July 17, 200818 yr comment_261885 smeg that would really be a bitch to fix! ye when i say the same i mean in size..? i guess some will be lighter/heavyer... but will they all fit the same...? cheers Oh haha yea basically. The clutches are slightly different between the two weights of flywheels but will work with any of the K gearboxes. Report
July 18, 200818 yr comment_261903 Yep there the ones I was talking about Jono. Look how straight the ring gear is!!! Just to clarify the differences in flywheels between models..... All K flywheels have the same bolt pattern on the back of the crank from K - 7K. K - 4K all use a 180mm clutch plate (even if the GB input spline is smaller) so are all interchangable. I am not sure on weight differences between them however. 5K from KM20 liteace van uses a 200mm clutch plate, so the flywheel has a bigger contact area. These Flywheels can be used to fit a K-T50 (with T18 clutch kit), or a K-W50 (with km20 clutch kit), but there is no clutch available to use them with a K40 or K50. KR42R Townace 7K's have a 215mm clutch plate/flywheel. These fly wheels can only be used with a K-W50 or the K-W56 from the townace, both using the KR42R clutch kit. Report
July 18, 200818 yr comment_261958 Hi, The difference also in a K motor clutch is early KE1X and 2X flywheels have a 2 dowel mount for the pressure plate. Later KE30 to 70 has 3 dowel pins to locate it. Also on the early flywheel it has a different pressure plate and smaller gear box input spline can't mix a early pressure plate with late model clutch plate. Also between KE10 ad a KE15/7 sprinter the KE15/17 got a higher clutch binding pressure was like 60 lbs tighter so the clutch slipped less. Also another difference. There are actually quite a few differences in the K motor flywheel when you look from the start to KE70 and the vans. Cameron Report
July 18, 200818 yr comment_261962 I didn't go into the clutch side of things so much as this thread was about flywheels...... Hi, The difference also in a K motor clutch is early KE1X and 2X flywheels have a 2 dowel mount for the pressure plate. Later KE30 to 70 has 3 dowel pins to locate it. Also on the early flywheel it has a different pressure plate and smaller gear box input spline can't mix a early pressure plate with late model clutch plate. Are the 2 dowels for the KE1X-KE2X at like 12 o'clock and 4 o'clock? As the KE3x-KE5X are 12, 4, and 8. If so, you could still swap them around just one of the holes wouldn't have a dowel in it. Although the KE1X-2X has the smaller input shaft the clutch plate is still 180mm. Just need to use the one with spline to suit the box you're using. Also between KE10 ad a KE15/7 sprinter the KE15/17 got a higher clutch binding pressure was like 60 lbs tighter so the clutch slipped less. This is only a different pressure plate, wouldn't effect what flywheel you used. Also another difference. There are actually quite a few differences in the K motor flywheel when you look from the start to KE70 and the vans. Cameron Report
July 18, 200818 yr Author comment_262092 thanks heeeeaps for the info guys! :hmm: well iv got myself a stock flywheel on the way so now i just need to find somewere in adelaide that machine them down, ye iv also ordered myself a new clutch kit  oooo exited hehehe, so I'm asking adelaide kids where abouts can i get my flywheel machined..? need to no asap..? cheers, haydo Edited July 18, 200818 yr by ke rollin 20 Report
July 19, 200818 yr Author comment_262236 ok so harbor parts in victor have a place they use to get stuff machined so I'm just handing the flywheel there way  just unsure of what i should get it machined down to..? ya obviously don't wanna go down to much ay, any suggestions?? I'm thinkin like 4kg's...... i dunno is the lighter the better, i guess the lighter the higher the revs ay...but the more you take off then the more likely it is to crack and/or shoot threw ya bonnet ay...hah cheers. July 19, 200818 yr comment_262242 thats way smegen light mate take it in and say how low can ya go with it. youd have smeg all chance of getting it down to 4 in my opinion. the big dollar ones arnt much less than that. they will know whats a safe amount to take out if theyre a good shop. the lighter you go the more of a prick it will be to drive, my 1g used to stall at the drop of a hat and the flywheel was still heavy, so be careful  cheers, andrew Report
July 19, 200818 yr comment_262245 The JUN ones 3.9 and thats specially made. I'm with love_ke70, I really doubt you'll see 4kg. Report
July 20, 200818 yr Author comment_262461 ok then..haha well i guess ill ask them what will be a good amount to take off then. :fuzz: cheers for the info. Report
July 22, 200818 yr comment_262906 ok then..haha well i guess ill ask them what will be a good amount to take off then. gday haydo go light with the fly wheel. if ya can get a k motor to put the fly wheel through the bellhousing. i will eat my hat.to thin they cook them selves, and the clutch anyway. stick with stock flywheel bolts, these will brake way before you ever touch the border line with the flywheel. you may loose the lumpy idle.a well tuned car should idle without trying to jump out of the engine bay.bad tune. the wait in a stocker fly wheel keeps it spinning at low revs. with cam an light fly wheel your idle should end up at about 900 to 1100 revs.if tuned RIGHT. July 22, 200818 yr comment_262929 with cam an light fly wheel your idle should end up at about 900 to 1100 revs.if tuned RIGHT. yeah the idle in my gemini went up a little once i got the flywheel lightened. from bout 750, to 900-950rpm. Report
July 22, 200818 yr comment_262993 HEHE hint why use stock K motor crank bolts to hold it on. If you look 4age crank bolts are the same as K motor. ARP make a set of nice bolts strong as for 4age flywheel to crank can buy them bolt into a K motor no worries and nice and strong and peace of mind to. Another thing you can also do while flywheel is off send clutch to the machine shop also with it and get them to balance it together. Did this on a TA22 much nicer clutch plate is marked so you can always install the clutch the same way to keep the balance so also another idea you might do while the flywheel is off. Cameron Report
July 24, 200818 yr comment_263433 HEHE hint why use stock K motor crank bolts to hold it on. Race motors blow big because there are no weak links. if nothing gives, it all goes.trust me could be a crank rod out through the side, maybe fly wheel. Lots of options.if nothing goes wrong the stock bolts should hold the flywheel on as the manufacturer intended.plus being lightened the bolts have half the job to do. Report
