb 1.6 just what id be doin. and bout legalities i'll dump it before the diff and keep the original muffler pointin out the back to make it look stock.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but thats illegal dude. Has to be 30cm past the most rearward opening window, which in your and my case is the rear quarter glasses.

 

raven. the inspector i spoke to (who has been a RWC inspector for about 20 odd years) before i got my side-pipe made, said that i should be fine even tho it is a window.

 

i offered up solutions, like fixing the opening lever so that it can't be used to open the window, or removing the lever and siliconing up the window and rubbers so that it would never be able to open again. he said just get it done and if i have any problems to see him after the event and we'll sort it out then.

 

it's one of those funny rules that swings 3 ways all at once!

 

oh, and in vic, it's only 40mm :D none of this 30cm crap...

i'll just dump it at the diff, it shouldnt be that much of a hassle anyway. OR i could run zoomies from behind the front wheel?? :D

Ive always run mine under the diff, about 130mm clearance from the ground, and keeps my engineer happy as well.

I've always know with the exhaust exit is that it the exhaust tip must be after the last opening into the cabin, in the case of the early model corolla it'd be the boot as being the last opening into the cabin.

Apart from that it's also the drivers attitude to getting pulled over. A mate had a Mk.1 Cortina at one stage, it had a side exit exhaust just under the passenger door and never once got a defect nor a "get that fixed" comment for it....

3 inch is a good size for the 4agte.

 

However in the old school corollas it can be a PITA!

 

I would suggest going under the diff by the looks of your setup.

You just need the right skills to keep it legal height.

 

Put atleast three joins in the exhaust makes removing sections much easier.

 

Could you end it just before the diff and put in a dummy section? A few cars use this method. Engineering could become an issue if its not already.

that exhaust is way to big for your car, unless you are constantly at 8000 rpm+.

 

it would be costing you power and torque.

 

you would only need 2 inch max for your application
