altezzaclub Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Do you need two sender units? Throw the T-piece away and use one in the hole. Quote
Evan G Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 i wanna keep the stock oil switch as a "just incase". i wonder if you hook up the stock oil pressure light to the variable pressure sender? Quote
Trev Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 i wanna keep the stock oil switch as a "just incase". i wonder if you hook up the stock oil pressure light to the variable pressure sender? The light will stay on dull. Quote
Evan G Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 The light will stay on dull. i mite just use the oil pressure sender and earth out the stock wire Quote
Sloth Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 I did the oil pressure sensor in my Silvertop about 2 weeks ago. Was quite messy, covered the engine bay in oil and left a nice puddle on the side of the road. Was told by the mechanic who installed the engine I needed to have the part originally to the car (and dash) not the engine or else the oil pressure gauge wouldn't work. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 I personally wouldn't get rid of the stock oil pressure light on the dash when fitting an oil pressure guage, just for some extra piece of mind. It lights up right in front of you and is hard to miss. No oil pressure is the easiest way to kill a motor. Either use a stainless steel t-piece so it won't crack like that, or maybe see if you can get an oil pressure guage that still has a 'no pressure' light in it like a shift light. Quote
jaygore Posted June 24, 2010 Author Report Posted June 24, 2010 Consider this a flaming rob haha. That brass fitting looks like the standard VDO oil pressure sender T Piece. Interesting, I have the same item due to be fitted, am having second thoughts about it though!! Ezy outs will get that out no worries, take the whole oil filter mount off as mentioned and do it on the bench. That oil would have been spraying EVERYWHERE! ouch. Yea Philbey, there is a huge clean up job ahead of me now also i was planning on taking that whole oil filter section off before attempting anything any way so that shouldnt be an issue at all.. I am just going to go with what Simon recommended and go to enzed and get a stainless steel t piece Also I am unsure why that earth is there but i do have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge maybe thats what is part of it?? I bought the car like this so I am unsure of any of this  Quote
philbey Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 The problem is that these fittings are funny mixes of sizes; probably a 1/8 GAS (or BSP) and a 1/8 NPT. I looked around quite a bit and that brass sucker is about all I could find.... Quote
jaygore Posted June 24, 2010 Author Report Posted June 24, 2010 ohhhh well maybe i will have to go for the brass one then... hmmmmmmm... i will head up to enzed and see what they can do for me Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 That earth is the main motor earth that carries the starter motor current back to the chassis I think. Once I moved the battery to the driver's side I put that striaght on the battery terminal. Quote
jaygore Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 oh my battery is in my boot... hmmmm also does anyone know what the t piece is actually called?? Quote
ke70dave Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 called a T-peice! hehe its not a toyota item, its from a hydraulic shop. youll need to go to a hydraulic shop to get another. i suggest you take all the bits you need to join (the oil filter thing (once you get that bit snapped off bit out), pull that off your engine, and both your senders) just plonk it all on your their desk, and say i need to join all these three things together. they will sort you out. there is so many different threads out there, its not worth trying to work them all out, the guys at the they hydrayulic shop deal with them every day so they know what they are doing. Quote
jaygore Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 hahaha ok then sounds good, just was going to call them up before going in, cos as i do not have a car I'm relying on buses (which i may add is absolute hell!!!!) so i shal take it all in and make them give me a new one, hopefully they don't cost too much haha Quote
