  1. Ive replaced heads on these cars Its pretty obvious to know if a heads badly corroded as you described, when i replaced my old head it could collapse by a poke with a screwdriver around head nut which was pretty shonky Its good that you know how to use feeler gauges to checked a warped head but for peace of mind just pay the extra $40 and get the head resurfaced by a professional, its saves alot of time and money in the future and gives you someone to blame In some cases it may be cheaper to buy a whole new engine then going about replacing and repairing one old and bad engine Let us know what happens
  2. I know I'm going to sound retarded but whatever How about doing what my mates Nissan Patrol does and use 2 batteries if you're fussy about one small battery
  3. stop it, you're making me want a station wagon or panel van again

^^^ sorry for long reply This was ages ago when i was barely scratching the surface of rollas so i didn't think much of it it was slightly dinged, no drivers side window and no fuel gauge, but it was factory dual carb. came from around port adelaide i think so rust would have been an issue looking back on it i should've bought it aha
  5. I made a thread asking about stock wheel sizes for a ke30. Theres a good chance a 30 would share sizes with a 35
  6. The paint code on the car would no longer match the actual paint on the car because it has faded (yes it can be the wrong white) You will need to get the paint colour matched by a specialist for it to look uniform
  7. Cool, keep us posted about your choice but i suggest you wait for other forum members to chime in with what they think before you take my word -- they might have more information
  8. Just saying, the celica looks much better, you wont be dissapointed
  9. Corollas are definitely basic, and are pretty much as simple as cars go. However this comment reflects the cars function also, as its slow, very little luxury, small and underpowered for highway driving. But its got a 5 speed manual so you might get away with it, its definitely clean for a 1000 dollar car and incredibly fuel economic not to mention its a bullet proof, incredibly reliable engines Celicas are fantastic sports cars and are pretty advanced for the mid 80's, making them comfortable to drive daily. Since its the more advanced car it will not be as simple as the corolla but its still pretty primitive compared to newer cars. The suspension on this car is also far superior to the corolla because it doesn't go barbaric medieval with its leaf springs and joins the civillised world with coils. With the car you're looking at all the hardwork has been done such as body work and (I'm assuming) engine leaving yourself free to enjoy modding On that, both have a strong modding community, but the celica is the better platform to work on. There isn't much you can do to beef up a 4k. They're both easy to work on , especially in comparison to a turbo liberty (DOHC, Boxer engine [2 heads, 2 sets of everything], fuel injection, turbo etc) They're very good platforms to learn about cars, i did the same thing when i sold my 91 Liberty for a Corolla but if it were up to me i would've went for the Celica
  10. Well I'm going to get 165's on the front and put the 175's on the back, it should be aight
  11. That looks like a perfect ride, everything has been done tastefully and you can easily see the work that has been done to it. The front end looks a bit low however.. You can buy ke30 4 door that will have the same ride 'feel' for way cheaper than a coupe. But the coupe will always be worth more in the future.
  12. Did they use that profile for the rear wheels?if so I'm amazed
  13. Old datsuns had really thin tyres too, i wonder why they came out with cheesecutter wheels like they did
  14. Sometimes i feel like i ask too many questions, but they keep coming up in my head -_- what were the stock tyre sizes on the 30's? going out to swap my rear mags for just stockies and was wandering if the 165/70/r14 175/70/r13 (just checked) used on the front were also used on the back
  15. ^^^ daaaaamn makes me want to modify my grill
  16. Would you say it would be worthwhile to bring these two home? I might bring them home, pressure wash them and flog them off on gumtree for a quick few hundred in as-is condition
  17. Thats another thing i was curious about, alot of the wrecking corollas in my area have a different dash to mine aswell I would like to know more about those aswell Mines like this one But most others i see are like this
  18. Alright, tracked down a different ke30 grill in my area for $20 What do you guys think? Its not in properly because the original grill had clips to hold it in at the bottom, but this grill needs screws Why were there different styles of grills, does it mean anything depending on what grill it is?
  19. Looking at this newish 2011 Corolla noticed something a little off... ...Its shifter is 3 kilometres high! whats the deal here?
  20. Heres some pictures of the blue one Its in not better shape, and has the roof cut out and being used as a shooting car My primary turn off from these cars is the fact I'm going to have to hire a trailer and spend a few days getting the pair home
  21. OK, ive just came home from inspecting them and theyre in pretty beat up shape They might be too far past it, but what did i expect from cars that were free, I'm just glad i was offered :D Heres some of the white one, I'm more interested in this one than the blue one personally
  22. Here are some photos mentioned earlier The man who took the photos took pretty bad ones but its all i got to go by
  23. Hi again I'm looking at being given a pair of 1st generation Honda Civic 3 door The man who is giving them to me simply wants them gone off of his farm property approximately 100 km away from where i live Pictures will come shortly, but i do not know if they would be a worthwhile investment/if i should bother with them can't find much information about them, would they be a desirable car or not? Need advice, what should i do? Thanks
  24. I made a thread about rebuilding the top end and thus rebuilding the cooling system The water pump and thermostat were replaced during the rebuild and the engine block and head were thoroughly checked and cleared of obstructions. The radiator has been serviced, flushed, patched and tested to be operational and it still overheated!. It must be the radiator at this stage i cannot see what else it could be
  25. G'day guys On December 21st i drove my Corolla to a coast to country ride day where we all brought our vintage cars and had a cruise to a live band. Needless to say, 99% of these cars were 60's muscle cars Valiants, Kingswoods, Chevies, Dodges, Plymouths, Triumphs and XY-XC Falcon 500's. It was great and my Ke30 was a real contrast to the day where others started at 4 litre 6 cylinders, mine was a 1200 4 cylinder Anyway, on the cruise it was 37 degrees in Port Adelaide and i was pushing my car to 90 km/h with me and my dad in the car, keeping up with the bigger Chargers on the highway. However, it got to a point where the temperature started rising and wouldn't go down and thats when i decided to diverge from the crowd and let my car cool down. I thought i cracked a head for sure on the highway, so i let it cool down for a few hours and checked my oil. Didn't crack a head thankfully and i can't find other damage so i want to say i got luck. At the end of the day its a small car that i pushed too hard on a hot day and nothing more. The temperature for me usually stays at the halfway point, but on the day it jutted just below the white line almost redlining. A quick search of the internet has an array of aluminium 4 core radiators for sale seemingly only available in Manual configuration. I was talking to a few mates and they recommended a aluminium 4 core radiator for they think it would solve my underpowered stock radiator that really isn't suited for Australian climates So my question is can i get a 4 core aluminium radiator for an automatic ke30 or has anyone been successful in using an automatic radiator from a different model car in their Corollas
