I have heard that 10 degrees BTDC is best for 4K engines, so I don't see what would be different in the 5K when it comes to timing. And I believe 8 degrees BTDC is a factory setting for both the 3K and 4K

Swap meet? Hell yes. Pity it's in Queanbeyan

Happy birthday by the way

I have driven the V8's at Calder Park. It's great fun. To start with, you get to take it to 4000rpm in 4th and if your instructor thinks your good enough, you'll get to take it to 5000rpm. The cars are highly modified Commodores and Monaros running the full race body kits, approx 400hp 5.0L V8's (weak I know, but they've got to last a lot longer than the race engines), supercar suspension, supercar brakes, full cage, 5 point harness, but still have a 5 stud pattern on the V8 style wheels and the stock (SS) dash. Don't know if the V8's in Sydney are the same or not, but I have heard that they have the Falcon as well as Commodores. v8race for Sydney or fastrackracing for Melbourne/Adelaide

ABOUT TIME!!! You've been saying your going to try to kill something out there

They're from the US aren't they? I've seen a set of these go into a 4AGE recently to obtain 11:1 compression ratio and about 160kw. I reckon they are sexy as

Ah, it says in his profile that he's from NSW. The real Mexicans are from Victoria. I know, i get hounded for it all the time (originally from Bendigo, now in Canberra)

Um......the show and shine?

It's not just the length you have to worry about, it's the height of the barra as well. The Ford 6 is a lot taller than the old "K". You may have to cut a huge hole in the bonnet

Hi and welcome. Look forward to seeing you the meetings. I, for one, and looking for a hook up on more of a spray then just paint, cos my project car still looks a little sad

Could always ask around the bowls clubs?

Are you sure then exhaust manifold is an original item? Not a stuffed up aftermarket?

YAY, Rollaclub is back. I was starting to convert to toysnobs just to get my fix. That was a scary couple of days.

Found all this on Toysnobs http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/old...rollaDrift1.jpg "In a move that might worry AE86 enthusiasts, Toyota will consider targeting the BMW 1 Series with a wagon version of its FR Compact Sports Car. This wagon variation of its compact FR sports theme is being considered along with the aforementioned coupe, and even a sedan. Three variations of the ‘Spiritual AE86 Replacement' are being considered, with a coupe being the most likely to be chosen in a move that could help breathe life back into Toyota's sports car line up. The wagon variation offers the most practicality and would compete directly with the BMW 1 Series and (to a lesser extent) Subaru Impreza, however Toyota is well aware of the popularity a compact FR coupe model would have over a wagon and will definitely take this into account. A sedan, rather like a smaller version of the superseded Toyota Altezza would be more practical than the coupe, although this outcome is the least likely at this stage. Since our last report, a 1.8L engine is now being considered along with a top grade 2.0L engine incorporating Toyota's new ‘Valvetronic' valve control technology which will put to rest some concern whether the previously mentioned 1.5L engine could provide enough power to warrant a sports car classification. This is not to say a 1.5L engine will not be offered, as Subaru already offer the same capacity engine in its current Impreza line up. There is still little in the way of reliable information surrounding the power plant of the Toyota FR compact sports car but we can safely assume that the new engine will have some form of Valvetronic control, and no forced induction of any kind. Toyota product planners are well aware of the appeal a proper AE86 replacement has amongst the younger generation of buyers, as this new FR sports car is being designed primarily for that section of the market. It is a little surprising though that it seems now Toyota is backpedalling slightly, putting more emphasis on competing with rival models rather than reopening a niche segment with a direct AE86 successor in the true sense. Just as we reported earlier, it is now apparent after much research being carried out by Toyota that the FR compact sports car will indeed be sold at or slightly above 1,500,000 yen! We mentioned before that this was a virtual impossibility, but Toyota plans to use an ‘unprecedented amount' of parts already used in cars in its current line up, therefore keeping production costs at a minimum. How this will affect the final outcome of the FR compact sports car is anyone's guess at the moment, but we will have the news right here for you as it appears. A 2+2 front engine, rear wheel drive sports car is planned to be the sprititual successor to the AE86 Toyota Sprinter Trueno/Corolla Levin, unbelievably at a price cheaper than the discontinued Toyota MR-S… Toyota enthusiasts should be happy with the latest news from the Japanese magazine ‘Best Car', with news that Toyota is bringing back the soul of the now famous AE86 Trueno/Levin twins in an all new compact 2+2 sports coupe. It's no suprise that the rumoured pricing target of 1,500,000 yen is almost too cheap to believe, but this is in fact what Toyota are aiming for. The idea behind the project is to create ‘a car that appeals to young people' with a price that they would be able to afford (the ramifications of this we'll discuss later). This same idea harks back to the early 1980's when the original AE85 series Corollas were introduced, where relatively cheap and reliable cars were sold with just enough interior niceties to keep buyers happy, and the price to a minimum. There are no Toyotas in the RWD compact sports category since the MR-S was discontinued in April this year, and the 2+2 configuration should give the new compact sprts car a wider appeal than the strictly 2 seater MR-S. The target selling price of 1,500,000 yen does seem almost too good to be true, and the basic model may actually increase to around 1,800,000 - 2,000,000 yen by the time it's released, which is still reasonable if the car's specifications are adequate enough. But this is where some people might start worrying… It's been hinted that the ‘New AE86′ will be powered by a 1500cc four cylinder engine producing 120ps/6000rpm and 14.8kgm/3800rpm coupled to a traditional 5 speed manual transmission. This may seem like a half hearted effort by Toyota, but the total weight of the car is expected to be around 1000kg which would be quite close, even too close, to the original AE86's specification. A simple theme will give the car much of the soul of the last RWD Trueno/Levin and should keep costs down below the 2,000,000 yen mark. The artist's rendition shown here includes black plastic bumpers much like the AE86 models had, with clean lines and minimal overhangs which, if it's close to the mark, would almost guarantee a sales success." Like I said, I found all this on a thread on Toymods, but the person who posted it didn't say where he got the story from

Well I had a bit of a fiddle today to see if I could get it started without jump starting it. Turns out it was a dodgy earth from the battery. All due to me buying an earth cable thats about 2-inches longer than the one that came off it, so I bolted to another hole, not thinking that it would have paint in it from the factory (as this would have never been used before). So I bolted it to the original hole, and it started after about 5 seconds of turning the key. Hillclimb is now one step closer

Hire? I think a better term would be "enslave"

Hmm, the chance to thrash the crap out of someone else's car. Sounds good to me. Might have to make my way out to give a hand with fixing the car. Where is it, your place or in Hume? And when on Thursdays?
-
If your waiting for me to get out there before you do, you may have to wait a couple of months. I still have a few things on the car to do, and raise money for for things like license and membership fees etc. But I will definitely be out there soon

Now I wanna see Brett out there, bit I wouldn't be surprised if I get out there before he does :n:

Took it for a run on the weekend. Runs really well. Still need to iron out a couple of small things like mixture and it's ability to start on it's own (or more to point, not being able to), but now I have a bit of advice on that last one (thanks Thomo) so I should be OK. Still needs a tacho dash as I have no real idea what I'm revving it to, but going by the speed and noise, I'm going to guess about 8500. And its so much low end torque (for a K engine :n:). I can't wait until I get this onto the hillclimb. And I'll probably get before Trendact

I believe that if you go for the shorter extension housing (KE55) you will also have to get a tailshaft to match. I think the extension that you have would be the one out of the KE70

Extremely Important Safety Information for All Drivers!!! BASIC RULES FOR DRIVING IN CANBERRA 1. Indicators will give away your next move. A real Canberra driver never uses them. 2. Under no circumstances should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, or somebody else will fill in that space, putting you in an even more dangerous situation. 3. The faster you drive through a red light, the less chance you have of getting hit. 4. Braking is to be done as hard and as late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to stretch your legs. 5. Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as suggestions and apparently not enforceable in the metro area during rush hour. 6. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tyre. 7. Everybody thinks their vehicle is better than yours, especially 4WD drivers. 8. Learn to swerve abruptly. Canberra is the home of High-Speed Slalom Driving thanks to the Urban services, which puts potholes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes, not forgetting the 'Test your skill' chicanes in suburbs. 9. It is traditional in Canberra to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light changes. 10. Never take a green light at face value. Always look right and left before proceeding. 11. Remember that the goal of every Canberra driver is to get there first, by whatever means necessary. 12. Heavy fog and rain are no reasons to change any of the previously listed rules. It is an acceptable practice to increase your speed in comparison to the rate of rain fall, i.e.: the harder it rains, the faster you go. 13. There is a commonly held belief in Canberra that high-speed tailgating in heavy traffic reduces petrol consumption as you get sucked along in the slipstream of the car in front. 14. It's OK to cut off fully loaded semi-trailers, road trains and buses because, hell - they have brakes. 15. While using Canberra roundabouts, particularly two lane roundabouts, ENSURE that you are in the left lane to turn right, or the right to turn left, hell lets keep those people in those other lanes on their toes. 16. If you are an Action bus driver, you must win at all costs, getting to your destination prior to any other driver is life and death. Never worry about your passengers bouncing round in the back like tennis balls, hell it's a cheap form of theme park, in fact Canberra's very own. 17. Canberra Cabs, see rule 16, except you are now qualifying for the GMC 400. 18. Pedestrian crossings... What are they? 19. Public servants have no road rules. 20. If you are a cyclist, remember YOU ARE INVINCIBLE, you are stronger than ANY vehicle travelling at speed, MAKE SURE you take the whole lane for yourself, and at night NEVER use lights, remember They Will See You! Thank you for taking the time to read this public service announcement

The 4 speed has a 4th gear ratio of 1.00:1 as does the 5 speed. Most (not all) gearboxes has a 4th gear ratio of 1.00:1 or direct and 5th and/or 6th are overdrives. And as for the old 3 speeds, 3rd will direct (1.00:1). As for a list of ratios for the K series boxes, I will find a link for you soon. I have seen them Edit:- It's in the FAQ

Why has it been cancelled? I was looking forward to it.
