Hey all,

 

I am considering putting a Mitsubishi Saturn or Astron motor into my KE20, because

I may be able to get one dirt cheap.

(and know that parts are plentiful, along with a nice power output)

 

I have had a search, and was not surprised that there were no matches.

 

Could anyone who has had experience with these engines PM me ?

 

I am trying to find out a few things about the conversion, so it would be great to chat

to someone who has had experience with these motors.

 

I understand that engineering will most likely be necessary (if i am to keep it all legal).

That would be close relative of the 4g93 wouldn't it? See that in one of the other engine conversion threads.

Hey there... Check out your local speedway track... Odds are that someone there is running with an Astron engine. Performance of these things can be off the wall!

 

Also, lots of stuff from the 4G engines had different parts in different vehicles, but remains interchangable, so even if it looks like you might need to fab lots of stuff to get her to fit, check out the same engines in different cars, and you'd be surprised how much there is that can be easily changed around and swapped with nothing more than turning a few bolts.

 

but definately find someone in the dirt circle forums and see what can be done with these suckers...

I have to agree these motors are great for cheap power. A mate of mine drag raced his galant wagon with a astron motor with the magna head with turbo and it runs 10.50's.

 

I say do it. There was also one for sale on ebay about 3-4 months ago that looked like a piece of crap but had the hole conversion in there without cutting anything. :)

I dunno about the Astron, but the saturn is a 4G32.

 

I had a rebuilt Saturn 1600 in my old Galant and my George Foreman grill had more power than that thing.

 

 

I'd put a 4AC in over a saturn any day.

The saturn would be big enough, but i think may take a bit

of work to get in.

 

Not too sure about putting in an engine thats not a toyota one.....

(the purist in me appears to be surfacing)

can get great power figures from a bit of fiddling.

Is a 4AC an easy swap over? Would have thought it aint too hard.

Its not the worst idea I've heard, but doing engine conversions, just because they are cheap doesn't always lead to a good finished product. Engine swaps are never 100% straight forward, there's teething problems no matter what path you go down.

 

I'd recommend that you get your suspension and brakes in shape, and learn how to drive the car the edge. Meanwhile, save your penny's for an engine that suits your car a little better, and possibly a little more modern than 1970's technology.

Originally I was going for a warm 5k but have had a mate suggest

to go hotter.

He thinks a 5k is a rip for $500.

 

Though a hotter engine will take a bit of $ to get in.

 

Dunno yet, I am still inclined to stick with a 5k to start with.

Cam, portwork, extractors, carb.

my mate has a spare EFI 2.6 motor if you want it.

Still a little while off yet and also imagine a 2.6L astron would be

a bit big for a KE20 streeter (unless i want to be sideways round every corner!) probably would have

trouble getting it engineered and legal for me.

Thanks, after a bit of thought I think that 2L is probably the max I should go.

just because u have a 2.6l doesnt mean you will be sideways round everycorner...

My 4k ke70 is faster than my mates 4g32 saturn powered lancer and thats a 1.3 verse a 1.6. My 1.8 t18 is also faster than his 2.0 sigma.

 

The 2.6 is the only decent engine to come in sigma's.
