Cheers all for the kind comments much appreciated.

Now I have to put some rubber on the jelly bean mags and it should really set it off. then it's off to focus on the handling a bit more (money money & more money lol).

Also thought i'd add that JIP's Lolla the yellow rolla lives on in this car, a few of it's part were put on this one

Well a bit of an update, you may have read i have been having some cooling issues which have luckily been sorted (so far!!!) . I have put some pics up of how stuffed the old radiator was, It seemed to be fine on the outside but behind the shroud was terrible and it seems the first hot day around here tested it. So put in a brand new one (not reco brand new) also discovered the last one had only been put in 2004 which doesn't seem that old probs a reco. So after that and a new thermostat it runs with the needle on 1/2 way at 100km/h (note this is on 35 deg celcius days).

Also some more pics with an extra car in the mix, it's not a rolla but I'm sure you will appreciate it's looks. It belongs to my childhood second set of grandparents (babysitters/extra family) and i grew up cruising around in style.

the old one had plenty of build up which also compounded the problem

Stuffed radiator, feel apart running a screwdriver down it, I would be going and checking behind the shroud even if your rad looks fine

well bloody done mate :hmm: for so being motivated after some tight schedule from uni.

Cheers mate, Yeah uni was hectic, but holidays are on and the rolla is back in full swing with the addition of funding that part time job supplies :(

Anyway on that note I have another update for the project. Been busy collecting parts for the Rolla as I'm getting more and more determined to have this thing handling good. Cheers "Curly" for the stream of parts so far,

So here is what i have been gathering, got a auto borg warner from a late model coupe which means rear swaybar :hmm: and also got the 22mm front swaybar. and as per pic below i have got some spare springs to play with.

Also the BW auto ke55 coupe diff should be 4.33:1 right ? so will be faster take off then my manual jap diff ?. So the combo will be a 5 speed k50 to make the highway speeds bearable but the 4.33:1 should be faster take off.

I am assuming I'm right here but tell me if I'm wrong or correct in my assumptions so far, need some help because i have a feeling that i got this wrong. (worst that can happen is I get good fuel consumption.lol)

The back of the parts carrying mobile ( a magna that dropped 5th & reverse 1/4 of the way on the 400km trip to get the parts, had to drive in 4th on highway :lolcry: )

Finally got some brand new glass put in

Well got busy yesterday morning and fitted the BW diff and shocks, heaps less noise and drives a lot better. Will probs have to do some more adjusting to the brakes and fit new wheel cylinders but otherwise the change was a success. also realized i have none of the original driveline that was in the the car when i purchased it, and have done a lot of mixing and matching ( this car has been a mechanical learning accelerator). now i need to figure out the mounting position for the rear swaybar and fit up the 22mm front bar, then car should be starting to go alright. Also going to have to start saving for the front shocks etc. Hillclimb is starting to become a closer reality, finally

Cheers, Jacob

P.S i will have to put up my list of what this project has cost me so far, yes i did account every peny spent, some may say this is unwise but I'm sure all wanting to build budget cars will appreciate it.

Update time, had a massive score yesterday and got a downdraft weber given to me  . Kinda a cool story, about a year ago my dads cousin said that he had a carby lying around in the shed that i could have. sure enough when he came back up for holidays a year later he had a nice gift with him (many thanks). turns out it is a 32/36 DGAV weber carby with lynx ramflo filter and all, was last running on a dato 1200. Looks to be in great nick as I'm sure the picks will show.

absolutely stoked.

Well it been ages since any Updates, so here it is

Things that have been done:

The rolla is now my daily schweet (sold a car now in down to one). finally, its cool as and kinda scary at the same time relying on a 35yr old car. But overall I have been enjoying just driving it around everyday.

All my overheating problems were in fact a blown head gasket resulting from a stuffed radiator in the first place (brand new one now!!!). so fixed that and cleaned all the head up while i was at it car obviously runs miles better.

Since replacing the the Diff to borg warner 4.33:1 (heaps better, really good combo with manual 5 speed and 4k engine) the brakes needed a fix up so. Today got busy and chucked in a new set of wheel cylinders, brakes work good now.

Also got the Rolla rego'd for another year. So more cruising to be done.

And "customised" it lol with a chrome air filter and a set of driving lights.

Things that are happening in next few days:

Well just ordered four good quality 14x6 195/60 tyres and 16 chrome mag wheel nuts (expensive buggers). So will be putting the jelly bean mags on very soon. should make cornering a bit better

Hopefully may get a chance to get a full 1' 3/4" exhaust made up for the extracters back. depending on how soon I have to head away for again for university.

Chucking some new seats in. and replacing all the interior plastic trims.

Plans for the future:

Get the following suspension set up:

- Heavy duty gas KYB or monroe shocks all round.

- Extra leaf and reset to same height

- two inch lowered Kings springs

-fit the larger front and rear sway bars, i still have waiting in the garage.

- Install fronts struts (another spare part waiting for me to get around to it), with larger calibers/brake pads and possibly longer control arms.

- Nolethane bushes for everything i can afford.

Engine rebuild (luckily I have a spare to tinker with):

- I have got a really good nick head to start with so will be, port & polish, full reco +valves etc, heavier or double valve springs

-Clean up the spare block and paint

- 268 degree cam grind

- 40 thou oversize pistons

-all new bearings and balance everything the budget can handle

-get the 32/36 dyno'd and jetted properly

-Install and get some hillclimb and track time.

So yeah have some plans to inspire myself, I'd say they will get ticked of slowly but at least eventually it will get there.

I'll try put some pic's up with the new wheels soon. Cheers

Well it's been ages ( two long anyway) since much has been done to the car. At the moment the funds are a bit dry but i have been doing plenty of kilometres in it as my daily drive.

Thought i'd chuck up a pick with the new wheels (handles much better) and lights. Took the car for a bit of a trip up the local hills.

Well it's been a while since i have done anything to the car other then drive around in it so today i got some attention. Have had nil time for ages so happy to spend some time getting it looking a bit better.

First put in some new brake pads, and outer tie-rod end, wheel alignment and a service

Then got started on the installation project. I plan to completely redo the interior as it looks fairly ratty.

anyway here are some pics
