trav_555 Posted June 9, 2009 Author Report Posted June 9, 2009 I'm over it. If you don't have anything constructive to say don't say it. My writing style is better than most and no one is perfect. Also Ive just been awarded $1000 from the apprenticeship board for doing my apprenticeship. So that will go towards the engine build, Ive decided this week when i get payed the rest of the money for my Microtech ive sold it will be going towards some quad headlights and possibly madhouse lip and chrome bumpers and fender mirrors. Cheers. Travis Quote
trav_555 Posted June 14, 2009 Author Report Posted June 14, 2009 Alright, this is what i amde this weekend. Alot of hours went into building this. Around 12 hours. And here it is polished up: It is made from 5mm plate and 20mm SOLID aluminium bar, this is by far stronger and more sold than anything you can buy off the shelf, and possibly lighter too. Yuo can also see in the photos that I test fitted the intake I modify'd to RWD, works a treat, fits under the bonnet really nicely  And yes I put the 4age in it, but don't get your hopes it I already took it back out. Tomorow this car goes in to get ALL rust removed, I'm expecting a bill of around the 1000 dollar mark, but the guy I'm getting to do it does a supurb job. Next weekend I will most likely be either making the rest of the manifold for the ITB's or will be making braces for under the front fenders. Cheers. Travis. Quote
dbr11k Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 top work ! is that the 1000 you get awarded to buy tools with ? if it is than you know you have to give that back if you ever get th sack lol Quote
trav_555 Posted June 14, 2009 Author Report Posted June 14, 2009 Nah man not that, its a wage top up. I already got the tools for the trade like 2 years ago :hmm: Cheers for the comments  Travis. Quote
trav_555 Posted June 15, 2009 Author Report Posted June 15, 2009 Alright. Well I took the car up to the panel beaters today to get the rust done etc etc. And he didnt show..... All day..... So I had to kart the car back to the workshop, now I wont be able to take it back to him till thursday.... Ahh well you get that I guess. Today I was polishing cam covers and finishing off the ITB Intake manifold, unfortunately the power cut out.... So it was only a very mild day for progress.... No pictures. Travis. Quote
SLO-030 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 top work ! is that the 1000 you get awarded to buy tools with ? if it is than you know you have to give that back if you ever get th sack lol Usually the tools for your trade money comes through at the 6 month mark. You only have to give them back if you quit before the 9 month mark. after that, they're yours  Quote
trav_555 Posted June 16, 2009 Author Report Posted June 16, 2009 Exactly Ryan, and I would be keeping them anyway as I'm doing my trade with my father. Update: I took out the tailshaft tonight so it would be easier too tow to panel beaters  instead of clunking around :sob: :y: :P But I'm going to take it up tomorow morning, he better turn up this time 8/ So yea shes getting some progress I guess. 350dream Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 8/ lol stich welding lol  or did u mean tack so sheetys get taught to weld these days lol!!! :sob: good luck with the build :y: Quote
orangeLJ Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 8/ lol stich welding lol  or did u mean tack so sheetys get taught to weld these days lol!!! :sob: good luck with the build :y: I'm confused? Welding the chassis in that way is called stitch welding, due to the fact you do small runs with spaces (like a sewing machine stitches) instead of one solid weld. If one weld decides to crack, the whole lot are less likely to follow suit. Where as if its one large seam weld, then you run the risk of developing cracks that run the length of the weld (fatigue over time etc) Quote
Tume Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Thought another main reason for stitch welding is to stop it from overheating and loosing its strength? As stitch welding can be stronger. Trav, did you end up having the guy show today? Quote
trav_555 Posted June 17, 2009 Author Report Posted June 17, 2009 8/ lol stich welding lol  or did u mean tack so sheetys get taught to weld these days lol!!! :sob: good luck with the build :y: You obviously know shit all about welding, do you realise how much heat goes into a welded area? Its called a heat affected zone for f@$ks sake, go ahead and fully weld up, no gaps the entire seams of your car, I f@$king dare you. I garuntee I have more experiance than most other kids my age with welding, and yes sheety's are taught how to weld, Yea cause a car is made of the same shit a boiler welds everyday right? its made of 30mm thick panels right? NO there made of the same size material as sheety's work with everyday. And I'm not a sheety, I'm doing both apprenticeships, I walk out next year with a trade in boiler making and a trade in sheet metal. So go suck on a fat-one. Your a dick. Both Orange LJ and Tume are correct. And yea man he showed, gonna cost $1800 to get rid of every bit of rust on the car. over double the original quote, O the f@$k well. Travis. Quote
trav_555 Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 OK New plan. I'm putting in the JDM 4age as this: Stock with a cut and shut manifold (need to make), stock rwd exhaust manifold, heavy duty clutch (need to get), toda 3.9kg flywheel, and possibly aftermarket ecu/I will figure out the stock ecu i have sitting around somewhere. Do all previously planned suspension modifications, get body smick and Jdm stylin. Then build the spare engine i have sitting on the garage floor :y: That way I can skid quicker and get the black car off the road, I mean seriously Its either do that or wait till ive built the 4age which would take the same amount of time, maybe 2 weeks shorter. I think its logical. Cheers. Travis. Quote
benzo Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 JDM Yoooo!!!! Just put in stock 4age with a bit of an exhaust and a pod and stock ecu do suspension, but gradually. don't do everything at once don't worry about bodywork, you can make it fully jdm yo if you want but its gonna get banged up while you learn to drift Thats logical Cheers, Ben.
