Medicine_Man
12.1v is your battery voltage, so yes, the battery is not charging..
kickn5k
Dodgey reg? Medicine_Man
ideally it should regulate at around 14.3v but that is all dependant on lots of other factors..
Alexrx7
ive got the charge light wire from the plug on the back of the alternator hooked up to a random 12v ignition source because i couldnt find where to connect it to the light itself could that be a problem??. Medicine_Man
it probably would, yes, put it back to standard.. D+ on the back of the alternator..
ae824ate
Yeah, as said 13.8V-14.2V is the normal, and ideal charging voltage. "it probably would, yes, put it back to standard.. D+ on the back of the alternator.." And this too.
altezzaclub
You do have a chance to set it all on fire..... Don't pick the wrong wire! You'd be better to get an auto electrician to look at it, or get the 4AGE AND the KE70 wiring diagrams and look at them carefully.
Alexrx7
Ive been looking up info and a guy has hooked the charge light wire from the alternator to the positive terminal on the coil as this is an ignition switched source. Does this sound dodgy to anyone?
Medicine_Man
its fine if you put a diode in-line with the wire to D+ otherwise when the alternator is still spinning making voltage on D+ the car will try to run on when you turn it off.. Figjam14
isnt a battery 12.66V?
Hiro Protagonist
isnt a battery 12.66V? Approximately, yes. The alternator puts out a higher voltage though to charge the battery, usually in the 14V range.
