I was wondering if there was at all anyway i can get a car resprayed for less then a $1000. I will be rebadging with custom badges at a later date so that doesnt matter a lot all panels are straight no rust work and no panel work needed at all. all i need is a sand and spray orignal colour.

Supply the paint - Cost me around $400 with spare leftover, sand it all up prep'd for painting, find a good shed or something without dust and that has good wind cover, get the heaters cranking and then find a friend or just someone with a bit of painting skill and mask it up for them and get them in to spray it one day

Chat to a few spraypainters- you do all the stripping of the car and sanding, they undercoat, then you sand that back for them to topcoat.

Cost me $800 for 3/4 of the car as shown here, everything except the passenger's side. I took any part that showed a spot of rust back to bare metal. The panelbeating business had done work for me on another car, but we are by no means 'mates'.

it costs me around $400 for a basic solid color on the cars i do, as i used to work for the people that paint mine, all i pay for is trade price for all the sand paper, paint etc and paint booth time. the guy who paints mine for me is a pretty close mate so doesnt charge a thing except a favor in return usually.

My new rolla is dark grey and seeming as its been in cronulla for 21 years it's paint is absolutely rooted. I'm replacing passenger front door and bogging the boot. But was hoping to find some way of getting the same colour cheap. Is there anywhere in Melbourne that does cheapy resprays.

i think the only chance you have of meeting 1k is do all the prep work then hand it to a back yarder and supply the paint. dark grey is that metallic. if so your looking at clear as well as a more expensive paint. i prepped a mates escort. every thing pulled apart, primed and sanded. i got him to hire a booth and the dude that owned it at a shop said he would spray it for 280. that job was under the 1k mark but the offer was never extended again. ive always sprayed my own cars. did use acryllic but now use 2k as i think its better. i did once hand a ute to a spray shop as i worked flat out and didnt have the time. again totally stripped primed and ready. they supplied paint and booth and it was 1500. the big issue is your asking profesional shops to do something dodgie for under 1k. as a minimum most would quote 2 days to strip all essential bits, tape, prime sand then add the cost of the spray booth and paint. so 16hr @ 77= 1200 odd plus booth and paint. usually some shops don't use any unkown paint as it could cause more probs. 2days prep from go to whoa is pushing it as these shops put there name on a car and don't want it coming back with faults. let us know how ya go. it pays to shop around alot. also alot of fellas that work behind the counter at the paint stores are painters, used to be painters or are well set up to do back yarders so there worth asking.

just have a crack at it.

i did a few yrs ago, turned out great with only using cheap tools (a borrowed compressor and a $90 spray gun, 300 in paint, and a week of labour)

btw: painting is the easy part, sanding and prep is the time consuming part.

You get what you pay for as said prep =time=money etc etc.As you said panels are straight until a painter looks at them .

They tend to see thinks that mere mortals don't.

I'm lucky as i have a mate with a panel shop and he just shakes his head at my idea of prep and my straight panels.(rubed back with a brick did we) :no2:

I would do the prep my self ,then let the painter tell you if its right or not.

Watch out for hot rodders as the next day i came back to pick up my car it had big ass stripes all over it ,the boys got pissed and thought they would bling it up a bit.

bloody hot rodders :lolcry:

Lol at the hot rodders. I used to have the hatchback and now I've got the liftback. And I've been seeing a million hatchbacks around and it's making me miss my old car. Was thinking about selling mine soon and buying another hatch. And then I'll see how the paint looks on that
