  1. There's a difference between what can be mixed in a lab and what mixes naturally in the real world. And, um, the oxygen atom hiding between each ethanol atom? What chemistry did you study at school? Ethanol is a compound, and thus has MOLECULES, not atoms. Also, your sentence doesn't make any sense - you say that a scientist managed to mix water and petrol by releasing an oxygen atom that hides in ethanol (which is not present in normal petrol or water) which stops ethanol? mixing with water or petrol? But ethanol already mixes perfectly with both water and petrol, and you need it to mix properly with petrol otherwise ethanol blended fuels just wouldn't work. And I'd like to see your evidence that polarity doesn't exist - it is a well established chemical concept.
  2. More that the general public is getting fed misleading information (as usual) by both government bodies and the media (on either side of the fence) - pure ethanol itself doesn't corrode the metals you find in a fuel system (neither does petrol), but it is the contaminants which get a free ride with the ethanol (water, halide ions like chloride/fluoride ions etc) that really affect the corrosion, and you're much more likely to get water contamination in ethanol than in petrol. Ethanol is highly miscible (it mixes well with water, unlike petrol which doesn't mix at all with water (and thus you get separation in storage which makes it much easier to decant)). Both ethanol and petrol are excellent solvents however. Remember too that good old fashioned water is corrosive too - pure water may be neutral, but you only need a mild amount of contamination and you get massive results. Seawater is only about a 3.5% contamination and it is incredibly corrosive to certain metals.
  3. When I still had the KE55 I ran 95 minimum in it, theory was that it was sold in Aus to run on leaded (which was something like 96 RON). The switch to unleaded 91 RON petrol in the 80s was regarded as one of the reasons for the big power drops in some performance cars of the time (the Cordia from memory lost about 20kw in the retune/respec from leaded to unleaded in the AB-AC facelift) Pretty much every place around here only sells E10 91 anyway, which I steer well clear of to begin with even for the 102 (which is capable of running 91 and E10). If the first E10 was uprated from 91 to 95 due to the ethanol content, how shitty must the current E10 fuel be pre-ethanol for it to be uprated to 91? No way is that stuff going near my fuel tank. Fortunately the Soarer is tuned for 98 minimum (and even then it only really seems happy on Ultimate) so it is never in danger of ever seeing 91, and 95 would be for emergencies only. $100+ to fill the tank is a right-royal pain though.
  4. No. Simple explanation is that since an intercooler is a heat exhanger, the output of the cooler will never be cooler than ambient air unless you have some kind of compressor driving the air through at high pressure. Since the electronic supercharger won't be generating much if any pressure (especially if you have no resistance in the system to provide back-pressure), all you are doing really is blowing air through a bunch of metal tubes - you might as well just blow the air straight at you.
  5. I know what does is when referring to turbos etc, I was referring to people who use the same spelling in sentences when trying to say "does" - ie "does it do hektic skidz bro?" or "does it cum with a monsta taco?"
  6. Maybe a list should be compiled of commonly mis-spelled terms and displayed front and centre for all the n00bs and lazy people to see: Wrong/Right Break/Brake Taco/Tacho Manuel/Manual Petal/Pedal does/Does Yous/no-real-word-translation Dun/Done Wiv/With Sik/Ugly Hektic/Ugly Skidz/spun-one-wheel-in-the-Maccas-carpark Bling/Ugly And so forth...
  7. And appropriately, installed in the 200B (which is quite possibly the source of the confusion)
  8. Is this a genuine FXZS? Or just your normal everyday AE92 with a FXZS tailgate (which is still the same, just with a different sticker).?
  9. At least it actually _is_ an Isuzu though, just rebadged as a Holden. Commodores only share the odd engine with a Chev (and kinda a chassis platform with the Camaro now), nowhere near a whole car though.
  10. But everyone who knows me knows that I'm not cool, and therefore not worthy enough for caps-lock...
  11. Because capslock is cruise-control for cool...
  12. With non-identical sequential setups, the first turbo is usually bypassed when the second one comes on song (there is a changeover period where both are running to allow the secondary turbo to spool up fully) like the supercharger in a twincharger system.
  13. I have no qualms with them bumping the older threads though - new threads just add clutter.
  14. I've lost count of the number of "3K-R" (it's actually called a 150E) threads, we don't need another one http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/17848-3kr/
  15. Get a mouse with a switchable freewheel scroll function, you'll be back at the top in half a second.
  16. There's no such thing as a JZA81 with a 1JZ - all JZA80/81s were 2JZ, either NA or twin-sequential-turbo.
  17. Well, I _did_ teach her how to drive manual... Anyhoo, ran the Soarer at last weekend's Toymods Dyno Day, unfortunately didn't quite live up to the 200kw claim but still quite respectable, conditions were far from perfect and there is still plenty of room to play with mod-wise and still keep it looking stockish Previous run at SAS in same tune but in much more favourable conditions :P
  18. And yet mid-coast NSW has been perfectly normal.....
  19. I find the best way to put seats in is to slide the rails fully forward and then "hook" the front of the rails over the chassis in place - put bolts in the holes but don't tighten them up fully. Then, slide the seat fully forward and line the rails up at the rear, then tighten the bolts all round. The key is to not have the weight of the seat over the area where you are doing up bolts, both for access and taking the pressure off the bolts and the rails which makes it easier to align.
  20. You're getting confused between the SOHC (one camshaft per bank) 3.0L 3VZE and the DOHC (two camshafts per bank) 3.4L 5VZFE (which came out in the Prado, Hilux, 4-Runner, Surf etc).
  21. Sorry, forgot it was a 7A. Still, the result would be basically the same (having a 7A-powered Corolla gives me a bit of experience here) in an ideal world. Had a mate with a slightly worked NA JZA80 too and it would still leave me for dead if he was serious.
  22. I highly doubt your 0-100 claim.....AE92 or the like with a 4AFE would be 9-10 seconds 0-100, NA JZA80 Supra is about 2-3 seconds faster (if launched properly that is). Then again, saying that you're as quick as an NA Supra is hardly a claim to fame, it is like saying you raced a non-turbo S13 or XR6...
  23. Fairly sure Top Fuelers are required by regulations to run a 14-71 blower, so it's not like there's a turbo option anyway even if it could handle the fuel.
  24. That's the problem though, they DON'T stuff a whole heap more air. Remember engines gulp down a heck of a lot of air even at idle - over 10L/second for a 2L car, and that gets much bigger very quickly (would probably be at least tripled in flow before you hit peak torque or power). Try this article on for size: Electric supercharger
  25. That's not an electric turbo, that's an electric supercharger (as it isn't driven by the exhaust), and 99% of them are absolute crocks of shit with no benefit whatsoever (other than the placebo effect), it has been proven time and time again that they are bairly more powerful than a PC fan, which is a good order of magnitude less than the airflow required to run your average car.
