Searching For Something Rare...
KE30_KE35_KE55 replied to ruffneck119's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Yes i have a picture of the paint tin next to a 50 cent coin so you can see the correct size, I have seen similar size tins with more modern printing in early 90's toyotas. -
the dizzy also has a centrifical advance, advancing the spark by turning the rotor button with the use of a pair of centrifical weights. You should be able to turn the rotor button about 20 degrees freely and it should spring back. if it is tight lift off rotor button and oil the felt pad.

to eliminate carby iceing as the problem i would get a roll of aliminium foil as used in the kitchen. wrap it around the carby under the exhaust manifold don't short out any wires, don't leave it like it as it could start burning pipes ect just test drive and see if it makes a difference.

if you are looking for a car to take to the track buy a rolla with a 4age factory fitted, they have the whole package larger driveshafts , stronger components ect. I had a Ae82 I could not keep standard cv joints or driveshafts in it, i had to upgrade to GE drive line costing a pack.

It could be a costly exersize to send back if they don't suit your application, nothing worse than a conversion where you can't run a air cleaner or the bonnet rubs. some times it is just better to make mounts to suit your gearbox, sump or bonnet clearance.

welcome to rollaclub Robyn nice ke35. What driveline are You running?

The Electronic Ignition module (in black) converts pulses from the dizzy hall genarator into a signal to fire the coil. It is located under the tin cover at the base of the distributer

could you fill my shed? this is half of my shed how many rollas could i fit inside? 1000sq meters

some imported 4k engines have finer pitch threads to bolt the belhousing to the engine just check your old ones screw in the new 4k before fitting. if they are different just go to a bolt shop like universal fastners and get some high tensile fine threads the same length.
-
it may be a weaker spark than the point system. best off to use a high output 12 volt coil found on any 82-88 wrecked sigma, vh vk commodore, falcon or a ae82 here is the wiring diagram.

In SA a fog light is fine for use in fog conditions if set to shine a beam along the road, sometimes spot lights/ driving lights are just fitted in the bumper . if lights shine above a certin height they are deemed to be spotlights and must wired up to only come on with high beam, a vehicle could be defected for this.

that seems like a big job, replace hoses first from outlet pipe in engine bay to fuel pump, if they are even slightly cracked they will suck air. the pick up in the tank has a huge filter screen unlikely it would be blocked

Ae71 Steering Rack - Internal Bushes?
KE30_KE35_KE55 replied to slapper's topic in General Mechanical
yes they have a bush on the long end. a spring loaded yoke that pushes the rack in mesh with the pinion on the input end, the spring may be broken or sagged that usually causes noises -
if this problem happens in cold weather check hot air induction system from air cleaner to exhaust manifold. just put a piece of heat tube from exhaust to the air cleaner inlet, my 4a use to do exactly the same thing.

Run electronic ignition coils on full 12 volt eg bypass balist resistor Pin 3 & Pin 7 both go to the dizzy - electronic type ( 3 goes to negative side 7 to pisitive side ) Pin 15 - Positive side of Coil Pin 16 - Negative side of Coil Unmarked Pin was earth

1 swap over spark plug with a good cylinder and test again that the same cylinder is still dead. 2 Check compresion using a compresion gauge avaliable at any parts store 3 Check compresions of cylinders either side. all should be even and above 130 psi if compresion is ok check valve clearances, bent pushrods and manifold leaks.

Starting A Car That Ahsnt Been Run In A While
KE30_KE35_KE55 replied to DearmanKE's topic in General Mechanical
all of the above is good advise, I would also change the oil again after say 500km . oil is cheap oil left for 2 years will settle out in the sump ect you wont get it clean with a cold drain. when the car is used stop, start bumps ect it will disturb the settled muck and mix with your new oil. -
You got Yourself a absolute Bargin welcome.

Wow Nice piston. I wonder if pre ignition will be a problem, will you use standard octane fuel ?
-
3.8 v6 holden makes a very nice conversion adaptor plates avaliable off the shelf.
-
check the fuel filter first . fuel pump could also be faulty a weak or broken valve in the fuel pump.

Urgent: Input Shaft Bearing Puller
KE30_KE35_KE55 replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
grease method will get that outer race out too, i have used the method on many aplications, just pack with grease well. Find a shaft that fits well even an old socket and extension will do if you have nothing else. keep packing with grease repeat the operation rubber grease works the best. -
if you already have a 4af it would be easyer to simply fit that. I only did the mods in the car as everything on my 4a was already up to race spec and I only had the weekend to do the swap as it was my daily driver. I found a exhaust manifold that fitted with my original AE82 gearbox. A 4af bottom end will handle all the trashing you can give it drivehafts and trans axle will break before the engine if assembled right.

I fitted a 4AFC head to my STD 4A in the vehicle, simply drop the sump, I fitted 4AFe pistons I left the injectors and rail inplace and bolted on a cenrepoint manifold to suite carby. I went that way simply so i could set up efi later if i wanted to. I also used the 4afc exhaust manifold with the o2 sensor. in a AE82 only changes are radiator hoses, exhaust, and a few simple wire extensions ect. I never connected EFI as i already had trouble keeping drivehifts intact with the carby.
