1 Jack up each wheel and check that the brakes are not draging. 2 Check the front wheel bearings are not to tight. 3 Check tyre presures. 4 Take the car on a controlled drive a nice flat drive out in the country for 70km doing about 80-90kmp/h no fast accelaration. I just bought a holden 1 ton ute that was doing 23 litres per 100km with some work I now have it down to 16 litres per 100km around town, 9 litres per 100km in a controled drive as above. as comercial vehicles don't need to state fuel usage on the yellow sticker it is also not covered by warranty. I do wish I bought A new Hilux now.

I bought a cheap ae82 seca with a 4A from a car yard about 10 years ago. They thought the engine was shagged. I herd it and thought it may throw a rod before i got home in it. about a hour after i bought it i found a broken exhaust recirulation butterfly, I removed the butterfly and did about 100000km before fitting a worked 4AFC. you might want to check that.

The panhard rod does not come with a s/h diff. some wreckers cut them off with the oxy, they don't usually bend unless the vehicle is slid hard into a gutter. This usually also bends the rim and sometimes also bends the axle between the bearing and the drive flange.
-
You should be able to tell the factory bends, just make sure its not like a banana. also check mounting on the chassis they seem to bend there too.

Did the new electronic ignition help ? I looked at a car the other day that was hard to start & spark breaking down after about 10 min, The owner had recently fitted a sports coil the brackert was loose so he rapped about 20 turns of insulation tape around the coil. the secondary on earth side had to jump 4mm between the coil to earth before it jumped the plug gap. I made a metel spacer and fitted run a dream after that.
-
jack the car up and inspect the panard rod for, 1 straigtness 2 Bush condition 3 mounting on chassis

a few cars from a scrap yard, I bought the KE55 it runs and drives it has a lot of rust, the red Ae82 seca is about to get crushed. -
take the wire off the sender at the tank, put a test lamp or globe to a good earth put the sender wire to the otherside see if the gauge works. if it works check tank eath. if it does not work check wire from gauge to tank.

a modified standard carby can give great performance , very simple just a slight twink with progresion and the secondarys. and the economy will be great, no flat spots a great daily driver but on the weekends you can have some fun too!! :locked:
-
having to larger Venturi will also cause a flat spot too. a lot of people just don't understand carbys have jets idle, progresion, accelerate and power, with the right combination of jets idle and general driving can be the same economical smooth ride, but on full power a little peak can be achieved without flooding the engine with gas all the time.

should have lots of torque. I wonder how a toyota/ holden Trimatic would go behind a 7k. in a KE30, I could build a stronger trans if they use the same housing as the v8 trimatic.

Differences Between Ke55 And Ke70 Gearbox Internals
KE30_KE35_KE55 replied to KE30_KE35_KE55's topic in General Mechanical
Sweet!! Thanks Everyone the rear extension housing can be changed in like 5 minutes. I wonder if I can just swap extention housings over so my shifter is in the same spot.? -
Any Heatsink compound will do try Tandy, Dick Smith, Force or even the local computer shop may have some. new Bosch ignition modules come with a small pack of heat sink compound. I use dow corning silicone heat sink comnpoud and use as pictured.

Hi Everyone I have 2 ke 55 5 speed gearboxs with stripped countershaft gears I would like to rebuild. I had a look in FAQ and it seems KE55 & KE70 5 speeds have the same gear ratios. does anyone Know if a KE70 Countershaft is the same as KE55.? Maybe someone has a parts book out there. Thanks Darren
-
It will be ok as long as you did not wipe the back clean , what I was referering to is a white heat sink compound that must be put on the back of the module to cool it. it looks like white grease. you can even reuse the old stuff just as long as its there. same heatsink compound is also used between computer CPU and Fans.

Overheating + Heater Not Working
KE30_KE35_KE55 replied to rjenman's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Are You sure the thermostat is not installed upside down i have seen it done before. -
running a lot of air presure in your tyres like 60psi will make it slide nice too but the centre tread will be bald in about a week, 7k would be a nice conversion too.
-
IF you remove the Electronic ignition module don't forget to put some heatsink compound on the back as they will burn out without it.
