From everything I've heard, Teddy's KE70 will provide you with heaps more fun than Pinky ever could dream of. As John says, "most Navigators are frustrated Drivers", ie most navigators are drivers who can't afford to drive. I fully agree with this statement. Renewing your 2S licence is only a few paper forms away.

FYI, there are (I think) 2 touring road events in SEQ every year, there's the Coastal Challenge, and the Queensland Challenge (used to be known as Leyburn Challenge). Coastal Challenge is run at the same time as ARC, and is up the Sunshine Coast way. Navigation tends to be quite hard, and not so many speed stages. Queensland Challenge goes out west toward Warwick, Toowoomba etc. Navigation challenging, but easier than Coastal Challenge, and lots more speed stages. Joy and Fun :D

It's a touring road event. Exactly like a rally, except a lot more emphasis on the navigation. IE, in a rally (dirt as well as tarmac), you've got your transport stages which is where you go between the speed stages, and you have like navigation, but the navigation is piss easy and if you'd have to try to get lost. Then you have speed stages which is, well you know what a speed stage is. In a touring road event, you have the same, except the speed stages are usually a little shorter (or smaller), and the navigation is actually quite challenging. A lot more emphasis tends to be put on the navigation, maybe 80%, and 20% on speed, if that. So you have to do well in the navigation to put you into the top 10, and then you bump yourself up that couple more places in the speed. Because of the big emphasis on the navigation, and the fact that the special stages tend to be smaller, lower powered cars aren't has handicapped, and you can actually win the event in a shitbox if you can steer it reasonably well. It's a heap of fun for both the driver and the navigator. You need to have very good teamwork, and need to be on the ball for the entire day, it's absolutely awesome. I don't have any links at the moment, but if you need some pointers to the sort of navigation that's involved etc, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Alternatively, there is an Information Night on Wednesday at the BSCC clubrooms about the event, and they'll tell you everything you need to know and then you can decide if you want to do it or not. You'll need a 2S licence and if you split the costs it's $60 each for the whole day, which is pretty darn good.

To work properly, you need the pivot points of the steering arms to be the same (or very similar) to the lower control arms. If your steering rack body is too long, the steering arms will pivot differently to the lower control arms, and as a result your wheels won't stay pointing in the same direction as the wheel goes up and down. So yes, you can shorten the rack ends so that they physically fit, but that doesn't change the fact that the pivot points are all wrong. I believe this is called bump steer. And yes, my car has more of it than I'd like due to my longer lower control arms.

Not entirely true. You just can't have one you can adjust from the drivers seat. You can have one in your engine bay or whatever.

THANK YOU, I have my hopes up and am going for GOLD :D I hope: 1) I drive as well as I know (or think I know) I can 2) My navigator gets us from A-B-C in the correct manner, in the right amount of time 3) The car (in particular, the gearbox) holds together If 1, 2 and 3 happen, I think we stand a good chance of doing well in class :) We do have some stiff competition though, I hear that Peter Stamford is getting very very quick his his very very quick Escort... Everyone on Rollaclub should come along, it'll be good fun. Nick: No car? Navigate for Teddy. Or someone else, navigators are always in short supply and having been a navigator (my first event was me navigating for Craig in the Trueno), I can assure you it's just as much fun - just a different sort of fun. This event is the event I look forward to for the ENTIRE YEAR, for the past 3 years. Yes, it's that good. Last year introduced what would have to be one of the best pieces of road I've ever driven - Prince Henry Drive at Toowoomba. And we get to drive that again this year. Also, UQ campus at Gatton, awesome piece of road.

Ah, see, it wasn't the Sideline boys. I shall resist putting in any further comments.

If you're not careful with your brake selection putting discs on the back of your car will make your pedal feel even worse. This is due to disc brake calipers requiring a lot more fluid to work than the drum cylinders. Not to mention if you don't upgrade your front brakes at the same time, you'll most probably end up with too much braking power on the back (which is bad), or you'll need to put a brake bias adjuster valve in, and they aren't cheap.

Engine Mounts For A 4age Into A Ke30 Corolla?
demuire replied to blair_355's topic in Engine Conversions
That'll be cool. Mine is a standard crossmember, just with the stock mounts moved further apart. I thought of using the AE71 engine crossmember too, but it was too much work to get to fit. Much easier to just modify the stock one. -
That's kinda what I thought, but wanted confirmation :n: I guess I should try to put a cover or plate over the holes in my timing belt covers...

I think from memory the KE70 racks are too long (in the body too) so your steering angles go all out of whack. My engineer has done a R&P conversion on a KE10, I think the first rack they tried was out of an Esky (but it's the wrong way around), and the rack that's currently in the car is out of... I can't remember, might have been a Ford Meteor? I forget. This is in a KE10 with a very worked Beams 3SGE, it's a 3J car. Very cool.

No idea, maybe he was behaving himself and not revving it too hard. Any car can have a go, as long as the noise levels are kept below the threshold.

We should organise a Sideline full day driver training day! Would be easier to organise than a skidpan only day (due to the center cracking down etc).

Took the covers off last night just for fun and to see what it was like, and: This is true :n:

Reading around (on GarageDori actually) it would seem that my TPS is not working, so the computer thinks the throttle is open all the time. Or at least, someone there had the exact same problem and that was what was wrong...

Engine Mounts For A 4age Into A Ke30 Corolla?
demuire replied to blair_355's topic in Engine Conversions
Yours bolt up? Interesting. Mine bolted up, if I didn't use any rubber bits (as in, metal engine mounts to engine crossmember mounts). With the rubber bits it didn't it anymore, which is why I moved the mounts out further. -
From http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/8422/4age.htm: Opinions? Isn't the cover to keep dust and stuff off the cam belt etc? I would assume that if you drive offroad or on dirt etc (autocross, rally etc) then taking the belt covers off wouldn't be the best idea in the world, since you'd be more prone to getting shit on the belt? That said, I've got holes in my covers where the FWD engine mounts are supposed to stick out...

Am trying to check the timing on my 4AGE, and reading everywhere (including the 4AGE book), it says to set it at 10 degrees. No problem. The thing is, it also says to short out some terminals in the diagnostics plug, and apparently the idle will drop, set it to 10 degrees and unshort it, and it should rise up to at least 16 degrees. Mine... doesn't drop at all. Hmm, maybe my wiring isn't as perfect as I'd like them to be? Maybe might try setting it to 16 degrees and see what happens... Found this about the TRD Formula Atlantic 4AGE, and in it, it says: 28 degrees @ 2000RPM!!! That's... a lot of advance!

If you don't mind the drums, T18 diff is the way to go. You can get LSD centers for them too (for lots of $$$, but they are available). Lots of people want discs cause of the big myth that drums don't work. Lots of people want discs when they don't need discs. That said, I have discs and I lub them :n:

Engine Mounts For A 4age Into A Ke30 Corolla?
demuire replied to blair_355's topic in Engine Conversions
I used the standard engine mounts. Cut them off the stock location, move them further apart and reweld them back. I'm using AE86 rubber bits. -
I've been told that Ford rear brakes are a good thing to use for upgrading to rear disc brakes :n:
-
Well, he was asking for a bolt on diff with discs, so I told him like it is :n:
-
Heh, I've got bugger all space between my brakes and wheels too: Hoorah for big brakes :n: And my wheels don't fit under my fenders either :P David: Mmm, those rims sound good :P

T18 diff has no discs. But you can convert it to disc, again not bolt in. If you use a T18 diff you'll need to get the T18 tailshaft too.
