hmmm.. i might get some icecream. after that, who knows!

damn, i was beaten to the punch

well theres always bigger and better cams, head work, higher compression, lightening internals etc etc etc.. but since its a near stocker, id forget about 45mm webbers and delortos unless you plan to get a bit more serious. a 32/36 webber would give you small gains, and probably better economy (slightly) but be a bit restrictive if you decided to go further with the engine. twin 40's on the other hand give you a fair bit more flow if you go nuts with the engine. but are more costly to run/tune etc etc. gives a good induction roar though :jamie:

single/twin 40/45mm dcoe webbers/dlha? delortos or even a 32/36dvg webber on a stock modified manifold would give you more power over what you have now. how worked is the engine? are any mods planned for the future? this would determine what would be most suited on your car. for a 32/36 either a stock manifold, modified, or an adapter plate on the stock manifold should suffice. with the twin carbs, you should be able to get an off the shelf manifold from places like hardimans etc. not sure if you can get single sidedraft manfolds for the 3t new but possibly 2nd hand from somewhere.

yet (the old ones atleast) used MPH speedos

that drifting ke30 is an absolute pisser! i love it
-
yeah, must have been real drivable then.. it may have been drivable with no boost, but look what happens when it does. just for interests sake, whats he done with the new ute? a TT gen version of his ol 308?

if its a ke25-ae71 would a 2t/2tg be allowed for PRC?

actually it was my trade school teachers that used to tell us that the balancing shafts were to dampen out excessive crankshaft harmonics.. thats also where we were playing with the astrons. i can't remember the site i was at, but it pretty much mimicked what hiro said
-
i woulda loved to come but its a tad short notice, I'm super busy this weekend unfortunately. ive bookmarked the site so i can keep up with the dates though. theres no way in hell I'm missing the next test n tune day!
-
been doing a bit of reading, and once again i stand corrected on the harmonics issue.. however I'm am standing my ground on the astron and dunnydore V6 balancing shafts. i have seen with my own eyes on astrons how well, smooth and long they run with no balancing shafts when rebalanced internally. and how well they don't PRE balancing. so the shaft may be there for other reasons, but they DO help out internal balancing, or a lack there of.. maybe as a side effect. who knows, i don't care what wikpedia or theat site i read says to the contrary. spoke to one of the guys i know with a mild balanced v6 (sans shaft) and he said it ran like a dream before he sold it 6 months ago, and 16000ish km later. just out of curiosity.. hiro could you tell me some of the V8s that use balancing shafts?
-
your right, being a Vee engine they are naturally unbalanced.. but so is every over Vee engine. but most manufacturers go to the trouble of balancing their internals somewhat (atleast to a tolerance anyways).. hence they don't need balancing shafts. astron internals when balanced don't need balancing shafts. I'm going to assume it would be the same with the dunnydore V6. (note, 2nd hand info coming) ive heard of quite a few mild VN V6 buildups, of which the internals were balanced, and the shaft was given the arse. and last time i heard (a few years now) they were running as smooth as when they had the shaft. i stand corrected about the engine capacities though :D

holden bought the rights off nissan and actually made the engine in taiwan from what I'm told. and the new toyota V6 is a 4.0l..

if its only a hairline crack keaking lightly, chemiweld can most of the time fix it. also ground pepper works. be advised though these methods are only good for TEMPORARY fixes. and use it as the bottles describe. if it doesnt work the first time, resist the temptation to throw in a 2nd bottle. ive pulled heads off engines that have been fixed with excessive chemiweld, and the water transfer ports between the head and block were completely sealed up, and the engine cooked. the chemiweld set rock hard so bad that i had to use a hammer and screwdriver to chip away at it!
-
I'm dissapointed, he didnt stripe the engine

thery arent bad for a 40year old engine, thats right.. they wernt anything special back then either! so why did the dumb arses at holden drop the best engine they ever had (RB30) for that stinker of an engine. they make great burnouts in light cars. they are so heavy, in a small car (eg gemi, rolla etc) the tail of the car is nearly off the ground.. and they make good torque down low. you wanna know what makes the engine half decent in stock form?? its the ECU. thats its saving grace. the heads arent all that bad for that engine, the bottom end is the shitter though. rods tend to fail at around 5500-6000 depending on the engine, and they had to run a balancing shaft to save money so they didnt have to balance the internals. :D then you talk about eddie tassones car. hardly a buick V6 now is it?? actually how much of that engine is genuine holden? you have to expect that at those sorts of power levels though. have you read up about that engine and how it makes its power delivery? hardly drivable me thinks.that car is a race/grenade car only if you want a nice bigish capacity engine that will make decent grunt, how about a rover/leyland all alloy V8? they will EASILY make the grunt you crave, without upsetting the chassis so much, piece of pie to get parts for.. and you your a GM lover, technically they are GM ish. it was a buick designed engine that they dropped as they couldnt produce the engine cost effectively. ill get off my soapbox now.. :)

yeehar I'm the first to post since the cruise! great day had by all. shame on you vicco's that didnt come.. -
my KE25 race car has an ae86 rack in it (i didnt buildit though) it gets some bump steer, but only really noticable on huge ruts on the race track, so it would be good for the street i think. turning circle and directness is awesome! it has: modified KE25 crossmember AE86 rack ta22 struts and steering arms ke 35 tie rod ends ae 101 RH rack mount and bush KE laser LH rack mount and bush AE75? steering column and shafts I'm guessing KE25 arms and has balljoint adaptors. having said that it tram tracks REALLY bad at roughly 100kmh on a straight road, gotta be careful. hopefully a wheel alignment and some control arm/strut top adjustments will fix that

gday, ill be there for sure. i can supply some drinks too -
their favorite tricks are over quoting, hoping you'll know nothing and just say go ahead Or giving a proper quote, u give them the go ahead.. then they ring you up 1/2 way through the job and say 'oh your car needs this and that or this' its going to cost eleventybillion dollars and we can't align you car till its done

thanks! if all goes to plan i might even have some movies of the event for the meeting point for calder, i vote for bell st maccas so we can show up those pos VLs/skylines/geminis  jk! bbq ftw :)
