  1. Yep, how heavy the car is usually has a lot to do with it. For example, Cusco coilovers for an AE86 are 6kg/mm fronts (~340lbs) For an S13 Silvia/180 they are 7kg front (~400lb) For a JZX100 Chaser they're a monstrous 16kg/mm (~900lb) Off the topic a bit, I was playing around with some lovely Kei Office coilovers the other day. You can actually screw the shock body up and down inside the strut. I'd say its mainly used so if it's lowered a fair bit you could wind it so it doesn't bottom out the shock. Cool stuff.
  2. http://www.somethingawful.com - Pretty funny stuff http://www.ziptied.com - Drift orientated, and they don't put up with rabble. http://www.rollaclub.com - I like Corollas, what can I say. http://www.club4ag.com - 90% drivel, but oftentheres some neat pics or video's being hosted. http://www.ausrotary.com - fairly self-explanitary I think. http://www.performanceforums.com http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp - parts http://forum.rscnet.org/ - RaceSimCentral forums, mods for F1CC, Nascar2003, Live for Speed and all that. Keeps the geek in me happy. Grim: hah, yeh haven't been online really in a while. Busy busy busy. Got enough time up my sleeve now though.
  3. Dem: Goddamn your car looks cool. Whats this 3TG racer? 2TG head on a 3T? or 3TGTE with the snail ripped off it? Details people.
  4. More like Crystal "hot" Body Yokohama. Nice car, friggen expensive bit of kit though. Yep thats right, 20inches wide. You could lose things in that dish....

Typical JDM goodness.. when i brought my sil80 in, the front panels/headlights/grill/bumper were all held on by zipties, no bolts to be found.....

Dem: You could look at it as more of a ghetto weight saving technique...
  7. FJ24's were twin carbed, and were used in the Nissan S11 Silvias. Of course, they also happen to be quite rare, built in limited numbers for homolagation. Iiirc they were somewhere over the 220hp mark. I'm sure theres plenty others.... oops, didn't realize I was performing thread necromancy

:P Very broke at the moment, I'll see what cash I can find, but it looks unlikely I'll be competing. Skidpan + my computer blew up equals a penniless JapTastic. Regardless I'll be there at the very least to yell OI GRIM, YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY! and such.
  9. I'd say it'd be Delco, the fuel injected Camiras had them as well. I've looked at the MegaSquirt breifly....I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to electrical stuff. So its not an option for me. Also how hard is it to tune one of those things, getting cheap EFI is one thing, but if its going to take hours of experimentation on a dyno, the cost can quickly add up. I think a safer route would possibly be buying a 2nd hand fuel only unit ie: microtech/EMS/or early F series Haltechs.
  10. Great vid. Rob, very impressive. The K motor sounds as if its pulling a bazillion rpms but looks happy enough doing it :| Chalk up another person who'd get incredibly lost.
  11. Seeing as theres a bit of a motorkhana craze in here atm, these video's seem appropriate. Its in Japan and run by some USAF guys deployed over there, usual cones in a carpark deal. Good mix of cars from 86's to Datto 1200s to EVO's and Starlets. Each vid is about 2-3megs so fairly dialup friendly. This one is probably one of my faves. Good driving coupled with a lovely sounding Trueno and Barrel rims. :| http://c-racing.web.infoseek.co.jp/20030119/ae86_a3.wmv For the rest of them... http://c-racing.web.infoseek.co.jp/index2.html
  12. I've done grass motorkhana's before, and they were quite fun. Although there was a few courses that involved reversing. High speed reverse + huge arse ra28 C pillars led to many markers being run over. That and remembering where the hell you were supposed to be going.... How intricate is the typical course at QR? It seems my attention span is rather lacking. :/
  13. Quite what?
  14. 4TGTE into the 28, there was one for sale at SSS several years ago, I still regret the fact I didn't have the money. 13Bt in the rx4, and another 13b bridge in the rx3, this time with injection though. The rest I'm fairly happy with. although I think a 3sgte would be great in the sil80 just for "its different" reasons, but I haven't the cash to justify it.
  15. If you were looking at water-air, I'd suggest using an RS Liberty unit. Nice enough size, and if you can, grab the pumps and whatnot too. Falcon airconditioning cores make good heat exchangers too, and take up hardly any room in front of the radiator.
  16. Ha, I personally doubt its for performance reasons. They probably just like the "slammed" look, but front wheels still need clearance to turn, so the front sits higher. There are certain cars that do handle better with a slight rake down to the rear. The s1-3 RX7's for example are suggested to run a slightly lower ride height at the rear, mainly to keep roll centres at an acceptable level.
  17. This is a segment from Option 2 Video #32. Covers the buildup of Akira Iida's 86. Modded 20V, suspension, firewall bashing, engine bay fires, the lot. Also takes it for a bit of a strapping with and against old mate Orido once it's complete. http://auto.joins.com/upboard/pds/pdst/200...2_AE86-S-01.wmv (right-click save as) Its around 90mb. Hope you enjoy.

  19. I've always thought painting a car in blackboard paint would be a fun idea.
  20. Ha, it took me a while to work out what the hell was going on there... One thing I don't understand is why you would tap into the rocker cover to use as an oil drain...to me its not a sensible solution. Dumping frothy oil into the sump seems more ideal than dumping it into the head where you've got a lot more pressure going on. Perhaps this is why that engine runs such a large breather on top of the rocker cover.
  21. Dem: you should somehow do a holden 5 stud conversion...there countless HQ's and whatnot with wideass Jellybeans :P
  22. Hey Nitephyre, How is the wagon coming along? If you wanted a few more idea's than theres plenty of nice looking *E7*'s on this site...url is in the picture. Probably doesn't suit that well with the "pimpy" theme you have in mind, but oh well. Interestingly enough I haven't managed to find any wagons with the te27/240zg style flares. Disappointing.
  23. After Jamboree now? Goddam..how hard is it to drive up mt coottha with some bits of cow in the boot? Call me hungry..but considering the idea was thought up in early june it doesn't have to take this long surely? Meh, in anycase I'll come along to put names to faces and vice-versa. So Medicine Man, you've got at least one wanker coming.... :P
  24. Its a 4TGTE, 2.1 version of the 3TGTE. Umm that was obviously being tested on engine dyno, unsure which version it is, as they used it in the Lemans, and IMSA cars as well as the TA63 Celica's for GroupB rallying. Given the crazy amount of piping going everywhere, I'd say its IMSA which means that it'd be pumping somewhere around 600hp. Ahh the mid 80's...when most racing classes were going crazy with their turbo motors. Any more sexy motor goodness.. an 18RG with a 16 valve head. Only ever made for race use, referred to as a 151E motor.
