  1. wow, nice work :)
  2. exactly! people should HAVE to do defensive driving courses. my mum's bf runs those and it's amazing the stories he tells me. i would say well over half the people on the road don't understand the simplest things about their car. during braking exercises, most of them back off when the ABS kicks in, because they think their brakes are broken. not to mention "what's that squealing noise around the corners?" i also fully support regular driver tests to keep your license, every 5 or 10 years you should have to drive around with an instructor in the car with you i think there should also be a more lax attitude to minor speeding offenses. doing 3km/h over is a slight mistake like coming down the other side of a hill - not 3 points and $197. obviously, doing 20km/h over is intentional and may be duly dealt with. i also think that if you get caught drunk driving, you shouldn't have a license again for 5 years, there's just no excuse for it higher speed limits on our runway-quality highways would be nicer, but let's take it one step at a time if you empower drivers by giving them responsibility and educating them properly, then they should hopefully not abuse the leeway they're given. it works in europe, it works in japan, why not here?
  3. stuff that matters
  4. my daily is an econovan. don't give me any ideas :) i think it would actually be hard to roll a van on a low traction surface, and they have no weight in the back, so they're easy as to slide in light truck tyres HOWL like a bitch too :D
  5. where you hear that? apparently they are as well? it's on the internet, it must be true :)
  6. a 1985 corolla would want to be gold plated to be worth 15 grand :)
  7. hey you stole this from slashdot :)
  8. some people in australia think modified ae86s are worth $15k
  9. i think that's telSTAR :) imagine a telstra engine. put your foot down and it sounds like a ringing phone
  10. http://www.toycrazy.net/tech/struts.html seek and ye shall find :) there's also a toymods tech article, but they use mx62 brakes http://www.toymods.org.au/sprinter_front_brakes/
  11. except something tells me that 1g-gte ke70's ke70 doesn't have a 4k :) engines are usually $1500 from an importer. or if you get a new set of rods, i want first option to buy your old set of 5, as they fit into 4Ks :D
  12. :) :D :P :) :D :D :angrybird: :fuzz: :fuzz: :fuzz: the nerd alarm is going off a mate of mine actually sat down once and made one of those amateur lightsaber videos, of him cutting sick in the backyard with one of my golfclubs. it looked just like the real thing. last i heard, he was still a virgin
  13. *drool* how much FUN would that be! gotta save those pics onto my phone
  14. gearbox plugs are huge, i had to buy a socket just for draining boxes. there are at least 3 different engine sump bolt heads. i also just drain the box out the bottom and full thru the shifter hole like zigen. i've ever even taken a filler plug out of a K box :)
  15. cressida struts into a corolla is easy, 14mm balljoint thread. there are two types of cressida strut, 90mm base pattern and 112mm base pattern. make sure you use cressida power steer arms, they're about the same length as ke70 arms, and 5mm shorter than ke30/55 arms
  16. yes, ae82 fx-gt rear discs pretty much bolt up
  17. interesting point. keep in mind it was probably hooked up to a massively oversize trd 4k in a starlet, and hence using massively oversize head gasket i did notice the shallow combustion chamber though, i would assume it's a 4k-e or 4k-u head, which would be likely, given its' japanese past
  18. yeah, hicas is wierd to get sideways with. my mate mitch has an r33 gts-t with basic mods. if you nail it the right way, the lsd kicks in and both wheels spin, the car kicks sideways and the hicas corrects, but overcorrects, then tries to correct that, and overcorrects again. you end up driving down the road, front wheels pointed straight, back just constantly fishtailing side to side until you back off and grab traction
  19. it's illegal, unless you can pass an EPA test proving that your car with the new setup meets the emissions levels of the ADRs applicable to the 4age engine year. i don't know how possible this would be, but i don't like your chances you also can't put a older engine into a car, so you'll have to get a 4a-c that's the same year or newer than your ae71 if you're talking about sidedraft webers, you'll have a hard time maxing them out with a little 4A, even if you revved it to 9. i'd say you have nothing to worry about
  20. good on you :) nice cheap intro into amateur motorsport. have heaps of fun and let us know how you go! :D
  21. today i had to stop fairly quickly for traffic banked up around a corner. i lightly applied the brakes and eased them on, not steering too much and coming to a clean halt. the laser in front of me tottally locked them up and lost steering, crossing into the other lane. if there was oncoming traffic, she would have been f@$ked. the magna behind me did the same thing. it got me thinking how f@$king shithouse the government is at educating drivers i know not to slam the brakes on and steer full lock in the wet because i'm a car enthusiast and i understand handling and grip limits. these drivers obviously weren't, and have been taught that if you stay under the speed limit and give way, you'll be fine. it reminds me of a tv show where a young english girl was learning to drive a manual with her mother, who was a complete idiot. the girl kept stalling and she kept asking "argh, why does it do that?!" maybe a little bit of education on how the car works would have given her a better grasp over the clutch, instead of just "oh push this pedal in when you're stopping" it's a good mantra, which is gaining more public awareness, WE NEED BETTER DRIVER EDUCATION! enforcing speed limits doesn't do anything, in fact, the average speed a motorist drives at in australia has dropped by 6km/h in the last decade, however accidents keep going up. the government makes f@$king MILLIONS from speeding fines from fixed cameras alone, never mind police issued infrigement notices. and how much gets put back into educating drivers as to how to act more safely on the road and avoid accidents if things do go wrong? $0.00! if you think this is interesting and agree, have a look at http://www.speedingisbullshit.com/ it's a site filled with news articles and good arguments that "every k over ISN'T a killer" and mass speed camera crackdowns just make people focus 99% of their attention on the speedo, and 1% on the road, instead of the otherway round, like it should be
  22. hahaha, copycat :)
  23. puts the mid back into mid engine! certainly one way to take care of a rusty old ke70 :)
  24. like everything else good on yahoo jp auctions, but LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE PORTS!!! my god you could lose a kitten in them! it basically says it's an old 4k head from back in the days of TRD. it has twin valve springs, bronze valve guides, 7mm valve stems and berillyum valve seats. apparently this head could make 170ps on the trd stage 3 motor. i don't know how true that is, but if you don't know how to build the rest of the motor, don't buy the head. no guarantees it's a good working head, no refunds given. the valves are aftermarket, inlet 39mm, exhaust 32mm the auction hasn't reached reserve yet. it's had a relisting.
  25. for a 3k, i think you might want HS2 1.25" carbs, or a single HS4 1.5". twin HS4s are pretty borderline for a worked 4K. you'd put twin HS2s on a worked 1100 mini engine as much as they don't have the best mixture qualities, i still have a soft spot for the twin aisan carbs on corolla sprinter manifold, you can find them from time to time, usually $250 or so
