Did some work on the motor for this car on the week end. Have made a decision on the 4x4 idea: If I get the sierra running gear at a price I'm happy with, it won't be going in this car, I will buy a ke38 wagon for it. The reason, it's all well and good to have the 4x4 stuff under a sedan, but when it comes to practicallity, The van will hold 4 or 5 people + 4 peoples worth of stuff for camping in the back of the wagon!! The wagon also has a lot more roof area if I also want to put roof racks on it. Anyway, got the 3k off leigh on Saturday, stripped it back to a bare block. Took the 3k head in for machining this morning, won't bother porting it yet. Painted crank pulley, water pump pulley, oil cap and lower half of thermostat housing matt black. Painted tappet cover, timing cover, top half of thermo housing, fuel pump and oil filter mount "aluminium" - same colour as the dash in the good car. Got all the gaskets to put it back together, so will probably have this motor built later in the week. Just gotta wait for the head to come back. Will get some pics up soon. :P
  2. Saw the Merc sitting out the front the other day, looks pretty neat! Should build that thing up as a burnout beast!! turn a few heads :P Are those camber tops for a rolla or something else? what brand are they?
  3. so how long till the twin SU's are fitted!? :jamie: :o
  4. listen to the commentator ask if anybody in the crown has been hit!! :jamie:
  5. You can use a fuel only or fuel and ignition computer. If you had fuel and ignition you want a electronic dizzy, either 4/5k one, or don't forget about 7ke parts, they have an even more modern dizzy that is ECU controlled!! If you use a fuel only ECU, it just takes a pulse from the negative side of the coil (same signal tacho uses) to fire the injectors, so you can still use a points dizzy for this. However, if you are going to the effort of converting a K to EFI, it would still be a bit backward using the points dizzy , but the option is there. :jamie: 5K is 1500cc. :o Injectors: the 4ke uses pissy 145cc, 2.4 ohm (light green) injectors. They have a total power potential of 29hp each, ie 116hp (flywheel) or 85kw. this wouldn't be too bad on an NA STOCK motor, but if you are going to force induct it, or any head work or cams etc you're gunna start pushing the injectors. Which type of 4age injectors do you have? theres 6 types! Nippon Denso, 182cc, dark grey 2.0 ohm, 36.4hp each Nippon Denso, 200cc, pink, 2.7 ohm, 40.0hp each Nippon Denso, 210cc, blue, 2.4 ohm, 42.0hp each Nippon Denso, 213cc, beige, 13.8 ohm, 42.6hp each Nippon Denso, 250cc, green, 13.8 ohm, 50.0hp each Nippon Denso, 250cc, violet, 13.8 ohm, 50.0hp each Doesn't matter too much which ones you have, but if they are some of the higher impedance (13.8 ohm) ones, they will be easy to wire and configur. 4age throttle body will work, but its not going to be huge upgrade on the 4ke as it will still have a restriction were it goes into the actual plenum. To make the very most of a bigger thottke body you really need to make a custom plenum and runners to were it bolts onto the lower half of the 4ke mani (bit that holds injectors). As far as ECU, forget using the stock 4age one, although it could be done it deffinately would not be worth the hassle and I'd deare say it would be the more expensive and wouldn't run as well!! Best bet would be to get something like the Digi 2 Pro I had for sale earlier in the week. I got it for $200 off ebay and will do everything you need...under 20psi of boost that is. There is also a Digi 2 + which is fuel and ignition, still go for about the same price, maybe a little more. Think that about covers it....Jeez your luck I'm bored right now!! :lolcry:
  6. That was easy.... http://search.ebay.com.au/search/search.dl...&category0= Anybody else want one!
  7. :jamie: you wish! Really how good is his job!! Gets to flog the absolute shite out of the worlds best sports cars....and some crap ones too...and gets paid to do it. Most people would PAY for that job! :o I want one those "I am the Stig" t-shirts. :lolcry:
  8. Controls boost. Do a search on google and you find info easy. I can try an explain it, but I might just confuse you. :jamie: How long you got left on the warantee anyway?
  9. ".......some say his voice can only be heard by cats!...." Well that's obviously not true..but i wonder if you lick his chest, weather it really does taste like piccalilly! :jamie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VihIf1Fi-BM
  10. :jamie: how many piston are in the "breaks" in the yellow one!!! the calipers take up like half the disc!!
  11. I can.....saying he know those 2!!!! :jamie: :o :lolcry:
  12. Yeah no worries, I'll pm ya soon. Yeah if you can find some 7k flywheels off the townies our EFI came off, that'd be awesome. Only thing I'd like to check that if the 7k flywheel is the same diametre as a 4/5k one so it'll fit inside the bell housing. Reckon it would be though. KM20 lite one would be a prob, cause thats what the BH is from.
  13. Casey is right man, don't go gettn all up set at him!! :o I'll say this thread will probably last another day, maybe befor..... :jamie:
  14. HELL NO man, thats just there for test fitting etc at the mo. When you buy a clutch kit you get one anyway, so I will deffinately put a new one in. :jamie:
  15. So now with the clutch fork etc installed and the shifter in, the box is now ready to go into the car!!!!! :)
  16. After realising that the stock KM20 TOB and retainer actually fit over the W50 input spline like a glove.....I decided a bit more research into clutch packs was in order, as I was starting to assume that a KM20 liteace clutch pack was exactly what I needed with a corolla sized clutch and pessure plate (on KE flywheel) with W (actually G series) input spline!! So off to the local Burson I went this morning and this is what I found..... KE COROLLAS have a 180mm clutch plate with a 21.5mm/19T input spline. (21.5mm is the diametre of the input shaft, with 19 splines) RA40 celicas (which the W50 is from) are 225mm/29mm/21T So what I ideally need is: 180mm/29mm/21T KM LITEACES do indeed have the 29mm/21T input shaft I need, but the use a K flywheel with a 200mm clutch plate KR42R TOWNACES (7KE/7KC) also have a 29mm/21T shaft, but they use a K flywheel with a 215mm clutch plate SO, I am now on the search for a KM20 or KR42R flywheel, which I would assume will still bolt to a K motor the same, but have the bigger contact areas for the bigger clutch plates. If anybody is interested I priced clutches while I was there: KM20 Liteace. PBR kit - $185, RPM heavy duty kit - $225 KR42R townace. PBR kit - $185, RPM heavy duty kit - $230 Also just on tailshafts......I picked up an RA40 2 piece tail shaft on the week end. Haven't played with it yet, but I think it should be pretty straight forward to just split the uni joint and put the RA40 output spline onto a normal KE tailshaft. As the K40/50 and a W50 are exactly the same length, no shortening or lengthening will be necessary. :)
  17. KM20 liteace clutch fork, boot, TOB, and TOB retainer turned up yesty :) The clutch fork actually has a socket in the end of it and looks like it was actually for a hydraulic clutch not a cable (see pic), but this won't be a drama, I'll just mod the end of the cable to make it attach. Below you can see the boot and fork installed. Note the pivot points for the TOB retainer is now centred to the shaft! :D and with TOB and retainer installed.......
  18. to cut a long story short basically the story goes that the guy who started weber used to work for dellorto. He "borrowed" some desins for dellortos, went round the corner and started his own business called "weber" using plans for dellortos. So thats the reason why most dellortos (eg, DHLA) has a VERY SIMILAR cousin in the weber family (eg DCOE). :)
  19. :) :D :D :( :D :lolcry:
  20. Hey ancullen, if you're really interested in finding an answer to that question, do a little serach on google for some like "how did weber start" (yes, dellorto was around first!) and you might be surprised. If you can't find it, PM me. :)
  21. Oh, also seriously considering buying another ECU as the digi 2 I bought has a 20psi internal MAP sensor and you can't run an external!! :) :D So does anybosy want a microtech Digi 2 pro, mapped for FJ20 for $200 plus postage?? Thats what I paid off ebay.
  22. Haven't really done anything to the car lately. Still be playing around with EFI stuff and gear boxes. Got an ra40 tailshaft on the weekend (thanks James), just gotta put the yoke onto a ke55 tailshaft. Clutch fork should be here today. Think I will just get the $165 custom clutch plate for now and try and do the ra40 clutch and pressure plate to k flywheel at a later date. So the W50 is nearly ready to go in!!! Don't know how the cross member will line up, but this can wait until it actually in the car as I'm assuming to 2 of the 4 holes in the car will line up with 2 of the 4 bolts in the cross member! Speaking of gear boxes, check your PM's. :) I can get you another sandwich plate like mine for $80, but if you have Bursons in Perth, probably best just to get one off them to save postage cost from here. Deffinately can get you one though if you want mate. :D
  23. Yeah be resourful and chip in, going by the BIN price of $750, somebody can have the turbo kit for like $200, somebody have the engine for $200, $150 for the 5 speed, $100 for the diff, and that leave another $100 for the shell!! ;)
  24. yeah same bolt pattern and design, just wider (1,2 and 3 inch IIRC) for that fully sik "SLR" look!! ;)
  25. just tell him you want the engine, turbo kit, 5 speed and other "bits" and tell him he can keep the car for the agreed ebay price!! still worth it in my books! ....or swap him a car with cash!! ;)
