  1. probably the cheapest thing would be to sell it and buy a twincam.
  2. it is one of those things on how much are you prepared to spend? you would be looking at over 2 grand for a 20v front cut, plus then you need an EFI fuel pump/tank. plus add labour on top of that to change it all over and rewire etc.
  3. it will cost a lot more to run a flat 12 with a 4age than a v8.
  4. rims like those should be reserved for ae92's on. RWD's should have dish. :ninja: the motor setup is cool though. what sort of compression ratio and boost are you looking at?
  5. i find (in general) that the worst drivers on the road, pick camry's as their weapon of choice. that surf in the 1st pic looks tough as. refreshing compared to all the lowrider sport trucks you see.
  6. i saw this on another forum. :ninja: ROFLcopter
  7. that would have hauled with the 202. :faq: what box was behind it?
  8. you don't have to pull it as such, more like drop the front of it.
  9. the double row timing chain will swap straight over. check the condition of everything, you may or may not need a new chain and tensioner (the double row chains last for ages). biggest pain is having to drop the sump to pull the timing cover. :faq: if you do that, consider adding a reground cam while you have it apart. i "think" you can pull the lifters without having to remove the head (depending on sludge buildup), with a 3/4k anyway. make sure you remove the little studs under the timing cover and replace with bolts.... will make it much easier if you ever pull the timing cover again, as you only need to drop the sump half as much. with your heads: is the 3k one a bigport, with the welschplug on the back? if it has the plate with 4 bolts on the back of it, it will be pretty much identical to a 4k head. either way, a 3k head will give a bit more compression on a 4k.
  10. make your clearances a bit tighter. if you look at the rockers where they push against the valve stems they wear. a feeler guage can't properly measure the gap. also the rocker bushes may be worn. you could always try your old 3k rocker shaft and rockers if they are in better nick. actually thinking about it, you are not getting timing chain noise are you? most 4k's only have single row chains. when they flog out bad they can rub on the inside of the timing cover amplifying the noise. a big screwdriver used as a stethoscope works well finding rattles on a k series. :faq:
  11. the joy of EFI. :faq:
  12. the part under the smaller plastic cover is the reluctor (or whatever these things use to trigger the signal), and the larger plastic cover is over the internal ignitor. i think it does matter which way they are wired up. i have the wiring connections written down around here somewhere... the 4k electronic dizzy's i have seen, run a seperate external ignitor attached to the coil.
  13. was the dizzy timing set up right?
  14. :monkey: be just like a new one then. i'll see about getting another engine during the week. the head would be good for spares. looks like it could come up alright with a cleanup and skim. cams, maybe not. heaps better design than any k series head. :)
  15. didn't really phase me seeing that. at least i know what the problem is now. i bought the car (for sfa) fully knowing that it had a seized engine. a 4age would bolt in. don't really feel like rooting around with a conversion atm. the car is only intended to be a cheap cruiser/commuter.
  16. yep, she's been sitting over 2 years. i could "possibly" knock the pistons out and rebore depending on how the crank looks. easiest to just get another motor for $300 and use that as a base, and this one for spares. depending on if i can remove the converter to flexplate bolts, i'm hoping i may be able to pull the motor leaving the box in.
  17. slightly fubar....
  18. rollaclub.com > Rollaclub in your Area > Australia and New Zealand > Tasmania / Hobart wow, tasmania has grown a bit of late. :monkey:
  19. why? they have their separate cruise. they don't own the ATD. :monkey:
  20. as for carbs being crap, well efi sucks to work on. you would think with the "superior technology" of efi, they could have made it a lot easier to work on. carbs are cheaper and easier to tune than efi. that is if you understand them. you can't really tune a factory efi computer now, to suit a radically modded engine. a set of dcoes or the like can be setup to run on a stock engine, through to something totally wild with a few screwdrivers and spanners and a handful of jets and chokes. really it comes down to what you want i guess....

    My Ke20

    not good :monkey:
  22. you probably could set it up rwd. biggest problem is the dizzy hangs out the back of the head.
  23. if you used the 4age head, you would need to change to 4age pistons. probably would need the crank and rods to, as i think they are uprated.
  24. nah, i think jamie is having a break from project cars. besides he is on the other side of australia atm. i'll keep it for me. :monkey: i have always liked the ke25 coupes. after the ke15/7's the ke25's are my next favourite corolla body style. Nick, Medicine_Man, the 4ages are good, but i think overated and way overdone. i have a few ideas floating around. see what eventuates.
  25. LOL, yea. what would be the best plan of attack when i get that far Nick, just pull the struts? my book says to remove the hubnuts and slide the driveshafts out, but i am not so sure.
