How about if the grill was painted white to match the car?
-
Well you couldn't even tell if its authentic because the engine has been replaced. Who knows if he kept the original gearbox and things like the centre console or steering wheel are definitely not there. This seller is joking, you wouldn't even be able to tell if it was real or not just from the pictures, only if you were to physically inspect the shell I wouldn't even bother with it and 6 grand is a lot of money could buy a freaking muscle car for that, or totally pimp out a rolla

Hi Was just wondering if my ke30 would look good if the grill was taken off and painted completely black Anybody else done this? Wanted to know what you guys think
-
don't know what you mean Jamie, On google images it seems pretty common on a standard corolla like mine However, the man who did my radiator repair did mention it was serviced/replaced at one point in its life. Might be a ke30 radiator, might not be. It was a badly rusted 2 piece cover One last question, do i check my trans fluid while its idling or when the engine isn't running? All there is to do now is replace the extractor to muffler gasket, change the carburettor gasket and clean the engine bay up. (maybe move the battery to the boot to clean up the bay while I'm at it)

About the head, i've decided to keep it. Just incase i need some valve parts down the track i can always rob it from the old head As it stands, ready for work! brought it into the shed because it was getting hot out The head went on perfectly, had to loosen the valve train to fit the pushrods but it fit in the end Also my gasket kit came with new valve seals, so those were installed before the head went on Polished rocker cover, took a day of scrubbing to get it to shine like it does The engine being put back together More engine, this time the radiator hoses connected and the air filter put on Heres a video of it running, sounds sweet! And finally the old welsh plugs, this picture was taken out by the beach to end the day. These were used as skipping stones :P: Thanks again for all the help!

OK sorry for the lack of updates but I'm here now I put the new head in to get resurfaced and what do ya know, it was warped and hilly as the Himalayas! so for $35 she was as good as new. The welsh plugs were taken out and painstakingly replaced with brass ones (never need to replace those again) Followed the tightening sequence, adjusted the rocker cover to what i was told, filled it with crap oil, drained it and filled it with good oil, got proper coolant got the proper gaskets together, everything we took out was cleaned and painted The radiator works fine, the rocker cover was given a good treatment of polish. The Toyota 'TEQ" logo was painted with my mums fingernail polish (thanks mum!) and rubbed back to reveal the lettering. However, i did find that the heater pipe was leaking like mad, and in Australia we're going into summer so we disconnected that and reconnected it to do a loop from the back of the head and into the water pump. The old water pump was taken off and a new one put on, thermostat housing was re done. Filled her up and took her for a spin and noticed it over heating a little bit. Checked the timing and it was out. We noticed marks on the engine reading "10 | 0" and figured it should line up with '0' but found the engine runs better and at lower temperature at '10' Finally, where should the temperature be on the temp gauge? and how do i fill up on transmission fluids? Pictures will come in the next post Thanks so much for your help and guidance, this car is running as good as she came out!

Either go digital for accuracy Or if you want thrifty, just get 3 or 4 speedos and average them all in your brain

Ke10 - Everything Needed To Go From 1K To 4K.
Dzhoel replied to thefallen1's topic in General Mechanical
If you're thrifty and wait for a good deal something might come up I saw a 4k motor+transmission for $80 once, and another time a 3k for $50 (!!!!!) Waste your time looking for one not your money -
Being complemented on driving a gutless 70's economy car Looks like people appreciate looks more than actual usability

Found a ke36 wagon for sale for $800 at Angle Vale, Adelaide Yellow, awesome nic too. Saw a guy roll up to it, ring up and buy it on the spot. He went to the petrol station, filled her up and went straight home down the road where he honked it like mad when he got home (from excitment) I still see it parked infront of his house. Its pretty cool Saw a Ke20 coupe at Angle Vale too filling up. The girl who works at the Angle Vale servo drives a blue ke30 Along the highway i saw a ke38 pass by Saw a ke50 liftback for sale not too long ago for 1200 (bad shape, but definitely still driveable and roadworthy) I own a KE 30 and jive in that area too. Thinking about it there is alot of old school corollas in my area

You got to be kidding. I bought the car in my dp for 500 and you're asking 3000 for a rust bucket EDIT: a better question for this thread is how much venetian blinds should be worth :P
-
This, big time. For a year i wanted a ke30. Alot came up, but not for the right money. Eventually, i found that 1 ke30 in decent nik for only 500 where others i found in shittier condition they tried to sell off for the 3000 dollar mark. Be patient, a good deal will come up. Also, they were a dime a dozen cars in the time. Just treat em like that and you can see what they're really worth. They're the most basic cars ever, the only luxury you got was a radio and a clock unlike with newer cars

Ke10 - Everything Needed To Go From 1K To 4K.
Dzhoel replied to thefallen1's topic in General Mechanical
I don't know if you could call the 4k 'zippy' but i can only imagine it being faster than a 2k for sure To me, having the bigger engine would increase its value to other people. Like 67 Rolla said, keep the original motor. Now post pictures of your car -
Nice and sexy fron end. Probably the best ive ever seen. I love that bumperless look as well. I wanted to switch my grill from this To this Anyone know what this style is called? Specifically the blue badge?

Got the radiator done today, only costed me $80 too which was a bargain. With that money he tested it, flushed it, cleaned it, patched it and even painted it An air filter and a genuine toyota oil filter came in the post, but no water pump yet. What happens if the stocking disintegrates? i'd imagine i would be in heaps of strife then. Also, i'll pop down to the shop and get some epoxy for patching, but i do have knead-it on hand, can i use that? I will probably end up selling the entire rooted head, start bidding at $30 and see how it goes The cars at a mates place while its being fixed up, i can get some work done+pictures next weekend About swapping the valve train over; Is this needed? couldn't i adjust the tappets to suit the new valve train or is that out of the question?

Thanks for the reply Banjo, as a side question, would you happen to know what the tappet adjustments are for the exhaust and intake? Once i get everything together, a good hard rinse and repeat is in order for the oil and the cooling fluids. No more straight water for this motor! Ill keep the old head, it'll look good on the shelf

OK here goes Milky rocker cover anyone? (surprisingly enough, the previous owner replaced the 3k-c rocker cover and put a 4k one on) Heres just what it looked like with its cover off so you have an idea of where i was with it Got the head off, Looks fine (just dirty) until you get closer than 1km to it Heres more proof of its crap factor, next to a head nut i gave it a light poke with a screwdriver and it just collapsed. Probably a collapsed water jacket This is the valves (sorry for bad pic, a better one will come soon) You might actually see some blocked water jackets here The water jacket was heaps corroded! like decayed tooth it just fell apart A picture of the cylinder block before it was cleaned up Heres another blockage, however, checking the head gasket, it may of supposed to be like that. Well it got unblocked anyway Found some pitting formed around a water jacket on the engine block. don't know what to think about this but cleaned it up. Still some work to do on the block but ran out of sandpaper Some pictures of the head, old and new. Put together so you have an idea of just how filthy it is (plus a better photo of the bad head) So again, waiting on the water pump and radiator to be fixed (forgot to take photos of that part >.<) Ultimtately, i actually don't think the head was cracked, but there were massive holes and most likely the head was warped. Corrosion was starting to form but i got that sorted now. What do you guys reckon?

All these replies, i feel loved! Me and a mate did some head work today, took the head off and what a shocker. Although not cracked, it was corroded like buggery full of blocked passageways. I ripped the radiator out, I'm just going to get this one fixed, i don't see the point in buying a new radiator if this one can be remade like new The thermostat was corroded shut in the original head and the one in the new head had the guts taken out of it. I'm still waiting on that water pump, but as soon as i get the radiator and water pump done i can put all back together. Its costing me alot, I'm only a student working at a pizza bar, but the car was cheap ($500) and its only costed me an extra $400 so far so I'm still motivated Took plenty of pictures while i was at it too, all on my iphone, so i need to take them off there first. Next post will be pictures. A manual conversion would be awesome but ive got enough to work on to keep me occupied. Too keep you guys posted, heres some more pictures of the car

Wow, thanks for the replies guys! A really supportive community, especially Jamie, i love it! Ill upload some pictures of the head once i get it off, which might be within the next week or so if things go to plan At the moment, ive taken the grill and protective plate off ready for the radiator to be removed. Still waiting on the water pump. Good news to hear about the bottom end, alot of my mates told me to cut my losses and sell the car (lol no) And Banjo, I'm located in Adelaide, South Australia. The km's on the clock are 88,xxx but the clock only goes to five places unfortunately, its an automatic so its slow; really slow. but I'm always looking for a good deal on a 4 or 5 speed manual to chuck in but for now I'm focusing on the motor Thanks so much for the help!

Hi all Bought a Ke30 from a guy who kept the car in completely original condition, sold it to me for cheap, with the cleanest interior and the straightest body ive ever seen However, judging from the cracked head and milky oil, he probably never looked under the bonnet :bash: Ive bought a new cylinder head, gasket set and in hindsight I'm planning for a radiator recoil and new water pump because the head might of cracked due to cooling issues So a few questions first, should i buy a new radiator or get mine fixed? And I'm getting a mechanically competent friend to take a look at replacing the head, is there anything i should look out for/tips? Also, i heard from a mate that theres no point rebuilding the head if the bottom end is going to be left intact because the head will just crack again, what can i do to the bottom end that provides me with 100% certainty that the engine wont blow up again? Could i please get help? Thank you!
