Mate this is looking awesome! Can't wait to see this on a cruise. I think these wheels suit this sedan even more than they did the old hatch :blinks:

Yeh i'm pretty wrapped about not having to pull it apart. Sometimes unless you have someone else with you the only way to learn is to stuff it up! Got the car home today for the first time, so here are some pics. Also i got a new steering wheel and gearnob for it today. Just waiting on the boss kit and then i'll put some decent interior shots up.

That's exactly what i used to find the TDC Felix. Got a couple of them at the garage of different lengths. Turns out i don't have to rebuild it anymore as after a long day of work i f%^ed up the position of one of the cam gears myself! (thus valve was bottoming out on the piston) This is all fixed now and the car has perfect valve timing now. She drives great. Hopefully some pics to come this week. Next is to do a wheel alignment and get some good feel into the brake pedal.

Just read through your whole thread. Really impressed with what you are doing and i say keep going hard at it! Your car has the perfect stance too IMO.

Keep going mate as it's looking heaps better with every update! Loving the photoshopped pic :hmm:

19914afc - You aren't allowed engine conversions in Vic either, but this one was passed as an engine change by vic roads very much similar as how my other rolla was passed with a 7k. Evan the mark on the the crank pulley is out, thus meaning when you set it on top dead center it actually isn't top dead center. Meaning when you set the camshafts in place they will be way out. See below, More bad news After measuring an actual top dead center and then trying to line up the camshaft in place the bottom chain has locked up (i think something has come off down there). Which requires the motor to be disassembled. YAY! Might be able to get stuck into it next week. So watch this space for updates and photos of the rebuild.

Got the carbies back on last night. much smoother but it still didn't go. Turns out after much head scratching that the top dead center mark on the bottom pulley is out! Thus roughly retarding my valve timing by about 20 degrees. Now for the fun part to begin as i hope i can adjust the camshaft positions without stripping down the whole motor. Let the fun continue!

I'm on my p's

More progress guys! All the suspension gear is now in as well as a whiteline swaybar  Looks really good under the car now as i have cleaned up all the bolts, painted the caster rod brackets and caster rods and polished up some bits and pieces. Also got the carbies back today as well as a complete VRS kit. Peter from Thornbury Carburettors completely went through them start to finish and was great to deal with. If all goes well the car should be on the road tomorrow! :P

Saw a feature on the front page of The Age this morning. Decent turnout it seems, and some good publicity to boot. How was it guys? -
Great work Doogs. They look fantastic now. Can't wait to see it all painted and installed :)

Gavclassic, Yet Another Low Kilometer Find !

Great score Gav, I also vote for some venetians. Keeping this one for a while i hope? -
Progress report from yesterday Removed carbies after testing volume output of fuel pump (all good). Found the intake manifold gasket broken! The jetting in the carbies was not appropriate for the application. Sent them down to Thornbury Carburettors to be overhauled and fitted with the correct jets/needles. Also the boot lid is in the process of getting resprayed inside and out :) That is all for the moment and i hope to have it on the road by this weekend. Matt.

Thanks mate. The interior on this car is immaculate so there hasn't been much need to touch the interior side of things. I'll post some proper pics of the interior up once the car is up,running and had a proper detail.

It was a great day. Thanks to all of you that attended and those whose organised the group to be together (you know who you are :)). So good to see so many awesome cars out, especially some old school Toyota machinery!
-
Don't tell me these things! I've got to detail mine tonight.

So guys, today in one last effort to get it going for picnic at hanging rock tomorrow, the old man and I tried our best to tune this thing. After making marginal improvement from run-on balancing and adjusting the mixtures the car was still hesitating when accelerating from low revs. To solve this will unfortunately involve removal of the twin webers and go over them from start to finish. Here are some more progress shots from today. Freshly painted radiator support back on. You can also see the fresh radiator and hoses. New wheel cylinders, also included a good bleed all round. Thought i'd show you the front calipers polished by the original owner! All the suspension gear that is yet to go in. Mmmm nolathane...
-
Hey guys. Tried to get the 2-door all tuned so that i could take it along but it wasn't to be. So just look for my gold car Darren. See you all tomorrow, I can't wait!

Ace job Tedster. At the start of part one i was thinking mine doesn't rev this high or hard :) But alas it was another big block K! Great job i thoroughly enjoyed the vids. Matt.
-
Thanks mate. Yes i bought the car from the previous owner with the wheel and tyre package that it has. However the original owner actually had them fitted with a 6.5inch outer rim. Most specialist wheel repair/restoring joints should be able to do it for you. Best of luck.

Is that a record? Sacked from the club while not even being a member
-
Haha i had no clue either! Today i scored majorly! At the tafe library i found a genuine Toyota T-series engine manual. Pretty much photocopied everything on the 2T-G motor  EDIT Here is a shot i took on the weekend

Oh shit! I knew i missed something tonight. Next meeting has been put onto the calendar on my wall now! Sorry Adam.
-
Thanks Doogs i'm trying to get it half presentable. Oh and thanks for that info on the shift locker Si. I had no idea about that and it did appear to be broken off too. Got my radiator back today. Looks real nice and had a brass core fitted.

Got some more progress for everyone today. Pretty straitforward. Got water pump, thermostat housing and rocker cover back on today. Here are some happy snaps. All in all it was a day of decent progress.
